The cute handmade sign really caught my eye, cos it was in the unfashionable part of Daehakno. Then I peeked thru the glass front door to find some steps. What convinced me to go in was a medium sized framed photo of an underground carpark that looked very much shot in a formal German style. Nice compostion and colour, maybe even medium format. Hmmm, lovers of the german photographic aesthetic, could be interesting. So up the steep stairs I went. It was a modest place, it looked very much like a modest student run cafe, attention was paid to the surfaces, like nice ceiling wallpaper and a nice selection of glassware. I wondered why I was the only customer in the place and found out that they had just opened 2 weeks ago.
What I liked most were their cameras, an Olympus PEN EE3 half frame hanging off a hook by their collection of design books and a vintage white (very rare) SX 70 Polaroid on top of the microwave.
It's an oasis in Daehakno which is full of fast food joints and anonymous chain cafes.
I was on a mission to find a new place for dinner so I only ordered a Ice Chocolate, which was excellent. They recommended me a well known Kalguksu (hand cut noodles in soup) place were so nice to draw me a map.
I'll be visiting the cafe again in April, when the weather warms up and they open up their rooftop space.
