The Church of Saint Mary is an Anglican parish church serving the town of Whitby in North Yorkshire England. It was founded around 1110, although its interior dates chiefly from the late 18th century. The church was designated a Grade I listed building on 23 February 1954. It is situated on the town's east cliff, overlooking the mouth of the River Esk overlooking the town, close to the ruins of Whitby Abbey. Church Steps, a flight of 199 steps lead up the hill to the church from the streets below. The church graveyard is used as a setting in Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula.

Serving the City is a sculptural artwork that embellishes the entry and exit gates of the San Francisco Fire Department, Station 49. The art imagery speaks to the history and visual vernacular of our Emergency Medical Services, fire suppression, and the communities they serve.

The artwork is comprised of overlapping stainless steel and painted steel cut-outs referencing emblems, insignia, and badges associated with emergency medical response. They also illustrate general Fire Department operations, as well as San Francisco's neighborhoods and landmarks.

Serving the City aims to communicate the Fire Department’s mission “to protect the lives and property of the people of San Francisco.” To this end, the artwork’s heraldic elements suggest strength, courage, and continuous commitment to this work.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today welcomed 32 faculty and staff from Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Hispanic-Serving School Districts around the nation to the 2024 class of E. Kika De La Garza (EKDLG) Fellows.

The EKDLG Fellows came to Washington, D.C. to learn how USDA services and programs can benefit them, their students, and their communities. This effort is part of USDA’s commitment to advance equity in professional development opportunities and build a more diverse pipeline into public service and the agricultural sector. “This year’s class of fellows is the largest so far and a testament of the program’s success,” said Dr. Lisa R. Ramírez, director of USDA’s Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement.

The E. Kika De La Garza Fellows Program is part of USDA’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions National Program, which is committed to supporting a 21st century agricultural workforce through professional development, workforce development and exposure to opportunities for faculty, staff and students. Through this program, USDA also partners with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities to provide high quality internship experiences, placing more than 3,000 interns since 1994. This program demonstrates USDA’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to the Department’s programs, services and resources by underserved groups. (USDA photo by Tom Witham)
