Segment 3 is almost 13 miles long. I hiked most of it the day before. There really isn't anything special about segment 3 but it was fairly easy hiking. I was up and moving before 0800. It was cloudy and 56f and segment 4 was just around the corner.

Rolling Creek Trailhead is off of Wellington Lake Rd, a dirt, forest service road. There is a small parking area here. This is also the access to the town of Bailey about 8 miles away. A resupply option for those hiking the Colorado Trail. I was glad that I opted to go to Buffalo Creek instead of Bailey. There were 2 vehicles at the trailhead but the road did not appear to be busy at all. Might've been a long wait.

Within 2 miles is Lost Creek Wilderness. No bikes are allowed in Wilderness Areas so I thought that this would be the most spectacular part of the trail yet. It wasn't. It actually reminded me of the Appalachian Trail. It was through the woods with lots of rocks, roots, blowdowns and stepovers. I wasn't sure if a bike could even make it through. To me it was the most difficult part of the trail to this point. There were also some steep, rocky dirt road walks as well.

6 miles to get through the Wilderness and after about 5 miles made it over 10,000 ft for the first time. A very large meadow was next up. Even though it started to rain, hiking through the meadow was nice. Decent camping possibilities in the rain were few but I was on the lookout. If it hadn't been raining there were probably plenty of good sites, but the rain changes perspective. Finally settled on a spot on the edge of the meadow. Once the rain stopped, the mosquitoes came out in full force.

The various spiral arm segments of the Sunflower galaxy, also known as Messier 63, show up vividly in this image taken in infrared light by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope. Infrared light is sensitive to the dust lanes in spiral galaxies, which appear dark in visible-light images. Spitzer's view reveals complex structures that trace the galaxy's spiral arm pattern.

Messier 63 is 37 million light years away -- not far from the well-known Whirlpool galaxy and the associated Messier 51 group of galaxies.

The dust, glowing red in this image, can be traced all the way down into the galaxy's nucleus, forming a ring around the densest region of stars at its center. The dusty patches are where news stars are being born.

The short diagonal line seen on the lower right side of the galaxy's disk is actually a much more distant galaxy, oriented with its edge facing toward us.

Blue shows infrared light with wavelengths of 3.6 microns, green represents 4.5-micron light and red, 8.0-micron light. The contribution from starlight measured at 3.6 microns has been subtracted from the 8.0-micron image to enhance the visibility of the dust features.

The grain in the veneer is across its width, 1mm thick.

I'm guessing the white lines will be whiter than if we have end grain pocking out.

Also it might help with wood movement, but the Diameter is so small it may be negligible.

The African Blackwood is so hard it is nearly brittle at the edges.

It has a waxy appearance like Walnut.

The ring is 4 times as big as it needs to be, but then the pieces would be too small for me to cut and glue-up accurately.

2015 Lexus CT - A WORK OF ART POWERING LEXUS COMPACT HYBRID SEGMENT - SMADEMEDIA.COM

The CT when it first came out set the bar for the Lexus company that we have today as both with the new interior design as well as the arrow head LED; as Lexus calls it!! Or as we known it as "THE L LEDs" (Daytime Running Lamps/Lights(DRLs) and the most famous of all the Spindle Grille tho we always say the CT was the first Lexus with the Spindle Grille; However the GS Model was the first official Lexus with the Spindle Grille. We think by the GS came out Lexus figure that they would stick with this as the grille and finally gave it a name, and that our theory of how the Spindle Grille was born. When Lexus introduce the LF LC concept to the world with all the Spindle Grilles and the upcoming cars with the Spindle Grille design in the background the CT was featured as one of those cars. So i say thanks for the CT Lexus it changed the brand and it changed the world! - READ FULL ARTICLE - bit.ly/1hVPnbO

Mooresville, NC - If there was ever a time to put down some dominate numbers and come away with a couple of segment victories, this was the weekend. It was the Optima "Search for the Ultimate Street Car's" first double points event of the season and it worked out very well for Kyle Tucker and his Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro Test Car at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI. See all the pics here goo.gl/s8eWXN

As usual, the Detroit Speed sponsored Autocross and the Wilwood Speed Stop Challenge were the first segments Saturday morning and provided lots of action whether you were participating or if you were just hanging out in the pits amongst the crowd.

