Water Sampling Station New York City

Water Sampling Station for potable water supply to the Settlement.

"The natural setting and cooler temperature of the valley were ideal for leprosy patients, who are sensitive to heat. Water, which came from a reservoir, was subjected to monthly bacteriological and chemical tests." - The Star Online August 21, 2007; Living legacy BY LIM YONG LONG

Album Type: Finao ONE

Cover: ICE

Album Page Style: Pearl Magazine Pages, Creased

Designed with Sallee Auto Album, Damask Background by Me.

This is a sample picture taken with Fujifilm X100 camera.

This 5-mm-wide sample holder features a flat platform for attaching a sample of material, surrounded by three suspended chip sensors that are connected via gold wires to the sample. The sensors include one heater (white in appearance) to supply heat to the sample, and two thermometers (gold in appearance) to measure that heat as it travels through the sample. This sample holder was designed and assembled by Shermane Benjamin.

Small mammals such as white-footed mice are an important host to nymphal black-legged ticks. These mammals are also reservoirs of tick-borne disease, including Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis and Anaplasmosis. Therefore, surveys of small mammals can provide informative counts and phenology of ticks in an area. NYS IPM staff was fortunate to meet with scientists from The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, NY to learn trapping and processing techniques for small rodents.

Mice are grabbed by the scruff for visual inspection of ticks on the head.

Weathered hydrothermal quartz-pyrite vein rock from Montana, USA.

Hydrothermal veins are fractures filled with one or more minerals precipitated from hot fluids. The most common vein-filling minerals are quartz and calcite. This rock sample is composed of whitish-gray quartz (SiO2 - silicon dioxide) and brassy gold pyrite (FeS2 - iron sulfide). The yellowish and brownish areas are weathering stains.

This sample is from a vein that intruded quartz monzonite host rocks. The country rock is called the Butte Quartz Monzonite, a Late Cretaceous-aged (76 Ma) igneous intrusion that occurs throughout the Butte, Montana area. Hydrothermal mineralization occurred during the latest Cretaceous to earliest Tertiary (~62-66 Ma). Veins are abundant in the Butte region and range from very thin veinlets to veins 20 feet wide. They are often composed of economically-significant minerals and have been targeted by mining since the late 1800s.

Locality: old tailings pile in Woodville Canyon, northeast of town of Butte, southwestern Montana, USA (46° 01’ 19.75” North, 112° 27’ 58.90” West)

‘Scene’ at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre

Work in Progress

on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

Located at Ruddington, which lies five miles to the South of Nottingham.

It is also home to the ‘Great Central Railway-Nottingham’.

A large site which houses an extensive collection of vintage buses as well as standard gauge and miniature railway vehicles and artefacts.

Originally a station on the ‘Great Central Railway’ extension line that linked Sheffield with London via Nottingham and Leicester.

We are all used to seeing immaculately restored veteran and vintage vehicles but

it’s not often we get to see what the restorers have to work on.

Here is just a sample.

This is a sample storyboard I came up with today. I'm in the process of creating a new website and I want to offer more products. cc welcome.

Sample woven in crackle for fabric to recover aging ottoman - definitely not the green . . . perhaps the grey/brown??? Maybe if I wove the pattern in black on a warmer brown warp. Hmmmm.

small sample using seeding, cross stitch & knots to explore the mix of the different colours. Loved this header card way of mounting. The small pic was on the back of the card I used as my design so I added this over some black 'running' stitch lines.

We put some paint samples up on the back of the garage today to try out possible new colors. From left we've got dancing green, jardin, kiwi, and romaine. There was some significant excitement and disappointment about them so far, but there is a clear frontrunner. We won't make our final decision until we can see them with the sun out, though. Ooh, the suspense!
