While sitting at a water front table at the Hungry Bear Restaurant, I found myself gazing at the Rivers of America... I figured, why not take a picture.

It's my birthday! 23 promises to be an exciting year, and I have many goals I've set for myself. I won't list them here, but I can only hope I have as much determination and focus as Tiana.
Tiana is such an underrated princess and I truly love her film! When I got to meet her on the Mark Twain Riverboat (another favorite) last May, I just about died from excitemnt.

I love this area of Frontierland at night. It's pretty quiet back there, even when the park is hopping. This is a six exposure HDR merged and finished in CS5.
Thanks for looking!
I rebuilt the paddle wheel in #SketchUp after exporting from 3DStudioMax. It's a much cleaner build and the edge lines add to the complexity.
Even though I had great company and a good time shooting the fireworks over the Rivers of America, my results were not very good.
I was taking a series of long exposure shots before the fireworks to use as the Mark Twain background for the fireworks and the fireworks started before I could finish them. Right off the bat I realized I was about 10 feet too far to the left and the fireworks didn't line up where I wanted them to be. I also realized that I framed my shot incorrectly and was cutting off half of the bursts in the sky, including the Mickey burst.
I quickly changed my framing but after the first 3 big bursts, the sky was filled with smoke and the wintery, heavy, moist air was holding all the smoke right where it was and the gray cloud sat there obscuring the fireworks for the majority of the show.
I had grandiose plans of shooting the preliminary bracket for the Mark Twain HDR and then the fireworks and then a HDR panorama of the entire Rivers of America to layer it all together and make a huge panoramic HDR image filled with fireworks. I screwed up at the start, the fireworks looked like crap and the Rivers of America was fogging in before I could shoot the panoramic bracket. Oh well, I still had a good time, even if this is the only moderately useable photo I got from it.
Just another lazy day on the river, well, except for the people on the canoes. I'm pretty sure they're working up a sweat.

The Rivers of America in Tokyo Disneyland is AWESOME! It's much bigger than Disneyland and has some great scenery along the way.

So it's around 4 PM on Wednesday night and I noticed that the sky was setting up for another decent sunset, so I jumped in the car and headed down to Disneyland for some shots. When I arrived, I met up with Andrew and Sam and all three of us stood by the Rivers of America as the sky lit up. It was good to know that I wasn't the only sunset-a-holic in Orange County. I was already at Disneyland when I got a text from Andrew who was trying to decide if it was worth a trip in, and Sam....well....he just LIVES there.
As all three of us began shooting, I noticed that the Mark Twain was still making laps as there was no Fantasmic scheduled for that night. So I quickly ran up to the top deck and began shooting before all the light was gone from the sky. Andrew and I were hoping for more colorful shots around Tom Sawyer's Island, but the last bit of color disappeared before we made it around the first bend.
As for the shot, it's a 7 shot handheld bracket via Photomatix and CS5.
Of all the images I took on this last trip, I think this is my favorite. I really wanted to get a good image of the Riverboat and when I setup I thought the mill would look great also. It was a bit of a challenge getting the riverboat which was brightly lit and the very dim mill. I think this is a 5 bracket HDR shot. All blended in Photomatix and then some more work done in Lightroom 5. Enjoy
The Disneyland Railroad is one of those nostalgic classics that as a child I always went on, I can't remember a trip when we didn't at least ride the train at least once. Now that I'm older I realize it was probably because my parents were tired and didn't want to walk anymore than they already had. Still, every time I ride the DLR those childhood memories come back.
As for the shot, this is a single shot processed with Color Efex and some CS5. I realized I didn't have any shots of the DLR in my library but soon figured out that it's mix of motion and low light made it difficult to get a keeper. I decided recently to make that motion an upside to the shot and tried this. I wish it could be sharper but when there is forward motion and side to side motion of the cars this is really the best I could do.
Please don't hesitate to tell me what you think, comments and constructive criticism are welcome and appreciated! :)
Finally back to the December shots! This is actually the first of three panoramas I've got to post out of the five remaining photos. I probably should've staggered them better than this but ehh...

If you haven't figured it out yet, my friend Murphy here is probably my favorite element in the park! I really enjoy how lucky I got in this shot by capturing the stream of fuel before it was ignited!
Do you know why his name is Murphy? Well it's actually after Murphy's law. In 2009, Disney replaced the original "three pole" Dymo dragon with this full fledged animatronic. And, when it was first introduced to the show, it was full of bugs. The mechanics were constantly moving outside of the programmed paths, and the dragon was actually damaging itself during operation - there's rumors it even once broke it's neck!
However, since then, the kinks have been knocked out, and the once aptly named "Murphy" has become a reliable and exciting component to the show. It was been performing so well that shortly before the summer of 2013 some upgrades were made to the dragon. The animation path was changed to be more dramatic - and effort was made to give the dragon more stage time. Components that were previously not used (as to not risk further damage) were reactivated and used generously- such as the Dragon's eyelids (Murphy can squint!), and finally lighting features were added to give a better sense of drama (color changing eyes!).
If you haven't seen Murphy yet, you need to - Fantasmic! is an excellent show that makes Disneyland unique!
While doing some Lightroom cleanup I realised I have some unpublished pictures from my 2012 trip to Disneyland that may be worth uploading to Flickr. Here's one of them. Two boats crossing Rivers of America.
This is one of the beautiful quiet scenes that may vanish due to the new Star Wars Land renovation. Reportedly the Rivers of American & Tom Sawyer Island will be cut in half. And the train's circle route will also be altered.
I won't miss the picturesque Native American village scene so much but I will hate the loss of many of the trees that have filled in so beautifully to form amazingly naturalistic woods along the river since the park opened in 1955.
American History soon to become Disneyland History, never to be replaced. It all allegedly starts Jan. 10 (according to a few cast members). The renovations will probably take over a year.
