Pianin pianino procedo con il mio sempler, spero questa sera di poter finire... ma ho i miei dubbi..
Needlework sampler from the Georgian Manor House at Beamish open air museum, County Durham, England.
Deschutes Brewery...did the tourist thing with a visiting friend this weekend. I really liked the visual (and taste) of the beer sampler. The OR 151 was icky, though.
Dated 1697, my mother was looking through a box of old stuff with Grandma (her mother) and this old grungy faded looking embroidery looked interesting to her. Mom asked if anyone had asked for it and grandma said no, Did I want it? Mom actually washed it with mild detergent and much later discovered the date, and then of course, got the word from the Friesmuseum that it was probably authentic. The family came from Witmarsum, Friesland.
I decided to experiment with herringbone stitch in a variety of threads, stranded variegated cotton, perle 5 and wool.
The last 2 rows are two rows of herringbone worked on top of each other, the last is varigated green and purple perle, the row above pink and purple dmc fine wool/
I made this for my second child, Rachel. I had so many subtle color changes! It took me about six months to complete. It is done in counted cross stitch.

I'm new to satin stitching, and I'm pretty proud of this little "e." : ) I made a handful of "template" stitches throughout each section to give me a guide, and then filled in with stitches in between the guidelines. Worked pretty well!

Wanting to update more of my projects on Ravelry.com. Another afghan made many years ago, before my daughters were even born. This afghan has kept us warm and had survived a lot of times in the washing machine. If I ever make it again, I will use better quality yarn.

On Sunday we went to a car boot - just to look for hand sewing machines for 'Tools with a Mission'. All we found was a long spirit level for £2.50, but then just as we were leaving I spotted this little embroidery on a junk stall.
Now I've watched enough 'Bargain Hunts' to know that the date, and the age of the child who's worked it, is everything, so,although tiny, I managed to read
Ann ......Worked in the Fourteenth Year of Her Age 1762'.
Was on the verge of collapse by this time, especially as the stall holder had marked it at £12, and was prepared to accept a tenner!
Yesterday we took it to Bamford's in Matlock to one of their Valuation Days - which was a great experience. One glance from the valuer when it eventually became my turn, and he said
'Print of an old sampler' and all our hopes of fame and fortune were dashed!
Never mind it had been great fun while it lasted!
