On Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 7pm, the National Kidney Foundation Serving the Delaware Valley hosted its 3rd Annual High Heels Kick Out Kidney Disease Fashion Event. The Foundation teamed up with The Shops at Liberty Place in Philadelphia to host an exclusive night of fun, shopping, networking and education at its facility.
High Heels Kick Out Kidney Disease guests enjoyed an evening of great local food and drink, raffles, make-overs from various cosmetic vendors like Philadelphia’s own Ursula Augustine of Ursula's About PHace and a sneak peek of the latest fashions by students of The Art Institute of Philadelphia. Various celebrities were at the fashion event supporting the Foundation’s cause such as event emcee Marilyn Russell of 95.7 BEN FM; fashion show emcee Kerri-Lee Halkett of Fox 29; Lorraine Ranalli, author of Gravy Wars; and others.
Throughout the evening, the Foundation offered information about kidney disease and what women can do to prevent it. The Foundation honored Mary Fox Donnelly, a Philadelphia-area business owner and kidney transplant recipient, and joined her in celebrating the 30th anniversary of her life-saving kidney transplant.
Event sponsors and partners included 95.7 BEN FM; AroundMainLine.com, Diversified Specialty Institute; eWomen Network; Furia Rubel Communications, Jones Apparel Group, MainLineScene.com, PhillyScene.com, Phlare Magazine, NutriSystem, Roche, Wyeth and others. Beer Mac and Cheese Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pound DeLallo macaroni noodles
12 ounce bottle beer (I used an IPA.)
8 ounces cream cheese
1 pound shredded cheddar, off the block (not pre-shredded)
1 cup crumbled bacon
Directions:
Place a large pot of salted water on the stove to boil. Once boiling, cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.Meanwhile, pour a bottle of beer in a second large pot. (Choose a light crisp beer that you like to drink.) Place the pot over high heat, and add the cream cheese. As the beer starts to simmer, break the cream cheese into pieces with a whisk and whisk into the beer. Add the shredded cheddar. Warm and whisk until completely smooth.Once the pasta is cooked and drained, pour it into the cheese sauce. Reduce the heat to low, then stir and cook another 3 minutes to thicken. Salt and pepper to taste.To serve, scoop the beer mac and cheese into bowls and sprinkle with crumbled bacon.
NOTE: If you let the mac and cheese sit too long and it firms up, place back over heat and stir in a little water to loosen the sauce.
A Huanghai-built, type DD6129S31 12m (39 ft.) standard-floor diesel bus serving Line 64 of Division 6.
BPT's fleet enrolls several different versions of DD6129S31: a Bafangda standard-floor with manual transmission, a red-and-grey standard-floor with Allison and a red-and-grey step-entry with Allison. The standard-floor AT is the only one of its kind among the red-and-grey rigid buses introduced after the 2005 grand invitation to bids. Sharing the same Cummins ISBe 220 31 5.9L 220PS (162kW, 217hp) diesel engine, Allison T270R gearbox and leaf-spring suspension, Jinghua BK6125DK and King Long XMQ6122G (step-entry version) are all step-entry buses, leaving the first-batch DD6129S31 the only 12m standard-floor model among its peers. Later in the year, Huanghai provided an updated, step-entry version to make up the difference.
Although not friendly to senior passengers, the 750mm (2.5 ft.) floor does provide a remarkable capacity and an extremely open view through the large side glass. Quality is about average among hundreds of BPT bus models; being one of the earliest Huanghai model introduced after the grand invitation of bids, DD6129S31 established the Huanghai's reputation of quality as a leading bus manufacturer.
Similar in every aspect, DD6129S31 is very easily confused with its 11m sibling DD6118S11.

