This weeks SNS is coming early in the day for the simple reason it probably would be a Sunday morning special by the time I get home from the annual Halloween bash at our local watering hole:). BN 4360 leads a couple more bigs westbound into a late evening sun at Avery in this classic Ektachrome by Greg Stadter shot in September 1974. Chuck Schwesinger collection.
This box and it's contents where in exceptional condition being over 50 years old. It looked almost brand new and came with paint stirrers. Even new paint used to have the oil floating on top and had to be stirred for a while.

The rolling hills of Ferney La Vallée, in Mauritius. This area is a forest and wildlife reserve near Mahébourg. The main purpose of the reserve is to conserve and restore indigenous forests - less than 2% of the indigenous ecosystems of Mauritius remain intact.
Racing against the rolling fog bank to get a shot for today. Within minutes it was all whited-out.
The combination of the oilseed rape crop, Devon landscape, rolling fog bank, oak trees and sunset sky seemed to hit all the right points for me.

Conrail SD50s 6741 and 6787 rolled through Union Furnace with coal load UFY-842 on the Middle Division in 1994.
At the time, Conrail was a well-managed and successful railroad, which unfortunately led to its demise as NS and CSX gobbled it up in 1999.
With the glorious, undulating countryside of Rutland for a setting, Class 66 locomotive No. 66724 Drax Power Station rolls over Seaton viaduct with 6F78, the 14:22 Tunstead to Wellingborough working on Wednesday 20th April 2022.
Seaton viaduct is situated on the Oakham to Kettering line (completed circa 1878) and stands between Glaston Tunnel (1 mile, 82 yards) and the shorter Seaton Tunnel.
I didn't get nearly enough time in Yoho, but I did find my way to the Natural Bridge. Amazing colour in the water, incredible land forms. Wish I spent a bit more time at this spot and explored some more compositions, but I did like this one in the end.
I took this picture when a bit of cloud cover rolled in to block the direct sunlight and create a bit more of a flat image.

Norfolk Southern C40-9 8873 and another NS GE led the Roadrailer Z-EMCH train past some leaning signals on the Union Pacific's Milwaukee Subdivision in Gurnee, Illinois back in 2007.
The 8873 has since been rebuilt as AC44C6M 4080 and the Roadrailers have been retired, throwing that traffic onto the I-94.
Looking in the north, I located Mt Ushiro Tateyamas (on the farthest back in the center for Mt Shirouma/Hakuba and others). Lingering snow on them gullies were still visible even fom here. Alas, Mt Kashimayari got hidden in clouds. Now I must say bye-bye to them and hurry my way to Mt Otensho.
This was always going to be a wheel that needed greater motion and a well timed longer exposure lended that movement in the end!

Watching these traction engines race uphill rolling a barrel was amazing, I had no idea that traction engines could be so quick, sure not F1 speed but when you see them plodding along the road you do not expect them to have an actual noticeable acceleration.
The race was over in just a few seconds from dropping the flag to the clouds of steam and smoke belching from the stack as these monsters drove up the field rolling a barrel in front of them. The inshore breeze blowing the steam and smoke ahead of the engines made for an interesting image.
Absolutely fascinating.
One of the few viewpoints I had seen of Richmond before going, it seemed like a no brainer to do a long exposure here. Luckily had a window of time where the river was fairly smooth.

Indiana and Ohio SD50S 5016 (built in Australia as Hammersley Iron 6063 in 1982), was departing Emory Grove for Union Bridge on Maryland Midland's UBEG turn on a hellacold afternoon. It was passing Reisterstown Lumber on its way home.
The Aussie motor had worked for the Utah Railway before finding its way to the Midwest for the I&O and now it has washed up in Maryland.
