Beans, they are so easy to grow and so nice to eat. At the end of the growing you can save some seed for next year. You get all this then for nothing!

It is all a bit silly really as we have enough beans here to plant a field of them next year, but there is something about popping beans out of their pods that "once you pop you cannot stop" as the TV ad keeps telling me. T&J certainly enjoyed it all. We have here a mixture of runner beans and french beans. The smaller black ones are sweet peas, as you can see not all of them were fully ready as they are green and far from dried. These have gone into the airing cupboard for a while.

The beans are now in paper envelopes in a dry dark place in the garage, away from any mice and ready for next year.

Melinda and I saved a cat this week. Ever since we lost our pet parakeet and had him returned to us a week later we try to do the same for animals we find near our home. THis week we came across a possibly pregnant cat who was very friendly towards us. We couldn't just let the cat stay out on its own, especially since it had no claws to defend itself with. We kept it overnight until we could turn it over to the humane society. Hopefully whoever lost their cat has found it, and if not hopefully someone will get a very friendly cat as a new pet.

I did not take this picture but I did make that entire outfit except for the shoes.

Many are trying save some money on their purchases nowadays. Coupons have long been known as a great method of saving people money for years. The article will help educate you on the virtues of using coupons.

Never purchase an item exclusively because you found a great coupon for it. It's very easy for people to actually spend more money shopping with coupons since they end up buying items they don't need. Just use coupons on items you plan on buying anyway to prevent investing unnecessary money.

Try using your coupons during a BOGO sale. You get one item free and then a good price on the other purchase. You could end up paying less than even a fourth of the original cost.

Shop at local stores that predominantly use coupons to help maximize your savings. If you can find a grocery store that accepts competitor's coupons and offers double coupon days, you have found your go to store!

They may have deals in place that you subscribe and order a certain number of Sunday papers each week.

Many people turn to dumpster diving when they are hungry for more coupons, and it has become quite acceptable to do that these days. You will be shocked to see that many people throw the coupons away.

Do not allow couponing monopolize your life. Looking through circulars and cutting those coupons can take up a lot of time. Take some time a estimate how much you save each hour, and decide whether your time is truly worth that sum of money.

Try to accumulate coupons for items you will utilize. This allows you from overspending on unneeded products simply because you found a coupon. Buying items that you don't want or need is what some people stop using coupons altogether for. This strategy will also assist with keeping your coupons much better organized.

Some places will allow you to use double or triple coupons. Ask your local grocery stores do this. You can even ask people in different locations.

Don't buy every product because you happen have a coupon. This is a great way to overspend instead of products that you will never use. It may be a great deal that is staring you in the face, but if you will not use the product, you've lost money.

Ask family and friends to save inserts for you from magazine subscriptions and newspapers. This will give you to multiply your savings.

Although this may work out well for lots of people, other coupon-organizing options include laying out coupons according to the aisles in the grocery store you shop at or organizing coupons according to expiration date. Use whatever organizational method that works best for you.

Don't do yourself solely to newspaper coupon circulars. Coupons can be found in many forms in technology. There are plenty of websites that offer printable coupons.

Look for a deal website that make it easy to aggregate coupons and offers from various retailers' websites and ads. This is useful if you time instead of coupons and do not know how to use them.

Before you buy something on the Internet, take a few minutes to search for coupon codes. A lot of retailers offer coupon codes that you save when purchasing their items. Use your favorite search engine to quickly find a coupon code.Use the year and month so that you can find coupons and offers.

There are a thousand benefits to finding coupons regularly. With the knowledge gained from this article, you too can begin using coupons to help stretch your budget. Use what you have learned to help get you started on the road to savings success. Using coupons is fun and practical at the same time. www.woohoodiscounts.com/

Rock band Saving Abel takes time out to pose for a photo during a tour of an aircraft conducted by an airmen stationed at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Feb. 22, 2010. This is the band's first USO tour. USO photo by Mike Clifton

I shopped at the Real Canadian Superstore located at 2901 8th Street East at around 10:45 pm on Monday night. Someone bought some seafood and left this receipt behind, which happened to fall in with the requirements for the coupon, pictured below.

From the autumn 2016 trip to Vietnam:

Wednesday morning, October 5, the second day in Hoi An. The previous night, we arranged to tag along with a half day bus tour to My Son. (For any Chinese reading this, “My Son” comes from the Chinese…”meishan/美山”…which translates to “beautiful mountain for any English speakers reading this…which I’ll guess is everyone since I primarily write in English.)

I forget how much we paid, but I think it was 400,000 VND (~$20)/person for a small, private bus/van with a guide to come pick us up at our hotel at 8:30 – after a wonderful breakfast on the balcony – and we made our way the hour or so to My Son.

It’s not too far from Hoi An; I think I remember reading that it’s around 60 km away, so I’m not quite sure why it took an hour to get there. We stopped at 3-4 other hotels to pick up others – mostly Chinese tourists – before heading out of town. Even with that, it seemed to take a little longer than justified by the stated distance, since the roads are in great condition, in addition to having very little traffic. Really, though, this isn’t a complaint. I enjoyed seeing the countryside on the way out to My Son.

