I'm skipping the intermediate efforts but this is what it looked like after about four cleaning attempts. I tried wrapping a PecPad wipe around a SensorSwab Type 3 swab and found that it made the swab almost too large. I had a difficult time inserting the swab into the chamber without making significant contacts with the sides. Also, I couldn't seem to get a properly aligned consistent swipe across the sensor face (well, actually the protective glass above the sensor).
I was able to remove most of the dirt but I was left with numerous "blotchy" areas that I seemed to have introduced. These are exaggerated when using PS auto level and don't seem to be visible when I take a picture, but they look annoying.
At this point, I gave up on the PecPads, ran out of swabs (I thought I could do it with 3 swabs), and decided to take the camera to the Nikon service center in El Segundo, CA, for a "professional" cleaning (which is located about 2 km away from where I work).
Electronic sensors are a part of every single machine, as they enable them to receive informations from their surroudings. Visit our store and learn how to use those components!
Not all robots use vision systems in their work. So how does a blind robot know where it is moving? This rotational sensor reads light and dark sections of a disc to determine how much it - and any object it is attached to - has rotated. Each pie-shaped section of the disc has a different light and dark pattern, representing part of a 360 degree full rotation. By identifying the light-dark patterns, sensors determine how far the disc has moved.

Just above the bolt in this photo is the temperature sensor. Notice the complete lack of a wire going to it.
Sigh.

This is how it looks like when I point my camera to the blue sky at f/13. Dust isn't really visible, IMHO

here´s the result after my first sensor cleaning. u can see the dusty version below.
it took me 4 trials to get this result. a few of those dust spots survived though.
I used "sensor swaps" for cleaning. very expensive but apparently effective.
