Use a chef's knife to cut away peel & pith. Then just cut out the segments from between the membrane. Kind of messy work but worth it!
CO (Saguache County)
Day 4 random campsite (Segment 17) to random campsite (Segment 19)
This day was all about the meadows. It started off with a fairly steep, short climb. Then the trail made its way down to Lujan Creek within a large meadow. This was Lujan Pass. I stopped for a coffee break and water fill-up. Normally, the trail would come down and then head back uphill shortly thereafter. But not this time. The trail continued to follow the meadow downhill via an old road. Nice easy walking to CO114.
There was a short road walk on CO114 and then a gate to pass through. This was the start of Segment 18. Another meadow to pass through. One problem about hiking through the open spaces of meadows is the lack of shade. Fortunately, today had plenty of cloud cover to prevent baking in the sun. It did rain a few times, but never for too long or too hard.
After hiking through some cow pastures (don't drink the water!) came into a huge valley that again was easy walking. Rain was threatening, so I couldn't stop for an early Dinner Break. I pushed on to a campsite within an Aspen Grove on the edge of the valley/meadow.
Today there was alot of dirt road walking which was very easy and good for extra mileage. This section was probably one of the easiest yet. Overall did 19.5 miles and was a little sore.
Today was not a day with many photograph opportunities for Project 365. When I was peeling an orange at lunch time I managed to get the whole peel off without breaking it into pieces. Feeling inspired, I decided that this orange could do double duty as a 365 image and as lunch.
Another Option. The black rim with more yellow spokes, ...... not to all tastes.
Maybe the 2 white trim lines under the rim could be half the thickness.
Or and in beech, not maple.
Maybe some more black brick lines under the feature ring.
Pine Fest Music Festival in Halfway Oregon
What a great first day at Pine Fest - Halfway, Oregon. and amazing kick off to the weekend that was. Lots of great music with the Halfwits, Hannah Gotzman, and Makenna Olson, Jack and Sarah Greenman, and Basic Needs.
Billed as the tiniest music festival in the tiniest town, Pine fest is one of our favorite fall events along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway. We had a great day hanging out with locals and visitors from Oregon Idaho and Washington listening to a great line up of bands and musicians from throughout the Northwest at the Baker County Fairgrounds in Halfway.
Pine Fest is the largest musical festival in Halfway but the community also hosts a number of other musical events including the summer concert series on the Main Street Stage. For more information about Pine Fest including next year’s dates and performers visit www.pinefest.org
The town of Halfway is just one of numerous small towns along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway, a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with Interstate 84 at Baker City and La Grande, and communities all along the byway host a variety of festivals and community events throughout the year providing visitors a chance to celebrate local culture and visit with locals while exploring this incredibly scenic region of North East Oregon.
The byway is a popular destination for group tours and offers visitors a chance to experience small town Americana in small towns like Halfway, as they explore the rugged and spectacular Northeast Oregon landscape along the way.
The entire route is on a paved highway. Plan ahead - you'll find stretches of more than eighty miles without gas and with few services. A segment of the Byway between Joseph and Halfway closes with snow in winter, but allows access to winter recreation areas, offering a whole other kind of Northeast Oregon Adventure.

This was my first attempt at a segmented bowl. Before I read the book I recently bought on the subject. I learned many lessons in making this.

McGlothlin Street Hall, College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA
(Allan Greenberg Architect)
Formerly known as Tercentenary Hall.
A short segment of a railroad spur track that had served a Texaco Oil Company facility that had large oil holding tanks on the property, that later was owned by my Uncle's who used the old Warehouse building for storage and the man who now owns the property has been very busy cutting down a lot of the trees and had removed some of the rotten timber ties, revealing the last short remnant of the spur track.
There was only about 30 feet of the rails that were left in place after my neighbor, the late Mister Elijah Kelly had cut up and scrapped 75 percent of the spur.
The dark muddy path that is clear on the opposite side of the pile of old rotten timber ties is the abandoned grade of the former Brookhaven and Pearl River Railway, a branch line of the Illinois Central Railroad that this spur track had branched off of.