If you’ve seen my other collection from Siem Reap, you’ll know how much I love these thousand-plus year-old temples, so when I read about My Son – the capital of the Champa kingdom which ruled southern Vietnam roughly from Danang down to the southern tip of Indochina, I had to include this side trip.

Now, you absolutely cannot (or should not) compare this with the Angkor complex, and I won’t mention why here. If you can avoid comparisons, you’ll find a wonderful, small complex here. From the parking lot, you go to the very nice and informative Visitors’ Center to learn about the temples (what’s left of them) and a little of the Champa history.

After a few minutes orienting yourself to the surroundings, you walk to a bus stop and take an open bus two kilometers up the hill to the ruins. From there, you can take a loop trail – probably about a kilometer in total, if not a little farther – to see all of the ruins.

The temples aren’t named. They’re simply called “Group A, Group A1, Group B, Group C,” and so on. Group A, for example, would have a central temple and a handful of smaller ruins surrounding it. The groups are so small/condensed that it’s actually hard to know where one ends and another begins – especially with Groups A, B, and C. After a 10-15 minute walk from the bus stop, and immediately before arriving at the ruins, you pass a pavilion where they have cultural shows – which we saw – with singing and dancing, and also a concession stand/souvenir shop.

I really loved the little show and, hopefully, some of the pictures turned out well enough. It also wasn’t terribly long; about 30 minutes or so. After that, our guide finally took us through the various temples, or what’s left of them.

Sadly, many of these were destroyed – almost beyond repair – during the Vietnam War by the U.S. bombers. Sometimes, after bombing, they would follow up with Hueys and really finish things off. A French archaeologist apparently had to write a letter to President Nixon to beg him to stop destroying this particular area.

With those sad thoughts in mind, you wander around and see some rather demolished ruins, but also some renovations – almost all renovated with very, very little of the original left – but, you don’t get the feeling that this is a bad thing.

We finished at My Son and were on the bus back to Hoi An sometime around 1:00. We arrived no later than 2:00 and went straight out to get a wonderful local lunch that, for me, included a White Rose.

After lunch, we spent the rest of the day exactly as we did the day before, wandering around the exceptionally photogenic Old Town just to relax, shoot pictures, and have dinner. The weather was gorgeous for the entire day, so things turned out rather well.

That’s all for the two days in Hoi An. I would gladly come back to this town. However, the following morning, we would have another (identical) breakfast to today before bidding farewell to Madame An, Jean, and the rest of the fantastic staff at the Hoang Trinh Hotel. The Easy Riders – Mr. Trung and Mr. Trong’s nephew – would show up at exactly 8:30, as punctual as they promised – and we’d begin a new day wandering around central Vietnam on our way to Hue.

As always, thanks for dropping by and viewing these pictures. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments and I’ll answer as I have time.

Note: The historic Life Saving Station was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. These photos are of all that remains.

What is now the Takanassee Beach Club was originally known as U.S. Life-Saving Station #5. It is a rare survivor from the era of frequent shipwrecks, when sand bars, shallow waters, and winter storms made the waters of New Jersey treacherous to the busy coastwise trade. In 1900 New Jersey contained 42 life saving stations situated three and a half miles apart between Sandy Hook and Cape May. From September to May their crews patrolled the beaches nightly looking for ships at peril. From this root the United States Coast Guard grew, but today only a few of the stations survive.

This property still has its three original buildings, and each, only moderately altered, is an architectural gem. The oldest, a handsome stick style building with prominent decorative trusses in each gable, was built in 1878-79 after a model designed for the 1876 Philadelphia centennial exhibition. The second building is shingle style, designed cica 1897 as living quarters for the life-saving crew. The third building from 1903 lies closest to the beach. It is a one-story, shingled boathouse with a tall square lookout tower facing the ocean. All three of the buildings are the only ones in New Jersey. No other location in the United States retains as many original Life-Saving Service buildings.

Deactivated by the Coast Guard in 1928, it subsequently became the Takanassee Beach Club. Today the former U.S. Life-Saving Station #5, is in need of rescue itself. What no northeaster or hurricane accomplished in 135 years, a developer’s bulldozer could soon achieve. The site is under threat of demolition for a proposed townhouse development, although the project is currently on hold pending environmental review. The prospective builder has only offered to move the buildings.

The buildings of Life-Saving Station #5 are irreplaceable survivors of an earlier at the shore. PNJ thinks preserving them at their original sites through some form of adaptive use should be the highest priority, to avoid losing these unique reminders of our maritime heritage.

Assemblyman Sean Kean organized a forum to discuss the future of the Beach Club property. Those interested in the preservation of the property are working with the Assemblyman to try and secure funds from various resources such as the Green Acres to be able to purchase the property.

Trophy from the Queensboro KC, for Best of Breed, October 24, 1992.

The Old Harbor Life Saving Station was moved from Chatam to Race Point Beach in 1977 to be preserved as a museum to document the harsh life of the men who were stationed there. They were patrolling the Atlantic beaches every night and would attempt rescue if they saw any ships in distress. They saved thousands of life and became part of the Coast Guard in 1915.

I love it when he makes this face - you can sort of see his tongue on his left side.

One day he hoisted his sail and went out to sea to face the fight.

A storm broke the mast - it was easy prey.

Immersed - drowned - the crew lost.

A kiss of life promised ...... and rescue brought.