NOVO SELO, Bulgaria — U.S. and Bulgarian military personnel joined together for two symbolic ceremonies Sept. 27 and 28 as exercise Lion Strike came to an end.
First, Joint Task Force-East celebrated the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a humanitarian project at a kindergarten in Mokren, Bulgaria. Eleven U.S. Navy personnel from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 40, otherwise known as SeaBees, finished an extensive renovation of the school during the exercise.
The children from the school, along with parents, teachers, school director, local officials and U.S. and Bulgarian military personnel, crowded the small courtyard during the ceremony.
"We say in the United States that the children are our future," said Army Lt. Col. Bruce Sones, commanding officer for JTF-E "Lion Strike".
"We hope through the efforts of those involved in this project that the improved environment created for teaching the children will contribute to the children's development as they grow and become leaders in your society."
The school director, Margarita Nicolova, thanked the SeaBees and then presented them with a picture painted by the children, a CD of Bulgarian folk music, a photo of the children and a glass vial filled with Bulgarian soil.
Of the soil, she said, "Wherever you go, you know you'll have a piece of Bulgaria with you."
The school children then sang several songs for the audience and the ribbon was cut. But, there was another surprise for the children, a HMMWV full of gifts. All of the soldiers, sailors and airmen participating in the exercise had contributed money to buy much-needed school supplies and educational toys for the school.
"We will maintain what you have done, and promise to continue with improvements," said Emil Enchev, mayor of Mokren. "Hopefully we will continue working together in the future."
The next day, all JTF-E "Lion Strike" participants, both U.S. and Bulgarian, came together again, this time to commemorate the end of the exercise during the closing ceremony.
During the ceremony Sones and Col. Biser Kalinov, chief of Training, Bulgarian Land Forces, presented certificates of achievement to 14 U.S. Soldiers and 16 Bulgarian soldiers for their efforts during the exercise.
"During this training, we had the opportunity to gain military experience from the leading force in NATO - the United States Military, and to show that while representing a small army, the Bulgarian officers, Non-commissioned officers and soldiers are honorable partners and excellent professionals," said Kalinov, who spoke first during the ceremony.
He was followed by Sones, who echoed Kalinov's feelings.
"This closing ceremony does not mark the end of a training opportunity or a farewell to relationships fostered," said Sones.
"In our minds, it marks the hopeful commencement of future training opportunities to be conducted between our nations."
"We can truly say the professionalism and generosity of the Bulgarian Land Forces is unrivaled," he continued.
"We know the strong relationship between the United States and Bulgaria, as demonstrated during this exercise, will continue to grow, and we look forward to training and serving with you in the years to come."
6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (6 RAR)
The 6th Battalion was first raised at Enoggera on the 6th of June 1965. The Battalion has served twice in Vietnam and has recently served in East Timor and currently has members serving in Iraq. The Battalion was involved in the famous battle of Long Tan and one of its companies received the United States Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation.

A sea of people, including family and friends of returned Australian soldiers will line the streets of Brisbane on Saturday to welcome home the soldiers of the 7th Brigade and to mark the end of their contribution to operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor in 2010.
The Welcome Home Parade will honour the Brisbane based 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (6 RAR) who are returning from active duty in Afghanistan.
The march across the city will be made up of Artilleryman, Signallers, The Light Horse Brigade, 6 RAR and The Engineer Regiment.
Starting in Southbank, returned soldiers will march over the Victoria Bridge and make their way into the CBD, marching down George St, Adelaide St, and looping around to Ann St where they will finish up at King George Square.
Graham Smith from the 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment Association says this is an important time for the returned soldiers.
"We are so highly thought of all around the world in terms of soldiering and these boys have represented themselves very well.
"They've been in arduous (and) very dangerous circumstances, they haven't complained, they have acquitted themselves in the greatest traditions of 6 RAR and the Australian Army and I think they deserve to be acknowledged for what they have done, on this day, rather than waiting for Anzac Day, when we acknowledge the Australian contribution to defence right around the world", he says.
Speaking to ABC Local Radio in Brisbane Mr Smith explained that the march also was a time to honour the memory of the soldiers from 6 RAR that have fallen in the line of duty.
As a result of the Australian defence support in Afghanistan this year, six serving Queenslanders won't be returning home.
In August 2010 6 RAR Private's Grant Kirby, 35, and Tomas Dale, 21, were killed by a roadside bomb.
One month earlier another 6 RAR Private, Nathan Bewes, 23, was killed and the Brisbane-based 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment also lost Sappers Jacob Moerland, 21, and Darren Smith, 25, in June.
Whether you agree or disagree with Australia's involvement in overseas defence, Mr Smith, who was part of the original 6th Battalion that was formed in 1965, says the march is particularly important for the soldiers themselves.
"The significance of this march brings me back to when I returned from Vietnam in 1967, and we marched through Brisbane...that was such a proud occasion and it just made me feel, and I'm sure it was the same for all my mates, that what we endured for the 12 months previous was worthwhile that we were appreciated.
"It will be special, and I'm travelling from my home in Wide Bay to attend", he says.

