Iron Flowers

sluggish, semi-stagnant

the water in Haitian gutters,

small gullets, trickles green,

sewerage green, here even

the dirt is poor and

there is a cloying dullness

camouflaging even strongly

persistent colors

in squared, white walled

cemeteries

funeral flowers are made of

painted iron/ i see no roses

rising through this Port

Au Prince poverty

i hesitate to take pictures

it is like thievery

almost like

i am stealing precious light

that these, my brothers and sister,

need to live

Gateway to a property which I think has been demolished now. Even the stone lions which were on the gate posts have now gone. There's a developer's sign saying they can build a home to your requirements.

One of the many beautiful cast pieces that decorate the facades of the buildings around Sanat Barbara, CA..

Yum Yum…. Custard Scrolls. I fell in love with Custard Scrolls when the bakery franchise ‘Bakers Delight’ started popping up everywhere – quite a few years ago now. The price for the sweet bun has been steadily on the increase and while still a fairly reasonable price I keep thinking I could be making a dozen of them at home for just a little more then the price of one.

The 20th scroll in my Alphabet Challenge: T is for Trencher, which holds many rolls.

M'lady Jasmine was crowned the Rat Queen of the Wyewood Revel 2011. Her name was filled on on site. The scroll composed on marbled vellum. The Lombardic versal H is whimsical in nature, portraying the locked gates of Wyewood Shire sitting on a rat-hole hill in front of a golden piece of cheese. Right now, I am into drolleries, so I came up with this very simple one for this children's scroll. The wave motif at the bottom was originally intended to flow under the castle like the River Wye, but ended up in the bottom right quadrant.

Milo is the most recently appointed Partner in Law firm Windsor & Maverick. Hot shot Milo impressed Senior Partner and law firm founder Callum Windsor with his razor sharp intelligence, prodigious ability to digest copious amounts of complex text and his charismatic courtroom style. When Milo was headhunted by a rival firm, Callum offered him a partnership role and an enticing Golden Handshake (enough to make Milo turn down the rival offer) Sergio is new to the firm, just arrived. His fashionable yet quirky style (city pinstripes with mountain hiking/ski boots) and personable charm has made him the office darling. But what the office doesn't know (yet) is that Milo and Sergio are in a long term relationship which started in law school... will they keep it a secret or let everyone know?

Study of colors and light in my bedroom. I know the focus should be on the scroll and not on the lamp shade but I don't have a camera without the auto focus settings.

The richness of the occasion and the real opulence of an ‘Indian’ styled wedding has been brought out to perfection in this amazing merrun velvet cloth scroll card. Stitched around shining golden bars and tied by a silk tassel, the card is customizable in terms of border, text and design. The card is contained in an velvet cloth box with an additional envelop for postage.

(*The original scroll was unfortunately snowbound in Nova Scotia as Winter Storm Nemo was rolling through the north, and thusly, the airport over there was closed. Guthfrith made it to the event, but alas, the scroll didn't, and I wanted to make sure he went home with the knowledge that his scroll would be waiting for him back home in Ruantallan. Also, in doing a bit of research on the word 'promissory', I came to learn that the term "promissory note" is out of period. To correct this, I figured a document statement in the official sense by the Tyger Clerk (Promise of the Tyger Clerk) would suffice instead. The text is my slightly rushed version of an English secretary hand, done in the royal room at the event, before court.)

The color that catches you attention like no other is blue, the most soothing of tones. This scroll card has leaf image ground and silver and dark blue printed floral border design. The framing bars are blue with silver finish. A silver tassel ties the card. The box envelope has similar design and a silver tassel ties it too.