Kyle and the Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro were on point from the get go, laying down times hovering in the mid to high :13's until he put down his best time on his second to last run (:13.60) which was enough to claim the top spot and 50 points for the segment victory. Not to rest on his laurels, Kyle was also pushing hard on the autocross and ended up with 2nd place and another 44 points to add to his weekend collection. Detroit Speed dealer and good friend, Billy Utley took the top spot in the autocross driving his DSE "Equipped" 1972 Chevy Nova.

The road rally took place at the end of the day and took off from the speedway and ended at the Lingenfelter Design Collection in Brighton, MI. Thanks for their hospitality, great food, and beautiful cars to look at. It was, also, 5 minutes from Kyle and Stacy's house where Detroit Speed got its start. It was pretty neat to head back and see where it all started.

Sunday was more of the same from Kyle and the DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car. The Hot Lap Challenge gave the drivers a chance to really open up their cars with a 1.9 mile inside road course at Michigan. Kyle's first run of the day would have been good enough to capture first place and the full 50 points but he ended up besting that and put down a blistering 1:23.076 a few sessions later that no one was able to come close to.

Congratulations are in order for Mr. Billy Utley. Billy topped the GTV Class and was awarded his invitation to the season ending event in Las Vegas for the 2nd year in a row! Congrats Billy! We would also like to congratulate Bryan Johnson on his podium finish in the GT class and our very own Project Foreman, Chris Porter, on his podium finish in the GTV class.

Rick Hoback, driving his C5 Corvette, had good runs on the road course on Sunday. Unfortunately, due to another commitment, he could only attend on Sunday. Thanks Rick for flying the DSE flag proudly! Rick wasn't the only one flying the flag, DSE “Equipped" cars were out in full force and ran hard all weekend. If you have been following the Optima events in person or on social media, one thing you will notice is all the "63" images and decals around. The decal is for Todd Rumpke, our friend who drives the Snoopy C6 Corvette. He is in a difficult battle right now, and at the end of the day, we are all a family out there and would do anything to support a friend and fellow driver.

Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car Michigan Highlights:

• Kyle won the Speed Stop Challenge taking the maximum 50 points during this double points weekend

• Kyle claimed the top spot during the Sunday Hot Lap Challenge

• Kyle finished a close 2nd in the Detroit Speed Sponsored Autocross, finishing just behind Billy Utley.

• Dealer and close friend, Billy Utley, clinched his invite to the season ending event in Las Vegas with a 1st overall in the GTV class in his DSE "Equipped" 1972 Nova

It was another fun weekend full of friends and racing and we eagerly await the next Optima event as it is taking place in our back yard. We look forward to seeing everyone at Charlotte Motor Speedway July 25th - 26th for the next event in the Optima "Search for the Ultimate Street Car" series.

Award: Segmental Retaining Walls - Transportation

Project Location: Carbon Canyon area, Yorba Linda, CA

Square Feet of Project: 70,000

Contractor: Soil Retention Systems, Inc.

Main Product Manufacturer: Soil Retention, Inc.

Project Designer: Soil Retention Designs, Inc.

Approximately 70,000 square feet of segmental retaining wall was installed by Soil Retention Systems. These walls support a secondary access road ascending the steep hillside of an existing water treatment plant facility. Five walls were built, with some walls reaching 40 feet. These walls navigate the site’s rugged and steep topography. The total length of the retaining walls is approximately 2,500 feet. The system was specified due to the plantable wall surface and superior strength which exceed the geotechnical and seismic requirements of the project.

The strength of the wall system allows for heavy equipment to run directly behind it and backfill the geogrid-reinforced soil mass of the structure. Each block has a lip for a positive mechanical connection between the block and the geogrid which creates a strong wall face. The plantable wall face softens its appearance and mitigates environmental impacts to the Chino Hills State Park and surrounding neighborhoods to the south. The access road and retaining walls also serve as a fire-break for the water treatment plant which borders undeveloped and native lands of the state park.
