Wadi Rum, also known as The Valley of the Moon, is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southern Jordan 60 km (37 mi) to the east of Aqaba; it is the largest wadi in Jordan. Wadi Rum is Arabic for "Roman Valley", or "Valley of the Rûm", as the Greeks (or East Romans) were called in the early Byzantine era by Arab people, probably referring to Christian Byzantine monastic or ascetic communities in the area, for which they were also known as "monks of the desert", before the expansion of the Rashidun Caliphate.
Wadi Rum has been inhabited by many human cultures since prehistoric times, with many cultures–including the Nabateans–leaving their mark in the form of rock paintings, graffiti, and temples.
In the West, Wadi Rum may be best known for its connection with British officer T. E. Lawrence, who passed through several times during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. In the 1980s one of the rock formations in Wadi Rum was named "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" after Lawrence's book penned in the aftermath of the war, though the 'Seven Pillars' referred to in the book have no connection with Rum.
The area is centered on the main valley of Wadi Rum. The highest elevation in Jordan is Jabal Umm ad Dami at 1,840 m (6,040 ft) high, located 30 kilometres south of Wadi Rum village.
Jabal Ram or Jebel Rum (1,734 metres (5,689 ft) above sea level) is the second highest peak in Jordan and the highest peak in the central Rum, rising directly above Rum valley, opposite Jebel um Ishrin, which is possibly one metre lower.
There are a lot of sea caves around Rum but not many are easily accessible except from the sea. We had to wait for the tide to go out here to get round a small headland on foot. The red rocks are the billion year old Torridonean sandstone.

The lighting was just right when I glanced over while trying to find something to capture in a photo. These bottles have been siting empty ever since we received them. I thought about filling them up, but then I questioned how the whiskey would taste from one of these bottles? We don't consume much alcohol at home, so the whiskey would likely remain there for years in a bottle that doesn't seal properly. Then I pondered, does it even spoil?? HAHA Thanks for tuning in to my TED Talk.

December 14 - Tell us about a holiday food that you love and why.
Rum balls have been associated with Christmas with me for sometime. When I was younger, the grandparents would always send a box full of presents for everyone and a few presents for the family. Among the regulars for the family were Real Maple Syrup candies from the northeast and Rum Balls from their friends.
As the years went on, they finally received the rum ball recipe from their friends and passed it on.

The Bundaberg Distilling Company was formed in 1888 to supplement returns from the local sugar industry and to make use of molasses, a waste product from sugar refining. The first Bundaberg Rum was distilled in 1889 and the following year it was being sold interstate. In its early years the company struggled financially, first returning a profit in 1898.
The Bundaberg Rum distillery burnt down twice, interrupting production from 1907 to 1914 and from 1936 to 1939. After the second fire, burning molasses spilled into the Burnett River, setting it on fire. Initially, Bundaberg Rum was sold in barrels and bottled by agents. It wasn’t until the 1970s that all bottling operations were brought in-house.
Bundaberg RumQueenslanders are very loyal to their local drop. A Roy Morgan Research survey in 2015 found that while 5.4% of Australian adults consume some kind of rum, that figure rises to 9.8% in Queensland. And most of that is Bundaberg Rum – or Bundy, as it’s commonly known. Almost 6.0% of Queensland adults drink Bundy in an average four weeks, well in excess of the Australian average (2.4%).
It’s a two-way street. The company supports its loyal customers. After the devastating 2013 floods in Bundaberg, Bundaberg Rum released the special limited edition Road To Recovery bottle. Each bottle bore the name of a flood-affected street, and sales raised over $250,000 for flood relief.

There are so many sand patterns on beaches, but it is often difficult to capture their shape and form. But I enjoy the chase, trying to do it. This one was on Camusdarach beach, Arisaig, West Highlands, with Skye and the Small Isles of Rum and Eigg behind on a sparkling, blue sea
