Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers of the genus Dacelo native to Australia and New Guinea, which grow to between 28–42 cm in length. The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call. The loud distinctive call of the laughing kookaburra is widely used as a stock sound effect in situations that involve an Australian bush setting or tropical jungle, especially in older movies. They are found in habitats ranging from humid forest to arid savanna, as well as in suburban areas with tall trees or near running water. Even though they belong to the larger group known as kingfishers, kookaburras are not closely associated with water. Kookaburras are almost exclusively carnivorous, eating mice, snakes, insects, small reptiles, and the young of other birds; unlike many other kingfishers, they rarely eat fish, although they have been known to take goldfish from garden ponds. In zoos they are usually fed food for birds of prey. 2393

These two chicks looked like they were hatching a cunning plan.
On July 25, 2022, Union Pacific formally announced a makeover of its classic Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray paint scheme. The first unit to receive the new look was SD70ACe No. 8620. Its first assignment was to lead the MNPRO 25 (North Platte - Roper) manifest, pictured in Roy, Utah on the Salt Lake Subdivision the morning of July 28, 2022.

After many many many grey, rainy weekends, on Sunday we got our first sunny weekend day in months. High on my list was the "Ersatzverkehr" between Hanau and Giessen in Hessen. Due to a shortage of EMUs, DB has hired replacement trains from CentralBahn AG to fill in. The actual rolling stock is leased from DB Gebrauchtzug, the recently created division which offers older locomotives and wagons for sale or lease. A number of locomotives have received retro schemes worn by locomotives of the class in the past or in a few cases semi-fictional schemes. So the stock has been mainly leased to other branches of DB, another creative accounting tricks probably. Anyways.....
After an early 4:40 AM wake up call I headed out by train towards the Main-Wetzlar Bahn. At Frieberg I boarded the replacement train behind the retro 111-174 and got down at Kirch-Göns. After about a 40 minute wait the set returned south in the perfect morning sun light. A great start to what would be a productive day.

We've driven by this wreck more times then I care to admit and never stopped to grab a photo. On today's occasion we were on our way back from testing our mettle in the extreme cold at Niagara Falls and finally decided to stop. The ice offered a perspective we hadn't seen before and the sun came out for a few minutes to provide some contrast against the snowy sky we were driving back in to.
I believe the ship is known as La Grande Hermine or alternatively, The Big Weasel - although I'm not sure where the latter came from. Like most grand schemes, there is a colorful history to it and if you're interested, check out the link below.

245 004 climbs up the ramp up to Hindenburg dam, having RE 11022 (Hamburg-Altona - Westerland) in tow. The red color of the loco is a very welcomed color accent, that was only possible due to the general susceptibility to errors of this type of locos. To replace defective locos, ones from other parts of Germany had to help out, which are wearing the traditional red color scheme, instead of the local color scheme of blue and turquoise.

Amtrak 108 dressed up in a 50th Anniversary paint scheme leads the eastbound Pennsylvanian through Huntingdon, PA.
Taken approx 30 minutes before actual sunrise.
The light has started to show, and a bright streak started to show its face.
The reservoir scheme in the Greenfield Valley and Chew Valley by the Ashton-Under-Lyne, Stalybridge and Dukinfield Waterworks Joint Committee commenced in 1870. The scheme was completed with Dovestone Reservoir in 1968 to collect water from the surrounding moorland.
The main contractor was A.E. Farr (Civil Engineers) of Westbury, Wiltshire. Its construction was opposed by local mill owners, who claimed that damming the river would cut off their water supply.
