The Liberty Belle at the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
This is a fairly simple process where I took a picture of a fire wood log in the back yard, and overlayed the picture using the multiply blending mode in the layers pallete, with an opacity of around 65% or so... I then used a "distressed3" shaped eraser to rub away some of the picture to expose the wood background...
So I've been absent online for awhile now, I apologize for that, I'm just now getting caught up on things and have had time to process a photo. I'm finally on Spring Break so I'm looking forward to spending more time on photography than I have in the past weeks, and spending plenty of time at Disneyland too! It feels good to be back behind the lens! I'll do my best to catch up with everyone's posts!
Please don't hesitate to tell me what you think, comments and constructive criticism are welcome and appreciated! :)

This has always been one of my favorite spots in the Magic Kingdom. Turn your back on the crowds and you are almost transported back to a simpler time. No Cell Phones, Tablets or Double Wide Strollers just kids being kids and having fun.
When the winds are calm and the skies are clear, time seems to stand still along the banks of the Rivers of America.
This was taken last year during the Halloweentime celebration at Disneyland. For the second year in a row, Mike Greening and I were able to shoot the park while his lovely wife Diane filled up our punpkins with candy. (Does it get any better than that?) My favorite spot during the Halloween festivities is at the Rivers of America and Frontierland which are lit differently and covered in fog as the Cadaver Dans drift by singing from one of Tom Sawyer's rafts.
Both Mike and I decided not to go return this year as they had the same fireworks show as the previous two years. It's a great show, but probably not worth another $60 or whatever crazy price they are charging this year, and last year was unbelievably crowded for a school night in October.
In the mean time, I'm looking forward to the early start of the holiday season next week as it's my favorite time of year at the park. It gets earlier every year, doesn't it?
In my opinion, the best way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom park crowds is a slow leisurely cruise on the Liberty Belle. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
Took this shot from the Mark Twain Riverboat. The sun rays are beaming down in front of the cave on the Splash Mountain attraction (after the final fall and big splash!).
Location: Disneyland - Anaheim, California. Along the Rivers of America.
I spent almost an entire golden hour one evening shooting around Rivers of America, Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain and Frontierland in general. It’s one of my favorite areas to photograph sunset as I feel the golden tones from the sunset go really great with all the earthy tones in Frontierland.
This was shot with the Nikon D810 and Nikon 70-200 2.8. The sun had already dipped below the horizon here but I was still getting a really great orange glow in the sky. I used 2 shots blended together with luminosity masks to create my base for this shot. My single exposure was just slightly too bright in the sky so I used the image one stop below it to bring the sky down a bit. I used Nik Color Efex Pro Contrast per usual and then used a couple photo filter adjustments at various intensity’s and settings to enhance the warmth of the image. I did some minor color balancing along with a hue/saturation adjustment push. I finished off with two passes of sharpening.

A special photo I took for the last day of the operation of the Rivers of America before its temporary closure.
Happy Tuesday everyone. Today's edit brings us over to the Rivers of America for a long exposure. I took this picture one night from the walkway when It wasn't busy. I am really satisfied with how the reflections came out on this shot. What is your favorite spot to shoot from? Thanks for looking and have a great day!

The Mark Twain remains resolute in her position on the river while the passing of time seems to have no effect.
Rivers of America is a great spot for photography at the Magic Kingdom that often gets overlooked. Not only is it a great location to capture a sunset, but if you setup further down, it is a great spot for photographing Wishes too.
Have a great weekend.
I got back Monday from another great trip to Orlando. I was down there mostly for work but got to spend a lot of time in the parks shooting. I met up with Jeff Krause three nights and one of those nights Don Sullivan joined us. That night the three of us decided to shoot Wishes from this location and I think we all were happy with the results we got.
I had a great time the entire week. It included being the last out of the park at EPCOT with Jeff and two nights later by myself at the Magic Kingdom. I also lost a memory card that included a full day of shooting at EPCOT but luckily Disney security found it and turned it into Lost & Found two days later (long story I will have to post soon). I also photographed fireworks from three new locations (Illuminations from France, Wishes from this location and Wishes from Tomorrowland which was after a failed attempt at the Tomorrowland bridge).
Looking forward to getting back down this fall!
The landing for the Liberty Belle in Disney's Magic Kingdom. The companion shot to my previous post. They were shot within minutes of each other.

The Liberty Belle pulling away from Liberty Square Landing. Another one of those scenes that I find myself re-shooting.

This was taken a few weeks ago on an afternoon when I finally managed to be in the park just as a storm was breaking up. On the opposite side of the river, Mike Greening is taking a killer shot of a Rainbow over the Mark Twain, so I think it's safe to say that we are in each other's shots. Just a few moments prior to this shot, both of us were relaxing in the Plaza Inn with Diane, when suddenly we looked up and noticed that the sun had come out. Not bothering to order food, we bolted out the door and began to shoot like mad. Mike made a beeline for New Orleans Square and I took the long way around through Fantasyland and then over to Big Thunder Mountain as I thought it might be cool to shoot a Rainbow over Rainbow Ridge. I was on my way to find Mike when I noticed the color in the sky and had to stop to take a couple of brackets.
i was over at the park again tonight trying for the same sort of sky, but no dice. Just before sunset, another bank of clouds rolled in and the show was over. I'm trying to make a trip over with every storm lately as it generally stops raining in March and it will be a loooong wait until the rainy season begins again next November.

A look at some of the detail staged along Disney's Rivers of America in the Magic Kingdom's Frontierland.
I decided to try one of the Rivers of America/Mark Twain fireworks shots without doing any layering. Just a single shot, as it was.
What had been a really good sunset had basically already faded behind me at this point so I turned my direction from Splash Mountain towards the Rivers of America. What I really like about this shot is you get some of the elements that come with night time such as the reflected lights in the water. The clouds help add a moodiness to the image as well that helps it feel more unique than a regular day or night shot. The only thing I might have done differently is taken a few steps to the right so the full Harper's Mill text was shown but ultimately I don't think it really matters. I just like to be hyper critical of my shots sometimes (most the time).
This was shot with the Nikon D810 and Nikon 70-200 2.8. I used a single exposure for this shot. The majority of the work on this shot was once again dodging and burning. The power of dodging and burning when done right to take even a plain photo and make it at least mildly interesting is something not to be ignored. I touch on this some in my video series but I think I need to do a new video soon focusing just on dodging and burning.

Peering through the leaves atop Tarzan's Treehouse gives a unique view of Disneyland that can't be seen from anywhere else.
The Liberty Belle riverboat docked in Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World.
The Liberty Belle is an authentic 3-tiered paddlewheel steamship journey that circles the Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom for a scenic, half-mile tour of Frontierland, Liberty Square and Tom Sawyer Island. An actual working steam engine turns the massive paddlewheel that propels the ship.

The Liberty Belle passes Harper's Mill and Tom Sawyer Island in the Magic Kingdom's Frontierland. I went with a tight crop instead of a standard view of the entire ship passing the island. I tried b&w while processing, but I liked this version better.
In a giant stroke of luck last week, the rain stopped just before sunset and treated us to a lovely rainbow over Disneyland. After shooting it from the Castle, I bolted for the Rivers of America to capture it with water in the foreground. I only wish the sky was clearer so it showed up better.
