Outside Las Vegas Foundation promotes healthy and outdoor activities with in communities. We work with a lot of partners downtown, where we also are located. It would be a great opportunity to be able to commute to meetings and lunch outings by bicycle. By this method our contribution to traffic and emissions would be greatly reduced.
Close up of how it comes together. It lifts up a precast piece of guideway, places it, and then its bolted (or something) together.Taken April 2006
The new highway runs over the old railbed in places, so the trail follows the contour of the adjacent land.

I had to crop this a little closer.. the craters are awesome.. but that awful purple fringe is extra evident... bummer.. gotta play around with it in ps a bit more
What a day, excellent creative fun.
Sharp tools,
keep the speed up for the small diameter, (tks Kelly)
Chisel firmly on the rest,
take your time,
Have plenty of meat to practice on, as you bring it down to size,
rest a while,
Take plenty of snaps!

I was done hiking, but I wasn't done hiking. I wanted to finish Segment 8 and since there were less than 4 miles to go I decided to dayhike the rest. It was an easy hike, there and back again. Some old charcoal/coke oven ruins were just before Tennessee Pass.
I camped for the night near the 1st crossing of US24 where there is a large meadow.
Oh That's Rough! Obviously a first time turner.
The mahogany end grain is catching a lot, might cheat on the final and use lots of sandpaper.
I'm also hoping the Mahogany will darken down a bit.

I wanted to do a little more experimenting with these kinds of shots. Out of about 30, I got a few decent ones, but none I'm too happy with yet.

Day 7 random campsite (Segment 21) to Spring Creek Pass
I stopped short of preferred destination last night and I think that was a good idea. It was cold (low 30s) and planned site was even higher so might have been even colder. As I began hiking I didn't recognize the location of the site. If I had continued hiking the night before I might have missed it and then had no where to camp.
The Colorado Trail Databook that I use identifies campsite locations. I don't always camp at these locations but they usually make for good destinations. Current conditions might have me change my mind and adjust accordingly. At the appropriate time in the day, I''ll start searching for a flat spot.
Today was the final day of this section hike. I had 10.8 miles to make it to Spring Creek Pass. There was an initial good climb out of West Mineral Creek Drainage. During a gradual decline from the high point at 12,785 ft, there was some steep sidehill and glimpses of chalk cliffs. Shortly thereafter Snow Mesa begins.
