MY home made 7 segment LED clock. Digits are 1" high. Code written using the Arduino IDE. Compile on an Arduino board, AtMega168 transferred to a custom runtime board using a 32kHz watch crystal.
Peruvian Torch Segments + text
We removed two of the tall branches from our Peruvian Torch cactus plant. Here is an annotated picture of some of pieces of these branches.
This is a photograph from the 3rd annual running of the Trim AC 10 Mile Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 5th February 2017 at 12:00. The race attracted over 1,200 participants which shows a 100% increase on last year's participation. The event shows growth year on year mirroring the growing popularity of the race. The race started on the Trim/Athboy road on the town's ring road and proceded to take an anti-clockwise loop out towards the village of Dunderry and townland of Kilbride before returning back to the Trim Industrial Estate for the finish. The route is held on quiet country roads with some hills at 3, 6, 8 mile segments.

The weather for this year's race was perfect for racing. There was a hard frost overnight but this brought clear bright skies and crisp air. There was no real wind to speak of.
Waterstops were provided at the 4.5 and 7 mile marks on the course. All access roads were well stewarded. The event was sponsored by Bewleys 1840 and many local business establishments. Credit must go to the Trim AC team for their flawless organisation. If the first three years of this year are anything to go on then this race will continue to grow. For runners around the North Leinster area this 10 mile race serves as a perfect training progress stepping stone to the Bohermeen Half Marathon which will take place in March 2016 and is located only 15 minutes drive from Trim.

The explaination is very simple.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. The parts pre-assembly. A small project box houses the LeoStick and RTC. The project box mounts on the back of a "shadow box" picture frame, covering the fairly crude hole through which 6 wires attach to the back of the display module (Embedded Adventure's DSP-0801). The module is mounted on a thin board and floats on some foam rubber. A couple of buttons are mounted on the project box.

So, in a previous session here, we had wondered if the collection of blue and yellow steel would be used to lift precast segments into place. Now we know we were correct.
At full size we can see the lifting frame is rated at 61.5 tonnes.

Day 4 (Segment 28)
random campsite to Bridge site
Segment 28 is the final segment of the Colorado Trail for those who start in Denver, as I did several years ago. It is 21.5 miles to Durango, all ‘downhill’. Not really, but Segment 27 boasts the last time above 12,000 feet. Afternoon thunderstorms wouldn’t be as threatening. The storms I anticipated for today hadn’t materialized but the day wasn’t over.
Getting to the Pass wasn’t too difficult and once there had some nice views of where I had been while taking a short break. Hiking on the other side of the Pass was steep and treacherous in some places. Following a narrow gulch it seemed to take forever to get down.
After 16ish miles for the day, I finally found a flat spot at the Junction Creek bridge. It was loose dirt and although trees were nearby the site did not have direct tree cover. Normally, I wouldn’t be too concerned but I was still thinking about the potential rain. Of course, I did start to hear thunder.

CO (Saguache County)
Day 6 random campsite (Segment 20) to random campsite (Segment 21)
"You have to hike through Pennsylvania to get to the good stuff."
A reference to the Appalachian Trail. PA is nothing spectacular as hiking goes and is mostly known for its abundant rocks. In the summer it is hot and humid and about the only thing going for PA is the halfway point of the AT where long distance hikers have a custom of eating a half-gallon of ice cream.
With the exception (mostly) of the Cochetopa Creek, which I thoroughly enjoyed hiking, this year's hike was nothing spectacular. Long waterless stretches, dirt road walking, cattle country, etc. was all about to change as I headed toward San Luis Peak and above treeline.
I took a break at the saddle in a small depression out of the wind. Another hiker was there who stashed his pack while he climbed San Luis Peak. As mentioned before, San Luis is another 14er and probably the easiest accessible one via the Colorado Trail. The saddle is at 12,612 ft and the Peak is just another 1400' in elevation gain. The 2.5 mile roundtrip would probably take several hours. Maybe another time.
After the saddle, the trail stayed above treeline and crossed a number of additional saddles. I encountered a handful of dayhikers traversing what I call 1/2 fishbowls. You can usually see the footpath on the sidehill as it 1/2 circles around between the saddles. Many dead trees were visible down the valleys which somewhat contributed to the mostly vapid, colorless environment. Nevertheless the views were astounding.
