Seen at Thurrock Services on the way to the Horsham Rally.

For Steam Sunday here's another from what was unquestionably the longest train chase of my life...well over 500 miles from DeQuincy, Louisiana to the Mexican border at Laredo, Texas (though not in one day)!

This is Canadian Pacific 2816, the famed 'Empress', an H1b class 4-6-4 Hudson built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1930. Orignally retired in 1960 after there decades of pulling CP passenger trains the locomotive was purchased by F. Nelson Blount for preservation as part of his Steamtown collection in Vermont. It later moved with the rest of the collection to Scranton until CP purchased it back from the National Park Service in 1998. Returned to service in 2001 she operated until 2012 when E. Hunter Harrison took the reigns at CP. Eight years later Keith Creel (EHH's successor) reversed course and she was fired up for a test run and then a second restoration began which was completed in 2023.

As a way of celebrating the approval and consummation of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern Railway merger on April 14, 2023 CPKC is running a tri nation tour across the length of their newly combined network. The trip began in Calgary on April 24th and concluded in Mexico City on June 7th before returning home for a total of three months on the road and 9000 miles round trip!

Here she is paused for a service stop in a strange land far from her historic home rails operating across Union Pacific trackage rights on modern day UP's Houston Sub the former Southern Pacific (T&NO) Sunset Route mainline. She is sitting just east of the Van Hut Lane crossing at about MP 350.8 near the eastern city limits and will soon be on the move toward Englewood Yard and through downtown on her way to Sugarland, Rosenburg and ultimately home rails in Kendleton where she'll rest for a couple nights.

The ex Go London EvoSeti's are now appearing in service with Go North West but technology failed today when 3051 BG66MHZ fell off the tracker after 1 minute and vanished, with calculated guess work I found it returning out of service.

As always, your comments and faves are appreciated. Constructive criticism and suggestions are especially welcome as I believe they help to make me a better photographer. Thank you for taking the time to look at my photos.

NASA science research on the International Space Station reached an extraordinary milestone June 14. The vital, versatile EXPRESS Racks – properly known as “EXpedite the PRocessing of Experiments to the Space Station” multipurpose payload shelving units – logged 1 million hours of combined powered duty on station. That’s the equivalent of nearly 115 years’ worth of scientific research completed in just two decades. In this image, NASA astronaut Kayla Barron monitors experiments in one of the International Space Station’s 12 EXPRESS Racks during Expedition 66, which ran from October 2021 to March 2022. As many as 100 experiments at a time can be simultaneously conducted in the station’s full complement of racks, helping NASA achieve 1 million hours of powered EXPRESS Rack duty between 2001-2022.

A tranquil moment inside a restaurant where the frenzied lunch crowd has all but dispersed. Room Service is a cozy and hip Thai restaurant located on 8th Ave in Chelsea of Manhattan. One of the things I love when on holiday is the opportunity to dine out at interesting places among the locals and tourists alike. Wandering the streets soaking in the sight, sound and smell is something I am never tired of. Have you ever noticed that the food always seem to taste better when you're traveling? Or how it seems you're always hungry?

Here's the taxi rank, and one goose cab is off to a green area. The others gradually follow, reforming each time into another taxi...

It's easier, especially in strong winds for the geese to fly together. Even over a short distance, it's possible to see some geese drop back a bit as others come to the front. I don't know if anybody gets any tips!

According to a news report I once saw, some athletic trainers have urged their trainees to watch how geese work together to achieve their amazing flights.
