My Shadow
by Robert Louis Stevenson
I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.
The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow--
Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an india-rubber ball,
And he sometimes goes so little that there's none of him at all.
He hasn't got a notion of how children ought to play,
And can only make a fool of me in every sort of way.
He stays so close behind me, he's a coward you can see;
I'd think shame to stick to nursie as that shadow sticks to me!
One morning, very early, before the Sun was up,
I rose and found the shining dew on every buttercup;
But my lazy little shadow, like an arrant sleepy-head,
Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.
Quote by Carl Jung
It is a frightening thought that man also has a shadow side to him, consisting not just of little weaknesses- and foibles, but of a positively demonic dynamism. The individual seldom knows anything of this; to him, as an individual, it is incredible that he should ever in any circumstances go beyond himself. But let these harmless creatures form a mass, and there emerges a raging monster; and each individual is only one tiny cell in the monster's body, so that for better or worse he must accompany it on its bloody rampages and even assist it to the utmost. Having a dark suspicion of these grim possibilities, man turns a blind eye to the shadow-side of human nature. Blindly he strives against the salutary dogma of original sin, which is yet so prodigiously true. Yes, he even hesitates to admit the conflict of which he is so painfully aware.

Took this angeled "shadow-play" shot while out on my morning run, only later did I noticed the written message over my shoulder.
I asked my 6th grade dance class to play around in the spot-lights, so I could take picture for DPS's "shadow" assignment. I tried to clone the marks off of the floor. I'm not sure how else I could fix the floor...

I liked the shadows in the bathroom and took this photo. I then added the face of a girl, morphed with the face of a cat, for effect. Three photo composition, all photos taken by me.
This photo may have been taken in the mid 1980's near my house in Chester, PA I remember seeing the shadows and hurrying to take the photo before they stretched any further.
ok, i am being fresh (meant in the 'flippant' way, not the 'new and innovative' way); but her name IS shadow, although we usually call her LBC or the 'little black cat'.

As photographers, sometimes we want to direct the action, be right in the middle of it, but we also try and blend into the shadows, to not be seen, while we capture a moment.
The shadow patterns of this tree on the duckweed covered lake caught my eye. Normally wouldn't see them this defined on the water but the illuminated green duckweed made for a great background.

I loved the way the tree outside the picture area threw its shadow on the wall and was then completed by the foliage growing over the top of the wall. The curving lines inset into the pavement were a bonus.
My friend Bridget and I went out adventuring one day and ended up among some abandoned ruins. I mean, anyone that knows us should not be surprised, we both love abandoned spaces. Anyway, that day I had my camera set up to capture in black, white, and green. This turned out to be the perfect setting for that adventure as it gives hints of color here and there. While exploring I found this round structure with the stark shadow of another structure being cast on it. So I had to capture it the best that I could.
This image was taken in JPG using only the settings in my camera, there was no post-processing or editing.
