The monkey scroll was made in about 1550-70 to celebrate the birth of a grandson to the chief priest of the Hiyoshi shrine at Mt Hiei, near Kyoto. It includes one of the earliest surviving images of serving teas. Here monkeys, who were sacred to the shrine, imitate humans enjoying a banquet. The son-in-law monkey, Yasaburo, bows to his father-in-law, Shibuzane, who pours him sake.

2 of 2 for my In-laws. This is approx. 7" wide, cut out of 1/4" poplar ply! This one I sanded the ply layers away on a taper to give it its appearance.