The BAC Jet Provost (originally built by Hunting Percival) was a British jet-powered trainer aircraft used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) from 1955 to 1993. The Jet Provost was also successfully exported, serving in many air forces worldwide.
In the 1950s the RAF issued a requirement for a new dedicated jet training aircraft. Hunting Percival developed the Jet Provost from the piston-engined Percival Provost basic trainer. On 16 June 1954, the prototype XD674 made its first flight from the factory at Luton Airport, flown by Dick Wheldon. The Air Ministry ordered ten of the Jet Provost T1.
In June 1957, an order was placed for the first 40 of the developed Jet Provost T3, featuring a more powerful Armstrong Siddeley Viper jet engine, ejector seats, a redesign of the airframe, and a shortened and strengthened version of the retractable tricycle undercarriage. Percival built one example used purely for structural tests throughout the development stages, giving the designers valuable research into what could be achieved with the basic design. In total, 201 T3s were delivered between 1958 and 1962.
The Jet Provost proved to be a capable trainer. After successful acceptance trials of the T1 during late 1955 at No. 2 Flying Training School at RAF Hullavington, the RAF formally accepted the type in 1957. The first production version was the T3, powered by the Viper 102, and this entered service with No. 2 FTS, now relocated to RAF Syerston, during June 1959, when deliveries commenced from the Hunting Aircraft factory at Luton airport. The T3 was also operated by Central Flying School at RAF Little Rissington, the Royal Air Force College at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire, and by No. 1 Flying Training School at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, Yorkshire, 3FTS at RAF Leeming, Yorkshire, 6FTS at RAF Acklington, Northumberland, and 7FTS at RAF Church Fenton, Yorkshire.
The later T4 was fitted with the more powerful Viper A.S.V. 11 of 2,500 lbs static thrust and first flew on 15 July 1960. It quickly entered service with the units listed above.
The T5 variant was further developed and fitted with the Viper 201 and cockpit pressurisation. These developments encouraged the RAF to utilise the Jet Provost in a number of different roles besides basic training. With a top speed of 440 mph, excellent maneuverability, mechanical reliability and low operating costs, the Jet Provost was utilized as an aerobatic aircraft, air warfare and tactical weapons training as well as advanced training. The first T5 made its maiden flight on 28 February 1967 and deliveries from BAC's Warton factory commenced on 3 September 1969. Operators of the T 5 included the RAFs Central Flying School and No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 Flying Training Schools.
Besides service with the RAF, the Jet Provost found success in export markets. Jet Provosts were withdrawn from RAF service in the early 1990s and replaced by Short Tucanos. The Jet Provost remains popular among enthusiasts and being an inexpensive jet, many are now in private hands. Some are flown at airshows, whilst roughly equal numbers are maintained in ground runnable condition at various locations, mainly in the United Kingdom.

Joseph Patrick "Joe" Kennedy Jr. (July 25, 1915 – August 12, 1944) was a United States Navy lieutenant. He was killed in action while serving as a land-based patrol bomber pilot in World War II and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. He was the eldest of nine children born to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. (1888–1969) and Rose Fitzgerald (1890–1995).
Joe Sr. had plans for Joe Jr. to become President.[1][page needed] However, Joe Jr. was killed while participating in a top-secret mission in 1944, and the high expectations of the father then fell upon Joe Jr.'s younger brother John who was later elected President.
Kennedy was born in Hull, Massachusetts. He first attended the Dexter School in Brookline, Massachusetts, with his brother, John. He graduated from The Choate School (now Choate Rosemary Hall) in 1933 in Wallingford, Connecticut. He then entered Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, graduating in 1938. Kennedy participated in football, rugby, and crew, and he served on the student council. Kennedy then spent a year studying under the tutelage of Harold Laski at the London School of Economics before enrolling in Harvard Law School.
Political ambitions and views[edit]
From a very young age, Kennedy was groomed by his father and predicted to be the first Roman Catholic Irish-American President of the United States. When he was born, his grandfather John F. Fitzgerald (1863–1950), then Mayor of Boston, told the news, "This child is the future President of the nation." He often boasted that he would be president even without help from his father. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1940. Kennedy planned to run for Massachusetts's 11th congressional district in 1946.
Kennedy expressed approval of Adolf Hitler. His father sent him to visit Nazi Germany in 1934. He wrote to his father (and possibly influenced by experience with his intellectually disabled sister Rosemary), praising Hitler’s sterilization policy as “a great thing” that “will do away with many of the disgusting specimens of men.” [2] He explained that "Hitler is building a spirit in his men that could be envied in any country." [3][4]
U.S. Navy (1941-1944)[edit]
Kennedy left before his final year of law school at Harvard to enlist in the U.S. Naval Reserve on June 24, 1941.[5] He entered flight training to be a Naval Aviator, and after training, he received his wings and was commissioned an ensign on May 5, 1942.[5] He was assigned to Patrol Squadron 203 and then Bombing Squadron 110.[5] In September 1943, he was sent to Britain and became a member of Bomber Squadron 110, Special Air Unit ONE, in 1944. He piloted land-based PB4Y Liberator patrol bombers on anti-submarine details during two tours of duty in the winter of 1943–1944. Kennedy had completed 25 combat missions and was eligible to return home. He instead volunteered for an Operation Aphrodite mission.[6]
Legacy[edit]
In 1946, the Navy named a destroyer for Kennedy, the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., aboard which his younger brother, (future U.S. Senator) Robert F. Kennedy, briefly served. Among the highlights of its service are the blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 and the afloat recovery teams for Gemini 6 and Gemini 7, both 1965 manned spaceflights in NASA's Gemini program. It is now a floating museum in Battleship Cove, Fall River, Massachusetts.
In 1947, the Kennedys established the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation and funded the construction of the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Memorial Hall at Boston College, now a part of Campion Hall and home to the college's Lynch School of Education. The foundation was led by his youngest brother, U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, until his death in August 2009. In 1957, the Lieutenant Joseph Patrick Kennedy Junior Memorial Skating Rink was opened in Hyannis, Massachusetts, with funds from the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation.
In 1969, Hank Searls wrote a biography of Joe Jr., entitled The Lost Prince: Young Joe, the Forgotten Kennedy. A television movie based on Searls' book won a primetime Emmy in 1977. [18]
Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. is the only son of Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy who was never a candidate for the U.S. presidency.

