There were several types of mammoth, all members of the elephant family. Most widespread was the Woolly Mammoths, which ranged across all northern continents and grew a very long, thick, hairy coat to keep out the bitter cold of the recent Ice Ages.
The woolly mammoth was roughly the same size as modern African elephant. Males reached shoulder heights between 2.7 and 3.4 m (9 and 11 ft) and weighed up to 6 tonnes (6.6 short tons). Females averaged 2.6–2.9 metres (8.5–9.5 ft) in height and weighed up to 4 tonnes (4.4 short tons). A newborn calf weighed about 90 kilograms (200 lb).
The woolly mammoth coexisted with early humans, who used its bones and tusks for making art, tools, and dwellings, and the species was also hunted for food. It disappeared from its mainland range at the end of the Pleistocene 10,000 years ago, most likely through climate change and consequent shrinkage of its habitat, hunting by humans, or a combination of the two.
The teeth of a mammoth consist of a series of plates composed of enamel surrounding a dentine core. These are held together in a matrix of dental cement.
Each tooth erupted from the back of the jaw and slowly moved forward as it wore, to be replaced by another tooth from behind. The thickness and number of tooth plates are important identification criteria.

The Crown
Corner of Lime Street and Skelhorne Street, Liverpool. The Crown is a Grade II listed building and was once described by someone thus - " The Crown is a flamboyant gin palace which has retained its architectural splendour since 1905. It has wide rooms, a long bar, and serves good food, but the most amazing thing about it is the ceiling. It seems about three feet above your head, because it is so deep and ornate and richly painted. There are cut-glass windows, hammered copper panels, and rich dark woodwork. But for all its magnificence The Crown has an air of sedate madness."

Public House. 1905. Brick with stucco, and marble facing to ground floor. "Art nouveau" style. 3 storeys with attic, 2 x 3 bays. Ground floor has segmental arches between flat pilasters, cornice over. Openings contain entrances flanked by windows. 1st and 2nd floors have bowed stucco bays between pilaster strips. Stucco entablature. Attic has lunettes in elaborate architraves. Swept parapet between ends of pilaster strips. Stone coping. Return to Skelhorn Street similar, 1st bay has elaborate panel with lettering: "WALKERS\ALES\WARRINGTON". Interior has richly moulded coffered ceilings. 2 fireplaces, original bars, engraved glass.

Coming out of the building and into the yard, the trains will move onto a 9-metre-long incline all the way to the top of a 2-metre-high fence (2.2 metres on the other side).

Route 66 (Alignment 1926-1974) - Cajon Blvd (4-Lane segment).
To access this alignment, leave I-15 Exit 129, turn to right and use Cajon Blvd.
Half mile after the freeway exit, we reach the beginning of the 4-lane segment. Today, only the 2-lane of right are used.
