UTS Library provides support for teaching, learning & research needs of students and staff of the University of Technology, Sydney.
This includes almost 100,000 eBooks, 50,000 eJournals, and almost a quarter of a million books.
Library Retrieval System
UTS Library is only the 2nd library in Australia to feature a robotic library retrieval system (LRS).
Six robotic cranes handle the task of managing the 325,000 books stored in 12,000 galvanised steel bins.
The $28.5 million high-tech LRS is located in a bunker underneath the UTS Library.
The robots use frequency tags to identify books.
Abby will eagerly run to get the frisbee and even tries to catch it in the air, but as of yet she is more interested in taking it to our other puppy for tug of war than bringing it back to me. Oh well, as long as they're having fun and getting exercise.

66131 has just passed over the foot crossing at Brookhouse on the South Yorkshire Joint driven by good friend and fellow flickerite DBS 60100 on route to Worksop for the retrieval of the last rake of HTA's , ending the areas association with coal and rail with just one HTA left to be cut up on site . It was a grim day in more ways than one .

This paper bag had been part of the osprey's nest and got blown off. He took off after it for retrieval.
Taken at the San Diego Wild Animal Safari Park on October 16. This young lady (rhino) was making her debut. She had been born three days before at the park. I caught her nursing, which is what any self respecting three day old rhino would be doing. Neither mom or her calf seemed to mind that there were a truckful of human beings nearby.

42101 passes through Carlton with Tangara cars N5211 and D6211, belonging to set T42 which was involved in a collision with a car at Kembla Grange last week.
The two lead cars were road hauled away last week, however these last two cars pictured here were stabled at Unanderra until today where they were retrieved by 42101, running as train number 9118..

Haven't had any time to Post process, noise reduction, detail retrieval masking etc...the last which I'm usually 2 lazy 2 do anyways.
A photo of the UBC LIbrary's brand spankin' new ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System), which allows millions of extra books to be stored in half the space of a traditional library.
Welcome to the future: with the ASRS, we lose the ability to browse -- that magic of finding something while looking for something else is now gone -- but if we know what we're looking for, we're more likely to find that it's available on campus.

NASA's Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) is lifted aboard the Kahana recovery vessel after its test launch on June 28, 2014. The LDSD launch tested technologies for landing large payloads on Mars.

Illinois Central 3120 and 9604, the two Brookhaven Switchers doing a passby at Canadian National Railway's small Material Yard behind Pearlhaven Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Mississippi on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 4:54 PM CST.
They were heading west on the Central Subdivision, the former Mississippi Central Railroad after picking up a single covered hopper car from a customer spur and bringing it back to the Brookhaven Yard.

A Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU)-clad astronaut is depicted working on the space shuttle-berthed Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) satellite, aka “Solar Max”, while another, also wearing his MMU, photographically documents the activity from ‘above’.
Although the MMU was used during this particular mission, STS-41C, it was only during the failed initial attempt to grapple the satellite. Other than some other brief testing (I believe) of it/them during the mission, they were not otherwise operationally employed.
In November 1984, on STS-51A, the MMUs were used in a manner more similar to this artist’s concept. During the mission, Astronauts Joseph P. Allen & Dale Gardner used them, with other specialized equipment, to retrieve two wayward communication satellites, Westar VI and Palapa B2. The mission was to be the last time the MMUs flew.
Although no signature is visible, based on the MMU-centric nature of the work & it depicting SolarMax retrieval/repair, I think this beautiful work is by Martin Marietta’s immensely talented artist, Charles O. Bennett.

iss055e035437 (April 29, 2018) --- The SpaceX Dragon resupply ship was gripped by the Canadarm2 robotic arm on April 27, 2018 in preparation for its detachment from the Harmony module and its release back to Earth for splashdown and retrieval in the Pacific Ocean. The coasts of Spain and Portugal are seen as the International Space Station orbited over the Atlantic Ocean.

After mercenaries abducted the young daughter of a tech companies CEO for ransom, unaware that the company in question is actually a subsidiary of the AKU Partnership, an AKU Tactical Retrieval team was deployed to the abandoned gas station where the mercs where hiding out in order to return the girl.
Even if the financial costs of such an operation are not insignificant, sometimes in business one has to make a point.

The Orbiting Solar Observatory (OSO) seems to have been the satellite of choice to be depicted as being serviced/retrieved. I assume due to its unique appearance:

“SPACE SHUTTLE RECOVERS PAYLOAD---With its manipulator arm extended, the Space Shuttle orbiter prepares to retrieve a satellite. A key feature of the Space Shuttle system will be its capability of recovering payloads in orbit for repair or maintenance in space, or for return to Earth. The Space Shuttle orbiter, being developed by Rockwell International Corporation’s Space Division, will be able to return up to 14,545 kilograms (32,000 lbs.) of payload to Earth. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration plans to have Space Shuttle operational by 1980.”
Note the emblem of the United Nations on the satellite. Obviously then, the retrieval of it was because it didn’t work. At the most, if/when it was briefly/sporadically operational, it must have been in a passive capacity, only able to receive or merely reflect/divert ‘signals’, with no ‘transmit’ capability.