John Marshall was the fourth Chief Justice of the United States, serving on the Supreme Court from 1801 until his death in 1835. This statue is in Marshall Park, near the Canadian Embassy in DC.

As the American Revolutionary War began in 1775, Marshall joined the Culpepper Minutemen and was appointed as a lieutenant. He fought at the Battle of Great Bridge, where the minutemen defeated British troops under Lord Dunmore, permanently ending British control of Virginia. In 1776, Marshall's company was attached to the Eleventh Virginia Continental Regiment. He participated in many battles, including Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Stony Point and Paulus Hook. In the winter of 1777-1778, he was at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, with General George Washington's troops.[2] During his military service, he became personally acquainted with Washington.
Having reached the rank of captain, Marshall returned to Virginia in 1779. He studied law privately, attending lectures conducted by George Wythe at the College of William and Mary. He was admitted to the bar in 1780, but returned to the army when British troops invaded Virginia later in the same year. He served under the Baron von Steuben until 1781, when he resigned his army commission in order to begin private law practice.

I'm working on several pieces for a restaurant that is opening here in Stockholm in November. It's been a collaboration between me, the chef and the architects. I'm really enjoying it and am looking forward to seeing it in use. Now it's lots of work to get all finished in time.

This outstanding vintage mid century modernistic " Capri " lin by Latama of Italy 3 piece carving set is being offered. The Carving Knife measures 14" long and the fork is 10 3/4" long. The ham slicer/serving knife is 13" long. They are all in very good vintage condition with light wear. It comes in it's original fabric cover (which shows signs of wear).
The Capri line was designed by the pre-eminent American artist Alfredo Guerra - Winner of many national awards for his design and sculpting . Mr. Guerra's design for the Tuberculosis Foundation was chosen in a competition for the 1958 Christmas Seal . This sleek cutlery set is Italian made by Latama in their exclusive " Monobloc " process using a single ingot of stainless steel - haft and blade are one piece . Each implement passed through 112 hand operations forging, hammering, tempering, grinding, polishing and honing until the ultimate in fine cutlery is finally achieved . The handles have a satin / brushed finish which gives outstanding contrast to the mirror like finish of the blade and tines .
In Toronto, the Ontario Sikhs and Gurdwaras Council (OSGC) organized an annual parade along Lakeshore Blvd. This is the third largest parade in Canada and attracts thousands of participants and spectators each year.
It was the 31st annual Khalsa Day celebration and parade – which celebrates the Sikh New Year, more than 85,000 people took part to downtown Toronto this Sunday, April 24,2016.
The parade began at Exhibition Place and ended at Nathan Phillips Square.
Khalsa Day, also known as Vaisakhi, celebrates the Sikh new year and the founding of the Khalsa order of Sikhism. It is considered one of the largest parades in Canada.
No one went hungry. Hundreds of people lining the route offered free food and drink to all passersby, known as Langar, or free kitchen.
The parade included traditional music and drumming. A sea of bright turbans and clothing were seen.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Toronto Mayor John Tory also attended the event.
