Bordeaux, Port of the Moon, represents an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble, created in the Age of Enlightenment, whose values have continued up to the first half of the 20th century. Bordeaux is exceptional in the unity of its urban and architectural classical and neo-classical expression, which has not undergone any stylistic rupture over more than two centuries. Its urban form represents the success of philosophers who wanted to make towns into melting pots of humanism, universality and culture.

The picture represents the feelings and point of view of the intelligence behind the camera. This disease of our age is boredom and a good photographer must combat it. The way to do this is by invention – by surprise. When I say a good picture has surprise value I mean that it stimulates my thinking and intrigues me. The best way to achieve surprise quality is by avoiding clichés. Imitation is the greatest danger of the young photographer.

Painted ceramic benches representing all the provinces in Spain are arranged round the square.

It was built because of the Ibero-american Exhibition of 1929, held in Seville. Its creator was Aníbal González. He mixed a style inspired by the Renaissance with typical elements from the city: exposed brick, ceramics and wrought iron (worked by Domingo Prida). Its floor plan is semicircular. It is dominated by 2 towers, one on each side of the enclosed area, which frame the central building where the main rooms are. Between the two towers runs a network of galleries with an arcade of semicircular arches leading to exits in different parts of the square, where a fountain stands.

The image shows my youngest son's wrist identification band from when he was born in hospital. It's been hanging around the kitchen for ** years for some reason; I've never worked out why I haven't put it away safely. His birthday was two days ago, and meant that the year he was born we both ended up coming out of hospital on Valentine's day; the best valentine's present ever...! :-)

Image is less than 2.5" across, the wooden heart is around 1/3rd of inch.

This is the view of the Beartooth Plateau Ridge and Moon Creek Valley as seen fromm the Beartooth Highway. Rock Creek Canyon lies between Moon Creek Valley and the Highway. The pullout, from which the photo was taken, is located in Wyoming while most of the peaks in the photo lie in Montana. The features in the photo are from left to right; Spirit Mountain, Thunder Mountain, and the flanks of Mount Reargaurd on the Hellroaring Plateau. The rocks exposed here are part of an Archean metamorphic-igneous complex. They range in age between 3.6 and 2.7 billion years. These old rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed. The current topography was carved by glaciers that covered the plateaus and flowed down valleys.

Back rested and bright eyed and bushy tailed I am starting with one of my favorite views of Haarlem which is the backside approach to the Nieuwe Kerk the scene always appears to me as a picture waiting to be captured and a fitting end to my reworks of Haarlem.

Originally there stood a cramped and falling down gothic St. Anne's chapel which the Nieuwe Kerk replaced in 1649 by Jacob van Campen’s Gothic austere design as Haarlem’s first stone built protestant church but keeping the locally designed Renaissance tower by Lieven de Key by request of the city .

This style of protestant church was designed to focus the congregants attention on the pulpit instead of the ornamentation and the outside was to represent the temple keep in Jerusalem.

The Nieuwe Kerk also served a more practical reason as well, in the winter the Grote Kerk is freezing and there is not an easy way to heat it comfortably to make it bearable for the attendees so during the colder months of the year the congregation moves into a much smaller warmer space of the New Church.

I took this on Sept 13th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 28mm 1/10 sec f/16 ISO100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

The Thurisaz rune (ᚦ) represents the ability to confront obstacles, the strength to endure adversity, and the protection of mighty forces. Like the thorn it symbolizes, this rune reminds you that true strength lies not just in attack, but in defense and resilience. It suggests that you have the inner fortitude to face any challenge that stands in your way, urging you to stand firm and embrace your power.

Thurisaz is a rune of both conflict and transformation, showing that through struggle, growth is achieved. It calls on you to harness your inner strength wisely, channeling your energy to break through barriers and drive positive change. More than just a force of destruction, Thurisaz is a guardian—its presence in your path signifies that you are not alone, as unseen forces shield and guide you. Whether in battle, personal trials, or major life transitions, this rune is a reminder that your resilience is your greatest weapon, and through perseverance, victory is within reach.

"Thurisaz is the force that breaks and the strength that endures—embrace the storm, for it forges the warrior within."

This photo was a pivotal photo for me. Even though it is not as excellent or as sharp of a photo that I wish, wish, wish that I had taken, I recognize that the experience itself will always be something that I will cherish. How many people can say that they spent a half hour with a Lynx in the wild?

I think that every photographer probably has a “bucket list” of photos they would like to achieve. I too, have realized that I just might have one as well. I would love to photograph the Aurora Borealis, a Lion, an Eagle with a fish, an Owl with it’s supper, Lightning streaking across the sky, BigFoot, (Yup, I think I saw it - but that is another story), a Whale breaching, a Puffin, a Cougar, a Wolf, another Fox (I don’t want to get greedy though), an enchanted forest, deep in the woods with a mist rolling in, and perhaps, a Polar Bear - though I think I am done with bears for a while…

Oh, and I want to drive across Canada and take an amazing landscape that represents each province.

