Oh how I love backlighting. I wasn’t really sure about this scene, but when I saw the light creep through the scraggly trees and the bright orange in the leaves, I couldn’t look away!

As I arrived at my spot in Norborne, I immediately spotted a huge plume of black smoke rising over the horizon. While it looked like an old steam locomotive coming down the Transcon at first, in reality it was UP ZCIG4 flying out of Carrollton on the BNSF Marceline Subdivision. UP SD70AH 8955 appears to have blown a turbo somewhere on its route as it smoked out the entire town of Norborne on its westbound journey.

We're getting a heat wave now so I took Benni to the park at sundown yesterday for a cool walk and some rolling on the grass. She was thrilled to find this clover which must smell good judging by her behavior.

(Sorry to have been gone - the last few days my right thumb, the computer mouse-holding thumb has been super painful. I think too much time on the internet these sluggy days so I've had to back off. I'll try to comment on one picture for each of my Flickr friends daily, but have to scale back from an hour of commenting. It seems a bit better from going off the last few days.)

Eve though it's essentially a water level route, the hills in this area didn't give the railroad much room to move. Lots of curves and several grades are found throughout the line south of Canton. South of Beloit, Iowa, the D&I starts climbing upgrade with loads for Sioux City. The Big Sioux River is just out of the picture to the left.

It's a special rolling pin for making crispbread or waffled biscuits/pastries.

Conrail SD50s 6741 and 6787 rolled through Union Furnace with coal load UFY-842 on the Middle Division in 1994.

At the time, Conrail was a well-managed and successful railroad, which unfortunately led to its demise as NS and CSX gobbled it up in 1999.

The view when looking north along Scarborough's South Bay is superb with the 11th century castle overlooking the town and harbour. Even better when the white surf rolls in like this.

Een indrukwekkend gezicht gisteravond boven de Zaanstreek. Ondanks dat het noodweer hier net voorbij ging, leverde het wel bijzondere plaatjes op.

An impressive sight last night above the Zaan District. Despite the fact that the storm was just passing by, it gave some special pictures.

North of Elliot Lake, I embarked on a long 14 km hike.

It had rained just before I arrived and low laying clouds remained moving through the region.

Do you see what I see?

Sometimes I gotta slow down

Catch a roll down some red rock road

Let it all sink in like these 35's

Make some time to kill, kick it back and chill

Do a little more livin' than gettin' by

Burn a couple lights, shoot a couple cans

Take a look at life, I'm just sayin'

Sometimes I gotta slow down

Catch a roll down some red rock road

Finally I did a road trip again after being locked down for almost 4 months at home. I went to Palouse for its classic rolling hills with wheat field. This place is truly magical especially in the golden hours when the hills are lit up by the low angle sun light. The light and shadows on the hills are just amazing to photograph. Love this place.

It seems like Tombstone territorial park is the top priority for many photographers in visiting the Yukon Teritory (and with good reason to be fair), but I’m a big believer that there is a lot more in the territory to see beyond Tombstone.

When my friend and I and I landed in the Yukon, after considerable delays and challenges, our first stop was Kluane National Park. We arrived only minutes before sunset and immediately took off down the highway looking for scenes of interest. Much of the park was covered in thick clouds, but for some limited areas in the front range, that cloud would break like waves against the towering, snow-covered, mountains.

Hope you enjoy!

Mølen in Brunlanes, Larvik is a geopark and Norway's largest beach of rolling stones. It is a part of Vestfoldraet, the terrain left behind after the end of the most recent ice age around 10,000 years ago. Mølen is one of Larvik's most popular tourist attractions. It is home to over a hundred species of rock, including Norway's national stone, Larvikite, which is named from the area.

The wind and sea have lashed the landscape of Mølen for thousands of years, and the place takes its name from the Old Norse word "mol", meaning a stone mound or bank of stones.

Mølen first received protected status in 1939 due to its ancient burial mounds. Mølen is home to over 230 cairns, some exceeding 35 metres (115 ft) in diameter. Excavations have dated the cairns to the Bronze Age 900-600 BCE. The cairns have been purchased and acquired by the University Museum of National Antiquities.

Mølen received a new protection status in 1970 due its rich and unusual avifauna. Mølen is a habitat for a variety of rare bird species. Between 316 and 320 species of birds have been recorded at Mølen, more species than at any other site in Norway.
