Christmas sampler has all our favorite things about the holiday: Santa, reindeer, Christmas tree, gingerbread men, and home.
Stitched on 22ct. aida, the edges are fringed to make a frame. The picture is open (not framed), with a felt backing and starched to help with rigidity. Finished size is 6" wide by 4 3/8" tall.
I simplified the middle by cutting it into a single strip instead of three squares. Honestly, though, I'm not really happy with this one. The colors don't pop at all for me, and I'd really like some more 'oomph'. I'll probably end up re-piecing this one.

I stitched this sampler for my brother and sister in law for their anniversary and then did just the bottom part of it again for a gift for my parents. Hardanger isn't hard to do, but is more advanced that cross stitch. The basis of Hardanger lies in creating blocks of satin stitched areas. The fabric within the blocks can then be cut - yes, cut - and filled in with specialty stitching or just left open. This method of stitching comes from Norway. It looks a lot like lace and is achieved by using satin stitch to form blocks or squares.

Too late for June, so I guess it will be in the August Sampler.
Little illustrated bear bookmarks decorated with flower beads.
I loved a picture of samples of knitting patterns in the Rae Compton’s Complete Book of Traditional Knitting. So I used up some mohair and a few scraps of other soft wool and made this hairy jumper.
Made at the rope walk at Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, this was displayed at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. I liked this because it reminded me of the rope samplers done by Tubbs Cordage, which are in the museum collection of San Francisco Maritime NHP. museum.nps.gov/ParkObjdet.aspx?rID=SAFR%20%20%2019264%26d...
Poor photo, I know; the lights were reflecting badly on this piece. This was in the NPS visitor center.
Sampler 3 (Burning Shed 2007, bshed0702). With Hugh Hopper's "Craig's distended train ride" (from "The Stolen Hour")
A knitting sampler, knitted last night and about to be frogged. I used the yarn that I got from the Biggan Dups class on Continental Knitting at the iKnit Weekender. It is DK weight 100% Australian Merino Wool and a delight to knit with. All of this stitch patterns were worked from "400 Knitting Stitches: Great Stitch Patterns" (Murdoch Books) - except the "heel stitch" which I found on www.thedietdiary.com/blog/lucia/525 - and the stitch names and page numbers can be seen in the 'notes' as you hover over the photos on their flickr page.
This project has been my take along project forever. I finished it July 21st. I love the over 1 monkeys and the verse makes me smile. That green yard, well it almost killed me. If I ever seen another skein of DMC 368 I will runaway screaming!

Cross-stitched quotes from various romance novels in the style of traditional and modern samplers.
Finished! I had a hard time taking nice photos of it, but these will do. Maybe when the weather finally dries out, I'll try a few outside.
