Something a little different. Not 100% sure what I was going for here, and as a result I had a lot of trouble with the color and crop. What are your thoughts? What does it invoke in you? What do you think of the color levels? Let me know (please!).

A Last Paddle
January 10, 2016
An afternoon paddle on the last day of operations for pretty much everything on the Rivers of America, at least for the next year-and-a-half.
Some say the canoes have lost their charm, that they don’t bring enough guests. Well I’m sure some of it had to do with their closing while the river and island are shortened for Star Wars Land, but all I see are guests making memories.
I really don't have much to say about this picture, except that I'm really delighted that I caught these two in front of the fountains. The fountain + human element really takes Fantasmic! pictures to a whole new level, in my opinion.

From last October. Such a peaceful part of the park. As I recall, I was eating the last Citrus Swirl of the night from the Sunshine Tree Terrace, as I caught them closing down. Ah…. good memories. A single exposure, done in Lightroom.
You might consider this the companion shot to my previous one from the middle of Tom Sawyer Island. I did in fact take this shot just because I was waiting for Fantasmic.

I get to see Disneyland's Fantasmic! for the first time in 7 months tomorrow night. I'm super excited as I've missed the show terribly. To date, this is probably the best shot I've gotten of Mickey at the finale of the show. I've just got myself a new toy (70-200 f/2.8) to use to shoot Fantasmic!, so here's hoping I'll be able to catch some even better moments.

A picture inside of Walt Disney in a picture looking outside of Club 33. What a nice dream realized. Enjoying a morning beverage watching the Mark Twain sailing by on the Rivers of America.
This guy loves hanging out by the Rivers of America in Magic Kingdom, watching the Liberty Belle Riverboat go by and hoping that someone drops a bit of food. He is aggressive! Photo taken with Fuji X-E1, 18-55mm lens at f/3.6.
A few weeks ago I rode in the wheelhouse of the Mark Twain for the first time and what a wonderful experience it was, so much so that when I was there again not too long ago and had the chance again I jumped at the opportunity. Having such a high point of view on the Rivers of America is rare and I was lucky enough to be up there right as the sun dipped below the trees on the outskirts of Critter Country. Seeing the sunset up there was fantastic!
This is a 3 shot HDR, manually blended in CS5, and then quite a few Nik software filters to finish it off.
Please don't hesitate to tell me what you think, comments and constructive criticism are welcome and appreciated! :)
Just another beautiful (but miserably hot) sunset over the Rivers of America.
This was shot on a really fun evening with lots of flickr friends, Gregg Cooper, WJ McIntosh, Cory & Kory, Dan & Patti who were all there celebrating Justin's birthday (even though I never saw him). I was also there with good friends Larry & Rebecca who are nice enough to pose for me in all the crazy things that I want to photograph with them. And they never complain!
On Tuesday I met up with Justin, Gregg, Tracy, Patti, Dan, Sam and Bill. This time we actually spent more time on rides than photos! Disneyland closed a couple hours early for an AP event which celebrated the 20th anniversary of Fantasmic! And thanks to Patti, Dan and Gregg, I was able to attend. After the show, the Rivers of America took on a different ambient hue and I thought the Twain looked especially vibrant against the mucky spring sky. I originally intended this as an HDR but the lights changed in the middle of a long exposure (and I didn't like what Photomatix was giving me with just the two images) so I layered them and processed this as a single exposure.
There were no pyrotechnics necessary for the magnificent display we had in the sky at Disneyland on Wednesday.
Bill McIntosh and I only had about 15 minutes to run around like kids in a candy store (or photo junkies in a crack house for Bill) trying to get as many rainbow and sunset sky shots as we could. Thanks to Mother Nature, we had all the ooh's and ahh's we needed.
When Lillian Disney said she wanted a big rock for her anniversary, Walt took it literally. This is the petrified tree he gave her as a "Big Rock". Since it was obviously too large for their home, Lillian donated it to Disneyland.
Most people know that I am head over heels in love with Fantasmic, specifically the Disneyland version. As I've spent more time here in Florida, it's really hit me just HOW good the Disneyland version of Fantasmic is, comparable to the version offered in WDW's Hollywood Studios. While you do get to enjoy Fantasmic on a bench in Florida, you are robbed of many awesome things, including but not limited to: the Peter Pan section, the beautiful Mark Twain at the show's closure, and up front seating if you stake at the right time (second show, 1 hour prior).
But what I think I miss most about Disneyland's Fantasmic is dear Murphy, the fire breathing dragon. While Murphy has had quite the bumpy career, he now stands tall and proud while breathing a steady stream of fire that puts the WDW dragon to shame.

