April in Paris (= rainy). Those are my two windows, and the front door below them...

We had lunch in Pyrmont on Sunday. Afterwards we drew some rooftops in Union Square where we'd had lunch. Pyrmont is an inner city suburb right behind Darling Harbour.

The sun was coming up, the warm golden light and its million reflections from silver tinted windows; made it impossible for him to stay asleep for more time.

"Wake up Adam! Look at the view from this place! Just be careful when you get up. You were sleeping on the edge the whole time. Oscar kept trying top move you to a safer place, But you kept going back ."

He sat back on his back; carelessly keeping his legs off the safety rail, enjoying the early morning breeze coming from the dark clouds.

'How did I get here?' He looked at all the strange faces around him, searching for some recollection.

The streets were empty from last days celebrations, empty bottles and remains of yesterday's fireworks still strewn around haphazardly. Cars were parked everywhere, some in middle of the road, but no one complained. It was like the whole city was dead and everything in it still asleep.

Adam was with his girlfriend in a night club the previous night. They had had the time of their life drinking vodka and dancing to the music. Everything went according to the plan. The flights were on time, reservations went well, and there were people assigned to take care of them.

Their native travel guide; Ahmad was responsible of making sure the couple had a good time. So he took them to an underground party where only the elite were permitted. Women, drugs and alcohol everywhere! The music was like melting chocolate on an ice cream.

Ahmad was the one who had asked Adam if he would be interested in a psychedelic experience. "They have a special drink there called 'The Green Fairy'. They serve it only during the festival season. I suggest you give it a try. It'll help you dance the whole night." Ahmad explained.

Even though they no experience, somewhere deep down, they felt like letting go of their fears.

Hallucinations and energy pumped into their cells, and they felt like they were in a fairy tale. They jumped around on the dance floor and kissed like no one was watching. Time and space distorted and they went into a state of trance.

Later, when they got back to their senses, they woke up on a different side of the club, in an empty street. Doors, shops, markets; everything closed. There were no taxis or private vehicles on the streets. James tried calling the contact number, no one responded. They walked through the unfamiliar route; not knowing what to expect.

" Are you guys lost?" someone asked from a small open window above.

'Yes! we are. Can you help us get back home? I don't see anyone else on the street.' Alisa replied with a smile.

"No! I don't think I can do that." he laughed and soon, a well dressed, tall man became visible in the balcony near the small window.

"Why don't you guys join us for the celebrations? I have a bunch of friends over here. We have enough beer, food and space for two more. It's not easy to get out of this street at this time. I will come down and open the door, come in"

Adam and Alisa looked at each other, confused about the situation.

"Can we trust him, Adam? "

" We don't have any other option!"

Soon the door in front of them opened and a girl came out.

" Hey! Oscar told me to invite you guys in. Nice to meet you. Close the door" She walked back inside, without waiting for a reply. She headed into a huge hall with dim lights .

" Oscar told to take you both to the rooftop, everyone is waiting for you guys there. "

"Okay, Sorry to ask you about this. But all this feels a little strange. We just need a place to stay for some time, we will be moving first thing in the morning and we are too tired to climb up to the rooftop. But thank you for the hospitality." Alisa said, her voice concealing her discomfort.

"I understand your situation. But from the looks of it, you guys are tourists, lost in the streets, trying to figure out a way to get back home; You really don't want to piss off Oscar now. He is an eccentric character, you know. If he likes you, he is going to do everything that he can to escort you back to your place. But If he doesn't like you, he won't let you guys stay here for another minute. So choose your options carefully. " She replied and showed them to a very narrow ladder outside the main corridor.

They slowly climbed the ladder and upon reaching the top of the building were told to wait near the entrance for a minute. The girl ran towards Oscar to tell him about their arrival.

"Welcome my friends, how are you doing today? having fun in the city? I have a lot of foreign friends who visit me every once in a while. It's very silent during this time of the day here. The festival starts tomorrow, you'll see everyone then. I understand you guys already had a sip of our psychedelic festival, from the look in your eyes. Do not worry, okay? you will be safe here. I like to live here, on my rooftop, I go once in a while to my room downstairs " He started, taking in his strange accent.

" Nice to meet you! I'm Adam and this is my girlfriend Alisa. What should I call you? Oscar?"

" Who told you to call me that? Did Emile tell you about it? Damn that stupid girl. I'm the 'Rooftop Man' and this is my kingdom. Everyone here is a part of my people and I call them the 'Rooftop People'. We gather around here every year before the festival starts, " He said, pointing at a few of his favorite people scattered all over the place.

One by one Adam met each one of them. There were people from all around the world. He noticed everyone talked just like Oscar. they were like replicas of his ego, welcoming yet mysterious. Adam felt like the night was becoming stranger and he got trapped in a different dimension.

They talked about everything that came to their mind. About the meaning of life, life after death to secrets in the constellations.

" I can't really believe this is happening. Am I tripping on green fairy? I can't tell what's real anymore! " He looked at Alisa and Oscar.

"Well, I don't have an answer for that. But maybe I have something that can help you find the answer. Since you guys are our guests, we have a surprise for you" he took three red pills from his jackets pocket.

"Now this is going to solve all your problems for tonight. This is something I made for the festival, my own recipe!" He clapped twice and soon the girl brought a bottle of wine.

"Let's have it with that bottle of wine."

A friend asked me if I could shoot some pictures of him. Of course I agreed and we met on the rooftop for a quick session. It was very cold but we had a nice and clear blue sky, some sun from the side and thus I needed only a single flash in a softbox as fill light. I'm quite happy with the results.

Blowing snow off of a downtown Moncton rooftop today at lunch time.

It was a very cold day today here in Moncton: -20C or less. We are definitely in the deep freeze this week. Weather forecasters are saying this week will be the coldest week of the winter.

I was out walking for a bit today at lunch, and this view caught my eye so I took a video of it with my iPhone. I like how the wind currents catch the snow.

With no multi-story buildings at my disposal, the opportunities for rooftop photos is very limited, but I have often found inspiration for the challenge close to home. In fact, this shot was taken from my office window.
