Prince Edward and Sophie Countess of Wessex, the son and daughter-in-law of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, visited Manchester City Centre earlier today (Thursday 15 September 2022).
The Royal couple viewed the Book of Condolence in Central Library, floral tributes in St Anne’s Square and the Book of Condolence in Manchester Cathedral - where they also lit a candle.
GMP officers and horses provided a visible and covert presence across the city centre to ensure the safety of the Royals and members of the public.
Our officers were honoured to police the Royal visit in Manchester City Centre.
One officer said: “For me serving the crown is momentous because I come from a family that has served in the forces. I am an ex-soldier myself and my daughter is currently in the army. So, for me to be here today serving the crown is special, historic and means a lot, not just from a professional perspective but also a personal one too.”
Whilst another added: “We are here today for the Royal visit, we are immensely proud to serve the people of Greater Manchester. It has been a very special day for ourselves and our police horses to interact with members of the public during this time.”
Corporal Paul Davis, a Canadian soldier from Bridgewater, N.S., serving with the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (2 PPCLI) in Kandahar, as part of Task Force Afghanistan, was killed today (March 2) when the light armoured vehicle (LAV III) he was travelling in collided with a civilian taxi and then rolled over after hitting a ditch on the side of the road. Six other CF members and one civilian were injured in the accident that occurred about seven kilometres west of Kandahar around 9:50 a.m. local time (12:20 a.m. EST) on March 2.
The soldiers were conducting a routine patrol when their LAV III rolled over. They were all members of Bravo Company from 2 PPCLI stationed in Shilo, Man.
Canada’s mission in Afghanistan is part of our contribution to the international campaign to help bring stability and security to the people of Afghanistan. The overarching goal is to help the Afghan people achieve peace by preventing their nation from relapsing into a failed state that gives terrorist and terrorist organizations a safe haven.
Cpl Davis is the ninth Canadian soldier to lose his life in Afghanistan. Mr. Glyn Berry, a political officer from Foreign Affairs Canada also lost his life while serving in Afghanistan.

La mission du Canada en Afghanistan s'inscrit dans le cadre de la participation du Canada à la campagne internationale contre le terrorisme et vise à aider à apporter la stabilité et la sécurité à la population afghane. On Wednesday, April 29 at 7pm, the National Kidney Foundation Serving the Delaware Valley hosted its 3rd Annual High Heels Kick Out Kidney Disease Fashion Event. The Foundation teamed up with The Shops at Liberty Place in Philadelphia to host an exclusive night of fun, shopping, networking and education at its facility.
High Heels Kick Out Kidney Disease guests enjoyed an evening of great local food and drink, raffles, make-overs from various cosmetic vendors like Philadelphia’s own Ursula Augustine of Ursula's About PHace and a sneak peek of the latest fashions by students of The Art Institute of Philadelphia. Various celebrities were at the fashion event supporting the Foundation’s cause such as event emcee Marilyn Russell of 95.7 BEN FM; fashion show emcee Kerri-Lee Halkett of Fox 29; Lorraine Ranalli, author of Gravy Wars; and others.
Throughout the evening, the Foundation offered information about kidney disease and what women can do to prevent it. The Foundation honored Mary Fox Donnelly, a Philadelphia-area business owner and kidney transplant recipient, and joined her in celebrating the 30th anniversary of her life-saving kidney transplant.

This summer, I was quite lucky. My friend Debra worked out at the marina restaurant and ended up serving two gentlemen who she heard talking about the old Glasgow Air Force Base. They wanted to renovate it and were especially interesting in revamping several of the abandoned buildings and homes. They needed a photographer for before and after shots. Debra immediately gave me their number and in the end, five of us ended up getting to explore the old movie theatre and hospital, including my friend Brittany who is starting to get into photography. It was a fantastic and spooky experience and we loved every moment. And Brittany's husband Todd held himself in check enough to only jump out and scare us once :) Unfortunately it seems that the plans for renovating this place fell through, but at least my friends and I got our chance to explore it!
Home of the Adventurous is probably the perfect slogan for this place. When I begin to write something down about this place I honestly don't know where to begin. So I guess I should start by saying that almost everything you will be seeing in these photos is abandoned. This is a former cold war air force base that was basically left to rot by the government after less than 10 years of use. There are a few families that live in the condos still, but I would say 90 or more percent of these homes are empty. The schools are decaying, as is the hospital and all other buildings except those owned by Boeing. Boeing owns the runway and uses it for test purposes. And instead of moving their employees into the empty condos they set up manufactured homes for them.
The weather in Saint Marie is especially brutal, terribly hot dry summers and fierce awful winters. Saint Marie is like an island of condos and abandoned buildings in a great sea of prairie--nothing else is around it for miles and miles. It is true desolation. And when you drive the broken streets and see the condos with those big windows looking at you like empty eyes it is like you are in another world entirely. Then you see the signs set up by Boeing saying not to go any further and that essentially they are watching you--it's like something from a movie. I encourage you to look up other people's photos of Saint Marie and the things you will see will haunt you. Operating tables and beds left up in the hospital. Robes left hanging in the church. Everyone just walked away one day and this is what remains. If you are especially adventurous you can move here--the condos are a steal. A beautiful one fully furnished just sold for 30,000 dollars and there are others for much less than that.

A strange survivor is this huge sign, proclaiming Lowestoft Central on what is now Lowestoft's only station - once there was Lowestoft North as well, serving a direct line to Yarmouth. June 11 2014. Middleton Press have a good selection of books detailing the lines in this area.

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (Chinese: 西安咸阳国际机场) (IATA: XIY, ICAO: ZLXY) is the main airport serving Xi'an, capital of China's Shaanxi Province. Covering an area of 5 square kilometres (1.9 sq mi), it is the largest airport in China's northwest. The airport was the hub for China Northwest Airlines until the company was merged into China Eastern Airlines in 2002. Xi'an Airport is also the hub for Joy Air and a focus city for Hainan Airlines.
In 2012, the airport handled 23,420,654 passengers, making it the busiest airport in northwest China and the 8th busiest nationwide. Xi'an Xianyang International Airport was also the nation's 14th busiest airport in terms of cargo traffic and the 9th busiest airport by traffic movements.
History
Before Xianyang Airport was built, Xi'an was served by Xi'an Xiguan Airport. In 1984, the State Council of China and the Central Military Commission proposed to build a large civil airport on the site of Xianyang's airfield. Phase 1 of the airport commenced construction on August 1987, and was finished and opened on September 1, 1991. Xi'an Xiguan Airport was closed at the same time.nPhase 2 started in August 2000, and was finished on September 16, 2003. Another 7.592-billion-yuan project is scheduled to be completed by 2020.
Terminal 3 and Second Runway
Terminal 3 and the second runway were opened on May 3, 2012, increasing the airport's capacity to more than 33 million passengers a year. The new terminal alone can handle 22 million passengers a year, twice as many as the other two terminals combined. Airlines that moved into the new terminal are China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and Shanghai Airlines. The second runway is 3,800 meters long and is large enough to handle the Airbus 380.

Millinocket is serving as the secondary platform for Pacific Partnership, led by an expeditionary command element from the Navy’s 30th Naval Construction Regiment (30 NCR) from Port Hueneme, Calif. Now in its 10th iteration, Pacific Partnership is the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia Pacific region. While training for crisis conditions, Pacific Partnership, missions have provided medical care to approximately 270,000 patients and veterinary service to more than 38,000 animals. Additionally, Pacific Partnership has provided critical infrastructure development to host nations through the completion of more than 180 engineering products.