The Sailing Ship Columbia, located at the Disneyland park in Anaheim, California, is a full-scale replica of Columbia Rediviva, the first American ship to circumnavigate the globe. When it was constructed in 1958, it was the first three-masted barque to have been built in the United States in more than 100 years. The Columbia has entertained park visitors for over fifty years, including its twenty-one year role as Captain Hook's pirate ship, the Jolly Roger, in the park's popular nighttime show, Fantasmic!. Its passengers embark on a scenic, 12-minute journey around the Rivers of America. - taken directly from Wikipedia
Tokyo Disneyland, without a doubt has the best Rivers of America of any Disney Park. The expansive space as well as the attention to detail puts the US parks to shame.
What better way is there to celebrate a Friday?

The original boat, an authentic sternwheeler steamboat called the Admiral Joe Fowler, was built in dry dock at Walt Disney World and set afloat when the attraction opened on May 20, 1973. The Richard F. Irvine was later added as a second boat. After its extensive rehab in the '90s, the Richard F Irvine was renamed the Liberty Belle in 1996.
In 1980, the Admiral Joe Fowler was sent to dry dock maintenance and never returned.
I've always wanted to play with the 'Out of Bounds' effect but never had a frame I thought would work. This one probably wasn't the best choice but in the course of playing with it I learned a bit about how to better compose a shot that I might use in the future. I also found a Photoshop action that made trying it a whole lot easier than some of the instructions I'd previously found.
Yes, I know it's Monorail Monday not Fireworks Friday but I just couldn't help but get ahead of myself. After I shot these last night I knew I had to edit one and post it. This is my first time shooting fireworks with my new lens, ND filter, and remote release. I have to say I am very happy with how this turned out and cannot wait to try it some more. It's not perfect but I know what I need to fix next time. As for the name, I thought this would be appropriate because the entire time I stood there and waited they had Mardi Gras music playing and I was really enjoying it, NoS looks beautiful with all the Mardi Gras decorations!

*Don't worry I didn't forget it was Monorail Monday, here it is ( flic.kr/p/bwSzsF )!

Just one more example of how Tokyo Disneyland does things right.
We didn't have much time to spend in this part of the park but were blessed that it was our only few hours of blue skies. A surprising difference between the people of Japan and those in America is when you ride the Mark Twain Riverboat. In America, everyone rushes to the front deck or the top deck to soak in the sun and enjoy the view. In Japan, they don't like being in the sun so they all stay in the covered areas and the bow of the boat is virtually empty. The queue was packed with people and I didn't think we would even get on the boat but they packed the people in and we were some of the last to board. I wanted to see the River and photograph it so I was afraid I would be crammed in the middle of a big crowd and wouldn't be able to see a thing. Much to my surprise, we walked right up to the bow and got the dead center spot. There were only 2 other people up there where it was sunny and nice. Just an odd cultural difference.
One final look at the Mark Twain as the Rivers of America will be drained tomorrow for a refurb on the Boats, Fantasmic equipment, and the River itself. It could be down for months. I'll certainly miss this view as it is easily one of my favorite areas of the park.
neon monkeys dance all night?
Fantasmic! is chalk full of challenging photo ops, including but not limited to these darn monkeys. I have struggled for about a year to get these buttheads in a clean shot, and by some miracle (my new camera/glass) I walked away with this shot. To say I was thrilled barely captures my emotions (lots of jumping around, heavy breathing, etc.) as I was going through the photos after the show. Hopefully this means that there will be many more monkey photos to come!

I heard at one point the SS Columbia was a fine sailing vessel... at least, it was before that Ruffian, Captain Hook took her over!

I still have at least one photo from #Disney24 yet to upload, but this was chronologically the last shot I took. This was taken about an hour after my Partners photo - and you can see the huge difference in the sky color that occurred in just one hour. While it's not nearly as deep or colorful as my other photos from that morning, I like how peaceful and calm the Rivers of America look. Shortly after 7am, the park was still pretty much empty, so while the calm water is partially a result of the long exposure, it pretty accurately reflects what it felt like to be in the park that morning.
This photo was captured using the automated bracketing feature on my camera which recorded images at 4sec, 2sec, and 8sec respectively. The exposures were combined using the Merge to 32-bit HDR Lightroom plugin, followed by minimal Lightroom editing.

Sitting lakeside at the Hungry Bear Restaurant, I could not help notice the vantage point I was given in seeing the Disneyland Canoe and Mark Twain arrive side by side.

I took this picture about 2am New Year's Day 2009. It was so incredibly foggy, that it was difficult to see much more than the brilliant lights on the Mark Twain.
This is a cropped and processed version of the pic.

Continuing my primary color fireworks theme from yesterday, this is the "red villain" section of the Wishes Nighttime show as seen from the Rivers of America. There's a lot going on off frame to the right causing the reflective red sky.
Happy Friday!
