The Park locks are two locks in the Dutch province of South Holland, in the shipping route from the Delfshavense Schie to the Nieuwe Maas. They connect the Coolhaven with the Parkhaven in Rotterdam. The waterway is CEMT class III. The Park locks are part of Schieland's main flood defense. The western Grote Parksluis has electrically driven roller doors that run on rails. The door cases are located between the two lock chambers. The eastern Kleine Parksluis has lifting doors, which are designed as a quadrant and are electrically driven via gears.
For Alex! ;-)
I was only passing by on my way home - through 'historic' Delfshaven, but I couldn't resist taking a few shots! I know, I know it's postcards stuff - but hey! people might like it and it's from 1650 AD! ;-)

The Pieter de Hoochbrug is a double bascule bridge from 1932 in the Delfshaven district in the Dutch municipality of Rotterdam. It is a bridge over the Coolhaven dug in 1922, the connection between the Nieuwe Maas and the Delfshavense Schie. The bridge is an extension of the Pieter de Hoochweg.
The bridge is named after the Rotterdam painter Pieter de Hooch.
The Coolhaven metro station is located next to the bridge. Since April 3, 2008, the War Resistance Museum has been located under the bridge on the side of the metro station.[1]
The bridge was renovated in 2004. At that time, the bridge was also closed to pedestrians. During the closure, a ferry operated between the metro station and the quay on the south side on working days. During the renovation, the barriers on the northern side of the bridge were placed on the bridge deck of the northern bascule bridge. Only the southern bascule bridge will be opened.
Since 2009, on the northern abutment of the bridge, to the east of the embankment, is the sculpture The Shadow by Onno Poiesz.

The former Van Nelle Factory (Dutch: Van Nellefabriek) on the Schie river in Rotterdam, is considered a prime example of the International Style (see also Constructivism). It has been a designated World Heritage Site since 2014.
The buildings were designed by architect Leendert van der Vlugt from the Brinkman & Van der Vlugt office in cooperation with civil engineer J.G. Wiebenga, at that time a specialist for constructions in reinforced concrete, and built between 1925 and 1931. It is an example of Nieuwe Bouwen, modern architecture in the Netherlands.
In the 20th century it was a factory, processing coffee, tea and tobacco and later on additional chewing gum, cigarettes, instant pudding and rice. The operation stopped in 1996. Currently it houses a wide variety of new media and design companies and is known as the Van Nelle Design Factory ("Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek" in Dutch).

Yesterday evening (during my evening photoshoot, later more - maybe not) my left pinkie got so cold, it still hurts and it's a little numb too! :-( So I'm at home processing, instead of shooting outside!
The shot above is a bit dark(ish), yet I like the *atmosphere*. Here large boats take a 90 degrees turn to make it past the bridge!
The cool thing about snow is you can visit all your favourite spots again, and shoot your shots in a whole new world! :-) Have a nice weekend!

The former Van Nelle Factory (Dutch: Van Nellefabriek) on the Schie river in Rotterdam, is considered a prime example of the International Style. It has been a designated World Heritage Site since 2014.
History
The buildings were designed by architect Leendert van der Vlugt from the Brinkman & Van der Vlugt office in cooperation with civil engineer J.G. Wiebenga, at that time a specialist for constructions in reinforced concrete, and built between 1925 and 1931. It is an example of Nieuwe Bouwen, modern architecture in the Netherlands. It was commissioned by the co-owner of the Van Nelle company, Kees van der Leeuw, on behalf of the owners. Kees van der Leeuw and both company-directors, Matthijs de Bruyn and Bertus Sonneveld, were so impressed by the skills of Van der Vlugt that they commissioned him to design and build private houses for themselves in Rotterdam and nearby Schiedam between 1928 and 1932. The fully renovated Sonneveld House is now a museum in the centre of Rotterdam, with more than 30.000 annual visitors from all over the world.
In the 20th century it was a factory, processing coffee, tea and tobacco and later on additional chewing gum, cigarettes, instant pudding and rice. Currently it houses a wide variety of new media and design companies and is known as the Van Nelle Design Factory ("Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek" in Dutch). Some of the areas are used for meetings, conventions and events.
Eric Gude, a Dutch specialist in the conversion of former industrial sites, planned and organized this change of use for the Van Nelle factory in 1997 and introduced Wessel De Jonge, an authority on the renovation of modern architecture in 1999, to coordinate the overall renovation, which began in the year 2000.
Architecture
The Van Nelle Factory shows the influence of Russian constructivism. Mart Stam, who worked during 1926 as employee-designer at the Brinkman & Van der Vlugt office in Rotterdam, came in contact with the Russian Avant-Garde in 1922 in Berlin. In 1926 Mart Stam organized an architecture tour of the Netherlands for the Russian artist El Lissitzky and his wife Sophie Küppers, collector of avant-garde art. They visited Jacobus Oud, Cornelis van Eesteren, Gerrit Rietveld, and other artists. Sophie Küppers stated that Mart Stam spoke about 'his' factory during that trip. That happened to be the immediate cause for his dismissal.[citation needed]
National monument
The Van Nelle Factory is a Dutch national monument (Rijksmonument) and since 2014 has the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Justification of Outstanding Universal Value was presented in 2013 to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
The Beukelsbrug is a steel bascule bridge over the Delfshavense Schie in the Rotterdam borough of Delfshaven.
Before the opening of the Beukelsbrug there was a ferry connection.
The Beukelsbrug was opened in 1966 and forms the connection between the Beukelsweg and the Aelbrechtskade in the New West and the Horvathweg to Schiedam. In addition to the Delfshavense Schie, the Beukelsbrug also crosses the Abraham van Stolkweg and the Spangesekade at ground level.
The Beukelsbrug has 2x2 lanes for car traffic and a footpath that ends in stairs on both sides of the bridge. Cyclists were forgotten during the construction of the bridge. The bridge has a wide median strip that was once conceived for a tram connection. However, this connection was never established. The bridge has a large bridge keeper's house, but is now remotely controlled.
Thanks to military practice, we have an amazing meadow here with many rare protected plants and animals. Strange, isn't it?
Near the city Augsburg, along the river Lech is the floodplain forest called Siebentischwald.
In 1880 a little area of the forest was cleared for military purposes, as a rifle range for shooting exercises. No civil persons could access the area till 1980. In the 100 years, all kinds of rare plants settled here, being undisturbed.
See it here on Google Maps.
Today this meadow is part of the Siebentischwald nature reserve.
The red flowers on the image are actually a subshrub, called rose daphne. Closeups coming up.
The Eastern Gate (Oostpoort) in Delft, an example of Brick Gothic northern European architecture, was built around 1400. Around 1510 the towers were enhanced with an additional octagonal floor and high spires. This is the only city gate remaining in Delft; the others were demolished in the 19th century. It currently serves as an art gallery and private residence.
Luuk (stranger 38)
Rotterdam also has its High Lane (at least it could become one). It starts in Spangen, where an old railway slope runs from the Schie to Marconiplein. There it continues as Dakpark. Nature can take its course on the railway slope. There are still some remnants of the rails and signal posts and there is a narrow path. Luuk flipped the thorns away from the blackberries hanging over the path. That's the only thing he thinks should happen. Let nature take its course. He has been coming there for ten years and first had to do his best to remove all the fences. And if it's up to the municipality, they regularly come by to prune everything rigorously with large mowers. But he managed to stop that. He doesn't like the Dakpark further on, it has been laid out. They have even put odor poles there to chase the rabbits away. Delicious ripe blackberries are now growing on the slope.
