"MosaicMontageMonday"

oct 2024

Wildlife photography is truly fun, getting on scene and observing the animals, taking hundreds upon hundreds of photos attempting to get one shot out of the bunch. Of course being September, this is in the middle of the rut, and keeping your distance is a priority, with that in mind I pop on my teleconverter longest lens and wait. It doesn’t take long, the animals are running around, making calls, the males chasing each other, the ladies acting like they don’t know these guys. I was between two groups, the largest bull was over near these buildings… the younger males staying to the other side of the open field. I had my choice of photos and compositions. Just had to be patient, and get the shots.

This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Rustic Orange. I like the way Mark King uses Rustic Orange throughout his painting "Foyer Des Artists". The two swimming geese seem to like it too. HMMM!

It will become a Rustic Sphinx Moth, Manduca rustica (Sphingidae). It is found in the southern parts of the United States, southward through Mexico, Central America and South America to Uruguay. The larvae feed on Jasminum and Bignonia species and other plants of the families Verbenaceae, Convolvulaceae, Lamiaceae and Boraginaceae. It can live on many types of native and exotic plants.

The species is widespread and adaptable, living in varied habitats from rainforests to deserts and thriving in urban and disturbed habitats. (Wikipedia)

Looking thru the window of an old heritage building in East Van, BC.

This felt like a real treasure, when I found this barn! Just particular barns seem to stand out to me, and this one in particular! I especially love the brick silo: It looks so rustic and picturesque next to the fall colors. Hope you all enjoy!

Chances are if you visit this church, the only congregants you'll find are the local squirrels.

St. Stephen's is located deep in the woods down a long and windy gravel road (about thirty minutes away from the nearest populated area). That wasn't always the case though.

Before Lake Barkley and the Land Between the Lakes (LBL) recreation area was created, many small communities thrived in these parts. When Lake Barkley was created in 1964, the families living in this area had to relocate as their homes would be flooded. Those who didn't relocate would have their property taken by eminent domain to complete the LBL recreational area.

Going back to the church, St. Stephen's was built in 1900 and held it's last service sometime around 1942. The church was vacant for about 20 years before the TVA acquired the property to create LBL. During LBL's development, nearly all of the remaining structures in the area were demolished. However, St. Stephens survived for reasons unknown.

The church was restored in the year 2000 and the property is maintained by volunteers. The original access road was destroyed when Lake Barkley was formed. However, the church can still be visited by driving down a one-lane forest service road.

Golden autumn leaves in October 2018. The season is in full swing, rustic colours are all around and when the sun shines and the sky is blue - the colours are only enhanced.

The Rustic Chophouse has decided to jump in on the lunch crowd and started doing lunch now. This has been a really nice evening steak house, got to see what lunch is one day.
