Taken around Seljalandsfoss Waterfall in Iceland. This was my favorite area in Iceland. It was breathtaking.
Seljalandsfoss is a pretty famous waterfall dropping about 60m. While there are many waterfalls in Iceland that are this tall, I think its claim to fame is that you can go behind it. We utilized the well-developed loop trail that takes in the waterfall's backside as well as any other angle imaginable for viewing.
I usually replace older versions of the same exposure if I remaster them, but this one took on a whole new life and deserves its place in the sun. So to speak.
From the original notes...
We arrived at Seljalandsfoss just minutes before sunset, not realizing that this was the perfect time to be there. The sunset then turned into the best display we saw on our whole trip to Iceland.
This golden light only lasted around 2 minutes. I also didn't have a way of cleaning water off the lens, so the shots got softer and softer as the sequence continued. It was easy to get soaked at a few places behind these falls.
This hidden gem of a waterfall is next to the more popular waterfall Seljalandsfoss in Iceland. You walk through a small gorge and enter a huge cave with this beautiful waterfall falling from an opening above. Awesome is an understatement!

One of the most picturesque waterfalls in Iceland and one of the most photographed.
Seljalandsfoss waterfall has its origins deep within an ice cap that covers the caldera of the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano and is fed by glacial melt water. The area in front of the waterfall was once completely covered by the ocean. However, due to geothermal activity over millions of years, the coastline has retreated and the erosion process has filled the surrounding area with sand, creating a beautiful meadow in its place. Seljalandsfoss is a waterfall in Iceland. Seljalandsfoss is located in the South Region in Iceland right by Route 1 and the road that leads to Þórsmörk Road 249.[2] The waterfall drops 60 m (197 ft) and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull. Visitors can walk behind the falls into a small cave.

People usually spend less than an hour in Seljalandsfoss, Iceland. You get to the waterfall, go behind it, and leave.
Unless you have four weeks in the country.
It'll then allow you to come and go for as long as you want, basically the entire day, until you can witness an eventual sunset.
That picture is what happened then.
This is the last photo I took in Iceland. The country is an amazing place and I had an amazing guide and colleague Snorri Gunnarsson show me the whole south coast.
Seljalandsfoss is a beautiful waterfall along the southern coast of Iceland. It cascades over steep cliffs, which makes it possible for you to walk behind the waterfall. It offers a spectacular view of the waterfall itself and the surroundings.
Iceland 🇮🇸, March 2018
Wet, wet, wet... To a point where I just gave up. The sun was setting and I tried everything to get a shot from behind the water. Colours were nice in the sky, it could be a nice shot. But the wind... Oh Icelandic wind. I love you so much :)
Seriously, it was more like rain falling over the camera. I think the d800 proved to be weather sealed that day. I had a towel and it got completely wet to a point that trying to wipe the camera was worthless. After about one hour I gave up and did a more traditional shot with anything left that I had to clean the lens. It was worth it.

Seljalandsfoss has its origins underneath the glacier Eyjafjallajökull. The volcano beneath this ice cap was the one that erupted in 2010.
One of the country's most famous and visited falls it is one of the most photographed in all of Iceland.
Seljalandsfoss , Iceland
This is the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall in Iceland, where you can get in behind the falls. After a solid day of heavy rain, a lot of water was going over the falls, and with the 50k winds that day, we became saturated and almost froze to death. the wind was blowing the water back into the cave too, so it was a bit of a trial to get get these shots :) I used a monopod built into a trekking pole to take this shot.

Seljalandsfoss is exceptional waterfall on the South Coast of Iceland. It is located in the municipality of Rangárþing eystra between Hvollsvollur and Skogar below the large glacier shield of Eyjafjallajökull and directly at the junction of the road towards Þórsmörk. The river Seljalandsá plunges 66 meters over the former coastline into the flood plain of Markarfljót, into which it flows shortly afterwards. The waterfall has a pathway that allows visitors to walk behind the cascading water.
