Caitlin Scotland Wylie
Brighton seafront, 2012.
My Scottish lady enjoying the sunshine south of the border. The blue and white backdrop is fitting with the strong sense of nationalism she displayed later that day. We were sitting in a pub finishing dinner when England played Ukraine in the group stages of Euro 2012, much to her distaste. She was threatening to shout all kinds of obscenities against England as she made a saltire in the foam of her coffee with sugar. The final threat that lead to us leaving the pub was that she would shout 'FREEDOM' if Ukraine scored, seeing as we're both rather small girls the potential onslaught terrified me.
We left at a perfect time to catch the sunset from the beach.
Brighton is a seaside resort and the largest part of the City of Brighton and Hove situated in East Sussex, England. Historically in the Rape of Lewes in Sussex, Brighton forms a part of the Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation. Brighton is at the heart of the Greater Brighton City Region, a partnership of local authorities and other organisations that signifies Brighton's wider regional economic significance.

Hastings to St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex; July 2011; pinhole camera made from a Quality Street tin, 10" x 8" paper negative
This pair of stone carvings by Gardner Molloy were apparently commissioned by a local group to act as aesthetically attractive "bollards" - some people would drive over this spot near Musselburgh Harbour and onto this spot which is actually a beachside path, not for cars. So they commissioned Mr Molloy to take these two stones and create these fishermen sculptures to block the way for cars in the nicest possible way. Nice approach to the problem! Apologies for having to use the flash but this was a very overcast and dull, dark day.
Trampolines on Hastings seafront in 1981.
Not that long ago but there were no worries then about taking street photos that included children.
Scanned from the Olympus OM1 negative.
