Detail of a sewing sampler from Mount Gambier. The sampler is of fine calico bound at the ends with pink ribbon. There are rows of tucks, hem top and bottom, an applied strip in the centre, which are all hand stitched with fine running and back stitches.

I made this cross-stitch sampler many years ago. It hangs in our breakfast room (where we eat all our meals at home), to remind us to thank the Lord for each day He gives us.
Featuring chicken scratch, closed herringbone stitch, tete-de-boeuf stitch, star stitch and eyelet wheels.

Sampler like the one hanging in Bella's room. This one is dated 1879, but Bella's was done in 1865. It was very common for girls to do samplers like this as a way to learn needlepoint.
