Royal Enfield Bullet 350

Not the best photo, but I thought the Enfield fans out there might like to see this unusual Royal Enfield 350 Bullet..

So, what's unusual you may ask...

Just take a closer look at the engine...

This RE passing in front of the camera is heralded by the unmistakable sound of its single 500cc engine.

A bit unusual but...

The Indians have been building diesel-powered Enfield Bullets for years, The Enfield Bullet's pre-unit gearbox meant a single cylinder diesel could be bolted in without disturbing the transmission. intended to run at a constant speed all day powering generators or water pumps, these engines proved ideal, if a little short on power.

A dusty bike in an alleyway is usually an oversight for an average man. But artsy photos are usually found in places where you lease expect. Although, to be honest you don't need to go very far in india to find a enfield bullet 500.

Here's a photo of dad's old Royal Enfield Bullet.

Here's a picture going back to 1961. The photo was taken in a field next to my grandparents home in Chapelthorpe. I'll let dad provide some background.

"I seem to remember the bike being a 1953 model and it definitely was a 350cc single-cylinder Royal Enfield Bullet, we called them 'Royal Oilfields' for the copious amounts of oil they dripped onto the garage floor. In truth though, this bike was quite oil tight.

As you can see from the photo I inverted the handlebars to give it a more 'racy' riding position but it didn't make it go any faster, 73 mph or so and it ran out of steam. I also removed the front number registration plate from the mudguard and secured under the headlamp. The polished aluminium engine and gearbox castings buffed up a treat, and the mid blue livery made it quite an attractive looking bike".

The five speed with electric start fitted.

From my tour through Ladakh. Altitude about 4800m.

Spotted this in a garage of my mums neighbour yesterday the other bike is a Royal Enfield Bullet

According to the publicity, what started in 1932 continues to deliver pure motorcycling experiences across generations of riders. Bullet, the quintessential Royal Enfield, is today the longest running motorcycle in history to be in continuous production.

"A unique, hand-painted fuel tank, the distinct thump and a standing testimony to Royal Enfield's philosophy of simple design and resilient build make Bullet a living legacy on two wheels."

This 2002 Royal Enfield Bullet 500, GX02 BTU, was seen in the Cotswolds on 6th April 2024.

Royal Enfield was the name under which the Enfield Cycle Company (founded 1893) made motorcycles, bicycles, lawnmowers and stationary engines. The legacy of weapons manufacture is reflected in the logo, a cannon, and their motto "Made Like A Gun". Their first motorcycle was built in 1901.

In 1955, Enfield Cycle Company partnered with Madras Motors in India in forming Enfield of India, based in Chennai, and started assembling the 350 cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle in Madras. The first machines were assembled from components imported from England. Starting in 1957, Enfield of India acquired the machines necessary to build components in India, and by 1962 all components were made in India

The original Redditch, Worcestershire based company dissolved in 1971, but Enfield of India continued, and bought the rights to use the Royal Enfield name.

Die Bullet ist eine lebende Legende. Die Konstruktion stammt von 1955, sie wird fast unverändert in Indien in Handarbeit produziert. Ein Veteran für Liebhaber klassischer Eintöpfe - ohne Ersatzteilprobleme!

This a bit of an odd one, but nevertheless a good looking bike.

This machine started life as an 1960 Indian built Royal Enfield Bullet 350 built for the Indian Army. At the time the Bullet 350 was being produced in the UK at the Redditch plant and in India. Introduced in 1955 the Bullet 350 the UK built was updated in 1959 with changes to the gear ratios, which were not incorporated into machines being built in India for the Indian Army. Thus the British and Indian lines diverged, never to meet again.

This machines frame was modified in 1974 and in 1981 was fitted with a 398cc Kawasaki Z400 engine
