CO (Chaffee County)
Acclimation is always key if you are planning on some high altitude hiking. The Colorado Trail has plenty of high altitudes, so I always did some prehikes before backpacking. This year I was near Buena Vista at the Avalanche Trailhead.
The Avalanche Trailhead is just off of County Rd 306 and has a large parking area. And, as a bonus for hikers, there is a privy located here. There is no camping at the trailhead but I found a dispersed campsite not far away. After I set up camp, I returned to the trailhead to begin hiking.
As a dayhike this was going to be a ‘there and back again’. The trail started with some steep sidehill. It snaked through a forest intermingled with Aspens. As the trail climbed away from the creek, it was fairly easy hiking with the steepness on either side. The ridgeline was way above but eventually the trail returned to the stream.
Cruising right along, I crossed over 2 creeks via bridges. I did notice some nice campsites near the bridges. There were a few other spots that I could have managed to set up a tent. Enjoyed some views of far off peaks, including Mount Yale. Took a short break at South Cottowood Creek.
Encountered a few thru hikers and some other dayhikers. Upon returning, hikers were already occupying some of the tent sites seen earlier.
It was a great hike, approximately 6-7 miles roundtrip. Temps were in the 70s with a few afternoon showers thrown in. Back at my car camping site, it was steak and beans for dinner.

We just walked part of the Waitukubuli National Trail, Segment 2, Bellevue Chopin to Tete Morne via Morpo.
The whole trail goes from Soufriere Estate to Bellevue Chopin.

Another Option. The black rim with more yellow spokes, ...... not to all tastes.
Maybe the 2 white trim lines under the rim could be half the thickness.
Or and in beech, not maple.
Maybe some more black brick lines under the feature ring.

This was my first attempt at a segmented bowl. Before I read the book I recently bought on the subject. I learned many lessons in making this.

Waitukubuli National Trail, Segment 8, Petite Macoucherie to First Camp.
This is the first segmented vessel I started (the second one finished). It was supposed to have a purpleheart rim on the top too, but I accidentally turned it off. Another good lesson learned.

Ice Age Trail - Table Rock Segment, Dane County, Wisconsin. This segment of the Ice Age Trail lies just west of the glaciated area of Wisconsin in the unglaciated Driftless Area. This wildflower is on a portion of the segment on a very scenic, private, 460 acre restoration area owned by the Swamplovers Foundation. This is an outstanding example of public/private collaboration in preservation and restoration of natural areas.

Persian history (Parthian) King Phraates IV ca. 38 - 2 BC. AR Drachm
Mint: Drachm (Silver, 19 mm, 3.69 g, 12 h), Ekbatana.
Obverse: bare-headed bust left with royal wart, pointed beard; wearing diadem. Segmented necklet, eagle with wreath behind (being crowned by eagle flying to left; star in crescent. Rev.
