'Stop the Great Fuel Robbery' protest at Dept. Of Energy - 16.02.2013
A coalition of campaign groups gathered on 16th Feb 2013 at the Dept. of Energy and Climate Change on Whitehall to protest against ongoing excessive fuel price rises and proposed cuts in Winter Fuel Payments. Millions of poor, sick or disabled people are already experiencing extreme fuel poverty as they are faced with the stark choice of either eating or keeping warm, and deaths by hypothermia amongst disabled benefit claimants, pensioners and the sick have increased alarmingly as subsistence benefits are slashed by David Cameron's government.
Groups represented at the protest were UK Uncut, Fuel Poverty Action, Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC), Disabled Activists Network (DAN,) WinVisible, Greater London Pensioner's Association, Global Women's Strike and All African Women's Group.
As a grand finale the protesters set up a blockade of wheelchairs - one with someone handcuffed to a wheel - across one carriageway of Whitehall, disrupting Southbound traffic for over an hour before peacefully dispersing.

A bank was always the hub for a place like Gympie, defined by gold and greed. But sometimes the money never reached the bank ...
The Brisbane Courier
Tuesday 6 October 1868
HIGHWAY ROBBERY - STICKING UP THE GYMPIE MAIL COACH
We had hoped the sharp reception which the bush-thieves met from Mr. White, st Currie, the utter absence of all aid in the way of bush telegrams, and the presence of an efficient police force in the immediate neighbourhood, would have prevented the recurrence of this species of scoundrelism on the highway to our gold-fields, but we are disappointed. With all its risk there are creatures still to be found, it appears, who prefer taking the money of honest men to honestly working to obtain money of their own.
The particulars of the sticking-up, as they have reached us, are as follows :- The coach, with the mails, and three passengers left Gympie on Thursday morning, Sept. 3, about 6 o'clock. About half-an-hour after, and when about three miles from Gympie, the coach was descending a hill, and had nearly reached the bottom, when three men, with their faces covered, two of them armed with double-barreled guns, the other with a single-barreled gun, started from behind some trees, and commanded the driver to stop. The driver not being able to bring up the vehicle so soon as the men liked, they called out again, and threatened immediately to fire if they were not instantly obeyed. The driver called out he was pulling up as quick as he could, and brought the horses to a stand at the foot of the hill - a steep ascent before him, making it vain to attempt to escape by forcing the horses on. As soon as the coach was stopped, Mr Power was ordered out, and told to go and hold the horses, when one of the men came up to him and ordered him to 'shell out his cash,' when he drew out of his waistcoat pocket a five pound note, which did not satisfy the fellow; so he put his own fingers into the pocket and drew out two ten-pound notes.
One object in choosing this spot for the robbery seemed to be that the road there not only presented great facility for such an attachk, but that also the coach could easily be taken off the road into the bush. The coach was accordingly drawn two hundred yards from the road; the mail bags were taken out of it, and the three set to work to cut or tear open every letter in them, seemingly entirely without apprehension of danger in doing so, one of them putting his gun against a tree several yards off, the passengers being permitted to look on at the work of plunder.
[...]
The seemed very unexcited and methodical in their work; and to Mrs Farley, who was rather alarmed at their proceedings, they said, "Don't be afraid - we never touch ladies," by which we judge that this is not the first piece of villany of the kind they have been at. Having got all they wanted out of the letters, on leaving they told the driver to go on towards Maryborough, and not start for half-an-hour, for if he did they would come across him and blow his brains out.
[...]
The faces of the men were completely concealed, and their identification depends entirely on their general appearance and tone of their voices, but it is to be hoped these will prove sufficient to give a clue to who the men are, and, if captured, without doubt, to convict them.
The full report on the robbery is available here

SOOC , straight out of camera......View Large.....
This went down fast, pulled out the D300/70-300VR Nikkor just in time to get one shot. Pay no attention to the EXIF, it is a faulty reading.
Think the ISO might have been to high. Anyway gas at this pump out here in rural Thailand is just under $6 USD a gallon. The Gas Bandit was handed 100Baht which equates to $3USD + or - .
So the reason I say this went down real fast is because that little amount of fuel was in the tank in the blink of an eye. Never had a chance to set anything on the camera. Just draw and shoot ..;-0~
It is real hot out, like real hot !! 38-39C, no breeze and the humidity is going straight up. Big storms coming in from up North, China !
With the world oil crises, rising prices jumping up like the humidity around here, thought this image would give you a small chuckle ..;-)

