June 27, 2016: Seljalandsfoss, Iceland

there was some real rough weather during our trip in iceland. It was a combination of strong winds, snow, rain and occassional hail. I found it real hard to concentrate taking pictures, but then my wife was able to capture this with her point and shoot.

We camped in tents down in the far field from this waterfall - which always looks beautiful in the setting sun. There's waterfalls all along the cliff, providing an amazing scene.

it was kind of Arctic in Iceland the whole eight days we were there. We could have done with crampons and ice axes to get to many locations, especially behind the waterfalls. Having only yaktraks we still made it to every one, except those like Seljalandsfoss, which was fenced off.

Got drafted for a team shooting for challenges over at an Icelandic site, www.ljosmyndakeppni.is

The first theme was landscapes, wich I enjoyed since I haven´t been very active in that department for the last 3 years or so. This waterfall is about 70-80 minutes away from Reykjavík so when I was finished shooting a wedding halfway there I drove up to take some shots just after the sun set that day. Taken with a polarizer, that´s why the sky is a bit uneven in the middle of the shot.

Seljalandsfoss is one of the most popular waterfalls and natural wonders in Iceland. The waterfall drops 60 m (197 ft) and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull. One of the interesting things about this waterfall is that visitors can walk behind it into a small cave.

I was too chicken to get my camera wet. So here's Jill's iPhone behind the fall pic :-)

If you like waterfalls then you should visit Iceland as they are everywhere I must go back to this country myself the landscapes are so varied and unusual

The Seljalandsfoss in Southern Iceland is fed from the meltwater of the Eyarfallajokull icecap. The falls are quite narrow and not particularly tall but fall with great force into the meadow underneath. There is a very slippery path so you can walk behind the falls you can just make out a person or two. I did not attempt this feat could not risk damage to me or the camera (to be honest was using Mary's camera I never took my camera near a waterfall)

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT HAVE A GREAT DAY

Taken around Seljalandsfoss Waterfall in Iceland. This was my favorite area in Iceland. It was breathtaking.

Visitors gather beneath Seljalandsfoss south of Hvolsvollur in South Iceland. Notice the hikers at the top of the cliff above the falls on the skyline. The 60 meter (197 foot) water fall lies on Seljalandsá, a river whose headwaters lies beneath the glacier that covers the volcano Eyjafjallajökull..The river falls over former seacliffs. The coast now lies a couple of miles west of the cliffs. The majority of the cliffs are made up of pillow basalt, hyaloclastites, and interbedded sediments which were deposited underwater during the Upper Pliestocene. The waterfall sits close to Seljaland, a farm in the lowlands north of the cliffs.
