M'lady Jasmine was crowned the Rat Queen of the Wyewood Revel 2011. Her name was filled on on site. The scroll composed on marbled vellum. The Lombardic versal H is whimsical in nature, portraying the locked gates of Wyewood Shire sitting on a rat-hole hill in front of a golden piece of cheese. Right now, I am into drolleries, so I came up with this very simple one for this children's scroll. The wave motif at the bottom was originally intended to flow under the castle like the River Wye, but ended up in the bottom right quadrant.

I used this scroll saw, a small American made piece. while I lived in Washington State, rebuilding a house. It was picked up very inexpensively at a flea market. I paid $5, you can see $60 on the table in magic marker,
Picture is of the saw in as found condition, I cleaned and aligned it and it worked well, for trim and other projects.
I gave it to a neighbor when I moved back to IL in August of 2012

Vertical ffs, the width of the scroll appears to retain the dimensions of a violin scroll. Again the volutes engulf the eyes.
I must admit, I had to overcome a certain reluctance to post this. But, after all, beauty is to be found in unexpected places. Is it pretentious to call this Post-Dada?

This scroll was given out at Twelfth Night by TRM Cedric and Elizabeth. It's a beastiary based on the Aberdeen and Ashmole Bestiaries of the 12-13th centuries. Pergamenata, 24k gold leaf, period pigments in gum arabic/honey size, and oak gall ink.
The light can be so nice in our new library with big, panoramic windows built on the second floor above the police station. I've been spending a lot of time there using the computer and even photographing :>)