The great train robbery" Well today 08/23/2021 & 8/24/2021 the Atlantic Coast Line Locomotive No. 1504 was placed on flatbed semi's to leave the area its only really known as home Jacksonville Florida. Just one more piece of railroad history this town could really not care about. Sure its going to be restored for U.S. Sugar Corp.'s historic Sugar Express tourist train attraction. And one more piece of Railroad history in Jax/Fl will be lost forever. So I say Goodbye to the Atlantic Coast Line Locomotive No. 1504.
Alias Tommy, the grey fox, the grey ghost
Occupation: Leader of Scotland yards Flying squad
On Monday, 12 August 1963 Butler was appointed to head the Police investigation of the great train robbery. He lead a team of six: Detective Inspector Frank Williams, Sergeant Steve Moore, Sergeant Jack Slipper, Sergeant Jim Nevill, Sergeant Lou Van Dyck and Detective Constable Tommy Thorburn. The decision to publish photos of the wanted suspects was already made by the detectives Hatherill and Millen, despite protests from Tommy Butler and Frank Williams
Tommy Butler had a reputation that he would always get the man, he was living with his mother and was a detective who was a workaholic and totally dedicated to his job. He led the chase between 1963-68 and caught everybody except Ronnie Biggs.
Butler, who had at one point chased down a tip that Bruce Reynolds was in southern France, was scanning people on the beach with binoculars when he was arrested by the French police as a Peeping Tom.
He caught Bruce Reynolds in the west country, Torquay in 1968. His colleagues told Butler, that this was the end, but Butler replied that it was not over before they had caught Ronnie Biggs.
In early 1969, Butler left by compulsory retirement. According to Bruce Reynolds, he had a job as Head of Security lined up with Midland Bank in January 1969.
Chief Superintendent Butler died in 1970 aged 57.

Marengo, Illinois - 2/24/21
New details released show that the two suspects who shot a Marengo gas station clerk during a robbery last week did so even after he gave them money from the cash register.
Two men walked into the Circle K Shell gas station, 600 North State Street in Marengo, around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Suspect 1 held the clerk at gunpoint while he got the contents of the register, according to a police bulletin. Suspect 1 then ordered the clerk to open the safe and pistol-whipped the clerk on two occasions.
Suspect 2 was watching the door and then came behind the register and told the clerk he has three seconds. The suspect counted down and shot the clerk in the leg.
Additional threats were made to the clerk and one of the suspects said “Keith, Keith, come on,” according to the bulletin.
Both suspects left and are believed to have gotten into a white van that was seen driving northbound on State Street.
Marengo Police Department Sgt. Andrew Kjellgren said officers found the adult victim, identified as Brian Pemble, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Pemble was treated at the scene by paramedics and flown to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford in stable condition, according to Marengo Fire Protection District Capt. Patrick Fanning.
The 35-year-old victim, an on-duty gas station clerk, was shot once in the leg during the robbery.
Suspect 1 is described as a male Hispanic, 25-35 years old, approximately 5-foot-4 or 5-foot 5, with a tattoo or mark on the right cheek, wearing a black hoodie with the text “DUCKIN BAD VIBES” on the chest and armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.
Suspect 2 is described as a male Hispanic, 25-35 years old, approximately 5-foot-8 to 6-foot-1, wearing a black jacket with a stripe on the shoulder and an unidentified white logo on the right chest, black jeans, tan boots and armed with a silver revolver.
The Aurora Police Department said on Friday that the suspects are linked to three armed robberies in their town.
One occurred around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of South Broadway in Aurora and the second occurred around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday on that same block.
The third occurred around 9:55 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of South Lake Street in Aurora.
Pemble’s wife, Melissa, started a fundraiser to help support their family of five kids while the father recovers from his injuries.
Melissa Pemble, a Capron resident, started the GoFundMe account, which has raised nearly $13,000 as of Monday.
Pemble said that her husband Brian is recovering from his injuries following the shooting, which occurred at his second job as a gas station clerk.
The money raised in the fundraiser will go towards medical bills and lost income.
Those who have information on any of the robberies are asked to call the Marengo Police Department at 815-568-7231 or the McHenry County Crime Stoppers at 800-762-7867.

The November 1961 Meccano Magazine included an article on the notorious toll bridge in Selby that spanned the River Ouse, the only bridging point in the West Riding town. Carrying the A19 road between Doncaster and York, the bridge was an infamous bottleneck - and very decrepit too. Avoiding paying the toll required a long detour. The private Selby Toll Bridge Company enjoyed a tax-free status and was loath to relinquish its rights to the local council. I heard it said that most of the takings went to the Mackintosh family of Halifax confectionery fame, but I haven’t been able to confirm that. The Selby Civic Society does state that Toll Bridge Company shares sold for £100 apiece.
As shown here, the bridge dated from 1791. It was rebuilt in 1969, enabling it to cope better with the needs of modern traffic, but to general disgust, the tolls continued to be charged. Selby Council deemed the asking price for a sale to be too high.
The nonsense finally ended in September 1991, to massive local relief. Finally, in 2003, a new bypass took the A19 clear of Selby. The bridge continues to be known as the Toll Bridge.

