2006 Royal Enfield Bullet 500.
499 cc
1990–present
Historically sold worldwide in different variations with both 4-speed and 5-speed gearboxes (The 5-speed iron-barrel engine model was sold under the name Sixty-5). In 2009 iron-barrel engine production came to an end but the B5 export model, with a fuel-injected UCE engine, is sold as the Bullet 500 in almost all international markets. It is currently available in forest green and glossy black colour schemes, and features unique silver petrol tank decorations.
One of its many successes in 1954 was in the Hurst Cup. By the time I went to my first Hurst cup bikes like these were a long distant memory being replaced by state of the art specialised trials bikes from Montesa, Bultaco, Ossa, Fantic, Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda.
Sadly, these specialist trials bikes have now been replaced by competition bikes that bear little resemblance to their road going ancestors - such is progress.
Lord Shiva Statue under construction.
I was lucky enough to visit and see this second largest Shiva statue in the world back in 2005 when I toured South India on a Royal Enfield Bullet.
From where I took this photo I could see lots of local people bathing in the sea fully clothed.
The statue, standing at a height of 123 feet, took almost 20 years for Shivamogg’s Kashinath and several other sculptors to build.

The meal was excellent & was enhanced by the sight of this 1953 Royal Enfield Bullet featured by the bar inside.
Surisingly it's an original British-built bike and not an Indian copy. Royal Enfield today is an Indian multinational motorcycle manufacturing company, headquartered in Madras (Chennai), India. The Royal Enfield brand, including its original English heritage, is the oldest global motorcycle brand in continuous production.

Royal Enfield was the name under which the Enfield Cycle Company made motorcycles, bicycles, lawnmowers and stationary engines. The legacy of weapons manufacture is reflected in the logo, a cannon, and their motto "Made like a gun, goes like a bullet". Use of the brand name Royal Enfield was licensed by The Crown in 1890. The original Redditch, Worcestershire based company was sold to Norton-Villiers-Triumph (NVT) in 1968............................

The Royal Enfield Bullet was originally a British overhead valve single cylinder four-stroke motorcycle made by Royal Enfield in Redditch, West Midlands, but now produced by Royal Enfield Motors, the successor to the British company, at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in India.
The current range was launched with new engines in 2007. The 500 cc UCE features fuel injection, and has greater power than any Royal Enfield 500 cc motor. The 500 cc UCE, with an integrated five-speed gearbox, powers the current Bullet Classic model. Starting in 2009, this engine was available only in the EU to satisfy emissions regulations, but from 2010 also became available in the USA.
The Bullet Electra EFi is described by its makers as the classic motorcycle, symplistic in design with a new robust and reliable unit construction engine
WATSONIAN GP MANX SIDECAR
The GP Manx sidecar is shorter and lighter than the Grand Prix. Like the other Grand Prix models, it has a fibreglass body that sits in a tubular steel perimeter frame, with a black powder coating to keep it looking good. Suspension is hydraulic and either 16” spoked or 10” cast aluminium wheels can be specified.

Location: Berlin - 7300km from home.
I am trying to upload one highlight per week, and this is this week's hightlight - and it certainly deserves that spot. It is also my first Indian license plate ever. 2 months before I could spot this bike, someone told me about its location in a completely different area of Berlin. Unfortunately, the bike was gone when I went there. Two months later, only a few metres from the location where I've spotted my first Chinese plate, the bike was seen again. It was parked there for a few days, maybe two weeks, even, before it eventually left. One sticker on the bike suggested the owner drove from India to Berlin, but I couldn't find anything of that story online. Indian bike plates are certainly interesting. The most interesting part is the fact that they have front-plates, too, as you can maybe see from this spot. For someone who doesn't know much about plates, these plates are pretty weird. But given India's size, I understand the reasoning behind these plates. Unfortunately, bike plates are rather non-exotic looking aside from their digits and aren't standardized as much as car plates.
Tamil Nadu is a state to the very South East of India, sharing a maritim border with Sri Lanka.
As the name suggests, Tamil is the most common language in Tamil Nadu. Most people are Hindus, and about 4 million people each are Christians or Muslims. Interestingly, Tamil Nadu has the lowest fertility rate of India. The sate is roughly 3 times smaller than Germany, but only has 10 million inhabitants less, with 72 million people living here. The largest city, however, where this bike is from - Chennai - has about 1 million inhabitants more than Berlin, and places 2-4 have a little more than Berlin.

This Wetherspoons was once a cinema called "The Danilo" between 1937 and 1999. It is now a pub called "The Royal Enfield " which displays - amongst other local ephemera - a pair of Royal Enfield Bullets, one from 1962 and a post 1999 Indian built version from when the Indians won the legal right to use the "Royal" after 44 years of carrying just the "Enfield" brand name.
