Onlangs is de sluis geheel gerenoveerd. Niet dat hij nog een functie heeft want de verbinding van de vaart met de Delftse Schie is al jaren geleden gedempt. Het zal wel alleen voor het plaatje gedaan zijn. Bij deze dan!

The former Van Nelle Factory (Dutch: Van Nellefabriek) on the Schie river in Rotterdam, is an important historic industrial building in the world.
The buildings were designed by architect Leendert van der Vlugt from the Brinkman & Van der Vlugt office in cooperation with civil engineer J.G. Wiebenga, at that time a specialist for constructions in reinforced concrete, and built between 1925 and 1931. It is an example of Nieuwe Bouwen, modern architecture in the Netherlands.
In the 20th century it was a factory, processing coffee, tea and tobacco and later on additional chewing gum, cigarettes, instant pudding and rice. Currently it houses a wide variety of new media and design companies and is known as the Van Nelle Design Factory ("Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek" in Dutch). Some of the areas are used for meetings, conventions and events.
The Van Nelle Factory shows the influence of Russian constructivism.
The Van Nelle Factory is a Dutch national monument (Rijksmonument) and is on the list of sites under consideration for the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site (Tentative list). The Justification of Outstanding Universal Value will be presented 2013 to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
In June 2014 it was added to the Unesco list of world heritage sites.

In the early 1950s GAZ developed a successor for the GAZ-67B which was more economical in use. Technics were taken from the GAZ-M20 Pobeda. An in-house team led by Grigoriy Vasserman was responsible for the design.
In the firste three production years the GAZ-69 was made at GAZ. From 1956 till the end this AWD vehicle was made by UAZ.
Most GAZ-69 vehicles were used by the military. Over 20 international countries made use of it (like 4400 units in Indonesia).
Here it was used as a publicity vehicle for car trader Garage Van Schie.

Een ‘tempel’ was een voorwerp dat gebruikt werd om een sluis, in dit geval in de Schie, geopend te houden, zodat water kon worden doorgelaten. Het landgoed is gelegen aan de Schie, een belangrijke waterloop met een rijke geschiedenis. In de Middeleeuwen was het een belangrijke plek voor de handel en dit groeide in de Gouden Eeuw uit tot een belangrijk trekvaartenknooppunt. De trekvaart, ook wel de intercity van de Gouden Eeuw, speelde een onmisbare rol in het vervoeren van personen. Het park van het landgoed is gratis toegankelijk voor bezoekers, van zonsopgang tot zonsondergang.

Delft, gemeente , western Netherlands. It lies along the canalized Schie River between Rotterdam and The Hague. Founded in 1075 and chartered in 1246, it was severely damaged by fire in 1536 and by the explosion of a powder magazine in 1654. Delft was a trade centre in the 16th and 17th centuries and was famous for its tin-glazed earthenware, or delftware, but was superseded in trade by Rotterdam in the 18th century. Principal manufactures are now ceramics, spirits, oils, penicillin, yeast, and machinery.

Vandaag weer eens een poging gedaan voor de staaltrein van Beverwijk naar Kijfhoek. Keurig op tijd zien we hier de trein bij de voormalige aansluiting RMO (rechter maasoever) en passeert over een ogenblik de brug over de Delfshavense Schie. Helaas betrof het alleen een losse loc, dit omdat de trein via Bad Bentheim wordt omgeleid in plaats van via Emmerich.

Reprocessed this one too, at 40cm x 60cm. Curious if the extreme contrasts 'work' on large print!
All my large photo files for my exhibition went to the printer this morning, 6 files of 40cm x 60cm, 18 files of 30cm x 45cm. Pfff, a lot of hard work went into those files! Checking everything at 100% with a magnifier - at least that's what it feels like. :)

I witnessed an amazing pre-sunset yesterday, went home too early when the skies closed. Half an hour before sunset it turned into something fabulous, a pink and blue dream.
The shot above looks more like a nightmare! ;-) It's quite a *bit* over the top - I know - but I like the drama to be honest. This is my favourite spot in Overschie, in case you didn't notice, hehe. ;-)

Sold in 1985 to Richard Kraus and renamed CLAUS L. Renamed PEDRO DE SULA in 1986 under Honduran flag but retaining Hamburg as port of registry. Renamed ANNELIESE in 1987 and transferred to Antiguan flag, then the flag of St. Vincent. Grounded on Texel 26 February 1989 on voyage from Wismar to Gunness with potash and broken up in situ by Fa. Van Schie Sloopwerk of Schiedam in April 1990.

History Estate The Temple
The first mention of the house De Tempel dates from 1485 when Gillis van Cralingen, lord of Wassenaer, lent his nephew Jan van Cralingen the craft Sluipwijk and the homestead De Tempel. The name De Tempel probably derives from the medieval 'temple'. A 'temple' was an object that was used to keep a sluice, in this case in the Schie, open, so that water could pass through.
Along the Schie and Trekvaarten
The estate is located on the Schie, an important watercourse with a rich history. In the Middle Ages it was an important place for trade and in the Golden Age it grew into an important barge junction. The barge canal, also known as the intercity of the Golden Age, played an indispensable role in the transport of people and goods.
Oorspronkelijk was Delfshaven een onderdeel van Delft. In 1795 werd het een zelfstandige gemeente, om in 1886 door Rotterdam geannexeerd te worden.
Delfshaven ontstond in 1389, toen de Delfshavense Schie werd gegraven om de stad Delft een verbinding met de Maas te geven. Sindsdien konden de schepen vanuit Delft via de Delftse en Delfshavense Schie de Nieuwe Maas bereiken. Rondom de sluis ontstond het havenstadje 'Delfshaven'.