Birgitte Olsen (birgitteolsen) nods in agreement with Rob, feeling bad though that Miry was caught up in the mix.. she would then clear her throat and speak in the voice she had rehearsed many times, twisted, not sounding like her own voice "lady, we need them coins, at least 500 coins for each! Pay them now or find a way to get them as soon as possible!" she says in a stern tone

Bank Robbery / Perp Shot
181 Montague Street @ Citibank Brooklyn, NY
2/5/2007 10:18 a.m.
An attempted bank robbery was thwarted in Brooklyn Heights yesterday morning when police shot a knife-wielding suspect in the abdomen, police officials said.
Customers and employees fled a Citibank branch at 181 Montague St. in the heart of Brooklyn's court district as a suspect wildly slashed the air with a six-inch blade, a witness, Ronald Pritchard, said.
"The guy was banging the knife against the plastic windows and knocking down the barriers where people would be waiting in line'" Mr. Pritchard said. "He was screaming: ‘Where's the money?'"
Mr. Pritchard, who works as a stocking clerk at a Rite Aid pharmacy across street from the bank, said that he and the bank's security guard were planning to jump the suspect and use pepper spray just as police arrived at 10:05 a.m. He also said the suspect appeared to be mentally impaired.
Two officers came in through the front entrance of the bank and implored the suspect to drop the knife. When the suspect swung the knife, shots were fired, Mr. Pritchard said. An officer fired one round at the suspect, striking him in the stomach, police said.
After the suspect was shot, the officers proceeded to kick the knife out of his hand and place him in handcuffs, Mr. Pritchard said.
A detail of the NYPD's Emergency Services Unit entered the rear of the bank after police arrived, a parking attendant on Montague Street, Tony Kanaff, 39, said.
The suspect was taken to Lutheran Hospital in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, where he was listed in stable condition yesterday, police said.
During the attempted robbery, bank customers sprinted for the exits and ran down the front steps of the bank onto Montague Street, witnesses said. One man fell while going down the stairway but wasn't injured, Mr. Kanaff said.
The bustling block in Brooklyn Heights where the robbery occurred is lined with several other retail banks. Evan Thies, a spokesman for City Council Member David Yassky, who represents Brooklyn Heights, said robberies in the neighborhood were highly unusual.
The city saw a steep drop in armed bank robberies last year. There were 28 armed bank robberies in 2006, compared with 45 in 2005.

An ad van featuring the work of Vanguard ans similar operations by other Forces is currently touring the region.
Greater Manchester Police is leading the way in a new North West crackdown on armed robberies, following the Force’s major success over the past year, resulting in 33 offenders being convicted and sentenced to a total of 204 years.
These excellent results have been achieved thanks to Vanguard, GMP’s operation aimed at reducing armed robberies, and have made a significant contribution to the 58 per cent reduction in the number of cash-in-transit (CIT) attacks across the North West during 2010.
The North West will become a no-go area for armed robbers in the run up to Christmas as officers from Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales will work with the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) to safeguard commercial and financial businesses, along with CIT vehicles during their delivery and pick-up times.
“The success we’ve had in arresting and convicting so many offenders should be a warning to anyone thinking of committing this type of crime - there is no hiding place for them and they risk spending Christmas behind bars. The fact that so many key offenders have been locked up across Greater Manchester in the last year due to the successful work of Vanguard, means that the number of CIT robberies has dramatically reduced,” said Detective Chief Inspector Pat McKelvey, from Greater Manchester Police’s Vanguard team.
“However, there are still too many innocent victims suffering at the hands of criminals who do not hesitate to use violence. With Christmas approaching – traditionally one of the busiest times of year for this type of crime - we are determined to keep our communities safer by targeting, deterring and disrupting criminals who carry out CIT attacks and robberies of commercial and financial premises.”
A variety of tactics will be used to prevent these robberies, including armed police vehicles escorting high-risk security vehicles as they carry out cash deliveries; the use of overt and covert CCTV monitoring; patrol cars following cash-handling vehicles; plus all cash containers will include either Smartwater or a dye, which will be released if opened illegally.
In addition, the Force helicopter will shadow the vehicles from the air during collections or deliveries, enabling any activity to be monitored. While all North West police forces will continue to share intelligence and provide assistance for cross-border deliveries.
Detective Chief Inspector Pat McKelvey concludes: “I would like to stress that this is a devastating and often violent crime that can cause deep distress for the victims. Without key information from the public we wouldn’t be able to remove these offenders from the street. Therefore, we would ask the public to be vigilant and if anyone has any information to help us catch those responsible, please call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Vanguard is committed to making the security and commercial industries safer places to work by tackling offenders on the streets, in the courts and in our communities.
