The first running of the Sligo Marathon and Half Marathon 2012 took place on Saturday September 15th 2012 at 09:00 and 09:45 respectively. The Start/Finish arena, race check-in area, and other facilities were hosted in the Sligo Institute of Technology, Knocknarea Sports Arena. The organisers of the race purposely kept the field size in this race to a minimum as they wanted to estimate the size of the task of organising a marathon in the city. All told the race was well organised and a very good showing for a first attempt at organising a marathon. The race routes were around Lough Gill, with views of the Lake Isle of Innisfree, for the Full Marathon. The Half Marathon follows the Full Marathon until Parkes Castle, then heads up "Hill of the Squirrel" and loops back to the grounds of Sligo IT. All in all the routes were challenging with some steep hills in the full marathon and 'The Squirrel' in the Half. We have got a very nice set of photographs of the event here on this Flickr set.

This is a photograph from the Edenderry 10KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in at Castleview, Edenderry, Co. Offaly, Ireland on Friday 14th August 2015 at 19:00. The race is the final race in the Offaly AAI County Board Summer Road League. The race started at the rear of St. Mary's Secondary School and finsihed close by at Edenderry Primary School for Boys. The slightly earlier start time of 19:00 was to facilitate the safety of runners due to the fading light on late August evenings.
The race started at St. Mary's Secondary School and then takes in one of the most well known and well traveled running routes in Edenderry and is well known to local joggers, walkers and runners. Proceeding from the start onto St. Mary's Street the race moves along this street north to Father Kearns' Street and to the O'Connel Square before it takes a right turn to head south along Father Paul Murphy Street which is also known colloquially as 'the Tunnel Road'. After about a kilometer the race passes through the short tunnel under the Grand Canal on 'the Bog Road' to Rathangan. Shortly after emerging from the tunnel the race turns right again into Cloncanon/Drumcooly are which brings runners to The Hill or Furey's Hill which sees a quick elevation rise of over 90 meters. The Hill rises above the surrounding bogland on all sides. However there is some great downhill to enjoy after reaching the top and runners then join the R401 to Rathangan and begin to turn back in towards Edenderry. The race then crosses the Grand Canal this time on the Tullamore/Daingean road. The final mile goes back down along St. Mary's street until the left turn up the hill at Schoolhouse Lane to the finish at Edenderry Primary School for Boys. The weather was perfect for running with just a light breeze in the warm August evening.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Front Runner #2 getting a few last runs in before the big day, which is Tommorrow. That is the day it will start taking people.
This is a photograph from the 2nd Annual Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon which was held in Dublin, Ireland on Monday 4th August 2014 at 08:30. The Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon also incorporated the Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) National Half Marathon Championships which was open to all eligible runners registered with an AAI affiliated athletics club. The race started in Dublin City center at North Wall Quay and Castleforbes Road on the Liffey. The route then went West out of the city bringing runners along the famous South Quays to Inchicore and then taking a slight northerly direction into the Phoenix Park. The race finished in the Phoenix Park with runners following over half of the course within the grounds of the famous park. Over 7,000 people took part. The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series is one of the largest running series in the world with events primarily taking place in North American Cities. However, recently the franchise has spread to Europe. One of the unique aspects of the race is that every course features live bands along the course along with cheering teams of supporters at water stations. In the Phoenix Park today there was a large entertainment area at the Finish line for competitors, families and friends to enjoy.

I had my strobes, umbrellas and stands all around my brother Ned at the track. Onlookers thought he was some champion runner who just got a scholarship to Oregon State....or something of that nature.
He did just get into Bentley and will be running for them though.

This is a photograph from the 10th annual running of Liffey Valley Athletic Club's Annual Tom Brennan 5km Road Race and Fun Run which was held in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland on Thursday January 1st 2015 at 12:00. The race was attended by well over 500 runners who took on the challenge of the 2 loop course. Whilst the weather was very mild for this time of year there was a very strong wind on some parts of the course. Otherwise the course is flat and fast. There was a great atmosphere in the park with spectators and walkers out cheering on the runners despite the weather getting poorer with each passing minute. This race is the first race in the Lord Mayor of Dublin's “5 alive challenge”. The Liffey Valley Club and many other volunteers work hard to make this a very successful event. It provides a splendid opening of the New Year for runners of all abilities.
