Taking part in a 10K race.

This is a photograph from the annual The Downs Valentines 5KM and 10KM Dash Road Races and Fun Runs which were held in The Downs, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday 14th February 2016 at 12:00. The races were held as fundraisers for The Downs National School Development Project. The race HQ is The Downs GAA club which is right beside the National School. The Downs is situated half way between Mullingar and Kinnegad on the M4 Motorway with easy access provided by the junction at Thomas Flynn's Ltd (www.google.ie/maps/@53.501005,-7.2357645,17.75z). There was great local support at the race with over 350 participants with runners, joggers, walkers and families taking part. The weather was in contrast to the foggy bitterly cold day of last year - there was pleasant bright spring sunshine with little breeze making it perfect conditions for running.

This photograph is part of a large set of photographs which was taken at the race. The complete set is available on our Flickr page at [https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157664477326592]

Timing and Event Management was provided by the new Irish company MyRunResults.com. The results from today's race can be found on their website in the results section [www.myrunresults.com/results.html]

You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

This pedestrian overpass reminded me of an old video game called "Lode Runner." Does anyone remember playing this game? I played it with my first computer, an Apple II. That just about started my interest in computer-aided graphic design. But prior to that, I got into geeky stuff like programming in Basic, dBase, and doing accounting with spreadsheets...

The Downs GAA Valentines 5KM Road Race and Fun run was held at The Downs GAA club, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath on Sunday February 10th 2013 at 12:00. The race was held as a fundraiser for the Downs National School. The parents, teachers, and friends of the Downs National School and the neighbouring community are to be congratulated with the fabulous road race and social event that they organised. There was a great family atmosphere at the event and there was a very plentiful spread of refreshments afterwards in the Clubhouse.

The race starts on the Cloghan road and proceeds clock-wise around a circuit which takes in the main Killucan road. The road surface is a mixture of standard tarmacadam and gravel trail around by the forestry. Overall, the course is flat with just two very small hills for runners to content with. This road race was the same course as that which was held in June 2012.

This is a photograph from the 5th annual running the East of Ireland Marathons Staplestown Marathon and Half Marathon road races which were held in the village of Staplestown, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 21st January 2017 at 09:00. The event is organised by East of Ireland Marathons with local support and input. The races all started and ended in the village of Staplestown which is about 2 miles from the entrance to Donadea Forest Park. All races were held on the same loop of approximately 10KM in distance where the marathon runners covered 4 loops plus a short out and back sections. The half marathoners covered 2 loops and some out and back. The loop is well known to local runners as it connects the village of Staplestown with the larger village of Properous, Co. Kildare. Weather conditions were very cold as a night frost brought ground temperatures down to well below zero degrees celsius.

My running has started to improve a bit, I'm running 5K now and can manage the distance. It was pretty naff weather here in Hull today and was quite damp and misty too. I dug out my loud tights so that I would be a bit more noticed on my run. I am enjoying running, it's a bit of freedom you can manage without too much money and get your fitness levels up too!

too bad the head is cut. :-(

This is a photograph from the start of the 2nd annual running of the Trim AC 10 Mile Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 7th February 2016 at 12:00. The race attracted over 650 participants and already the event shows growth on last year's number of participants. The race started on the Trim/Athboy road on the town's ring road and proceded to take an anti-clockwise loop out towards the village of Dunderry and townland of Kilbride before returning back to the Trim Industrial Estate for the finish. The route is all quiet country roads with some hills at 3, 6, 8 mile segments. Today the weather was every runner's nightmare: very cold air temperatures and from mile 4 until the finish a very strong headwind. While the weather was dry without any rain the windy conditions made a very fair course challenging. Waterstops were provided at the 4.5 and 7 mile marks on the course. All access roads were well stewarded. The event was sponsored by Bewleys 1840 and many local business establishments. Credit must go to the Trim AC team for their flawless organisation. This race will continue to grow. For runners around the North Leinster area this 10 mile race serves as a perfect training progress stepping stone to the Bohermeen Half Marathon which will take place in March 2016 and is located only 15 minutes drive from Trim. This yet again proves that a great club with great local support and volunteers can organise great road races!

Timing and event management was provided by SportsSplit. Their website is here [www.sportsplits.com/] and will contain the results to today's race.

We have photographs from the one mile mark and the finish at 200 meters to go - they are all available on Flickr [https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157664217257512]
