Around 1200 soldiers marched from the Esplanade down Knuckey St and onto Cavenagh street as part of this year's Welcome Home Parade.
Mrs Greville of Polesden Lacey was a society hostess on the grand scale: the King and his mistress, foreign royalty, the aristocracy and the leading lights in the arts and mere celebrities were all welcomed. Standards therefore had to be high. The female staff were chosen for their uniform height and their good looks apparently. So what criteria applied to the male staff?

This stall sold whole and half roast chickens as well as chicken rolls. I didn't try it but it looked and smelt good.