Well, I guess that’s it - for now anyway. Gotta go. My battery is charged and I have so much to see and so little time to get it into my camera…

Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral

1085 De la Cathedrale Street, Montreal

The Cathedral is the third largest church in Quebec and is Catholic denomination. It was built to replace the former St. Jacques Cathedral which had burned in 1852. Work began in 1875 it was completed in 1894 and consecrated as St. James Cathedral being the patron of the parish that it served.

However in 1955 at the request of Cardinal Paul-Emile Leger it was rededicated by Pope Benedict XV to Mary, Queen of the world. There have been a number of restoration works. In 2003 the enclosed porch and esplanade were restored. Another restoration in 2005 was the work done to Bishop Ignace Bourget’s statue on the outside of the building.

The Bishop’s Mortuary was completed in 1935, this was dedicated to Bishop Bourget where lays his tomb. The walls and floors are made from Italian marble.

The Chapel of the Assumption has a beautiful wood carved altar with gold leaf decoration. There is a wonderful painting of Our Lady painted in the 17th cent by a Spanish monk (unknown). The altar itself was discovered by Rololphe Messmer, an Austrian architect in France. He donated to the cathedral in 1994.

The Ciborium which covers the altar and is located under the dome was created in Rome in 1900 by Joseph-Arthur Vincent and is a reproduction of the famous one in St. Peter’s in Rome.

The Statues which atop the roof of the Cathedral represent the thirteen parishes of Montreal and again imitate those on St. Peter’s in Rome.

There are many treasures to see whilst there, there are many paintings, beautiful stained glass window and panels. The Great Organ was built by Casavant Freres and installed in 1893. The company also did the maintenance work in the 1950’s.

A truly wonderful Cathedral to visit.

¿Estaremos dispuestos a ello?.

Saludos.

Sadly not anymore for the LTB is a non-profit diy Arts, Music & Community venue - we’re a showcase for Coventry’s grassroots culture!

The premises were originally built in 1910 as prestigious showrooms for The Rover Company - and have had various uses since then. A Food Office for collecting ration stamps and council hq during wartime, then (following a major facelift in 1955) several department store occupations - then, most recently, The Litten Tree Pub.

Now under demolishment and redevelopment is planned, with the building set to be replaced as part of the City Centre South residential scheme - Coventry City Council has however granted us ‘meanwhile use’ foc, until 10/1/25.

It was a wonderful privilege for me, to go through this building, with the Coventry Photography Group and share with them their loss of this very fine community venue building, in which many of their photos were on display there and I was glad to provide some of my photos to a photographer (Bill Savage) who is writing a book and making a publication of this place; Titled: Shooting the Photographer!

Many thanks to you all, for your wonderful kind comments and compliments from you here, my dear good flicker friends !!!

This image represents one of the first photographs taken after nearly two months of not even picking up my camera. This is also my first upload here on flickr in over two months. It's been even longer since I've had the time to comment on everyone's photostreams. Now that life is settling down into a more manageable pace, I hope to begin catching up with all of you.

I titled this image Old Faithful because no matter the season, this creek always has good flow. On the day I shot this I had checked on a few other creeks and found them very dry and finally decided to go here - I knew there would be water and I knew the late afternoon light would be sweet.

With two Le Mans wins, dozens of grand prix victories, five Targa Florios, a Manufacturers’ Championship, and the build of some of the pre-war period’s most celebrated sports and luxury automobiles to its credit, it is no wonder that the Bugatti marque is regularly honored at world-class concours d’elegance and museums. The Molsheim, France-based brand is so esteemed that a commemoration of its 100th anniversary was never in doubt. So when the occasion arrived in 2009, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance duly pronounced Bugatti’s centenary as one of the event’s guiding themes.

This opportunity was not lost on Bugatti Automobiles SaS, the modern successor to Ettore Bugatti’s original Alsatian concern. The company’s signature product, the 1,001-horsepower Veyron 16.4, had spent years in careful development by the VW Group’s specialized engineers, and was received with justifiable acclaim by journalists and enthusiasts alike upon its 2005 introduction, redefining the benchmark for the modern hypercar in the process.

The Veyron was capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.46 seconds, en route to a top speed just over 408 km/h (nearly 254 mph). Built around a magnificent mid-mounted, quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16 engine with four valves per cylinder and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, it astonished the world with its surefootedness even at the most extreme speeds, enabled by a full-time Haldex all-wheel-drive system. The stopping power was stunning, as the Veyron was anchored by massive carbon-ceramic disc brakes with 15.7-inch discs and eight-piston, four-pad calipers up front, while 15-inch discs with six-piston, two-pad calipers were mounted at the rear. The alloy wheels, respectively 20 and 21 inches at the front and rear, were shod with special Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 PAX run-flat tires engineered specifically for the Veyron.

Three different drive modes governed the dizzying array of technology: a Normal mode, at which the ride height was 4.9 inches; a Handling mode that deployed the rear spoiler and lowered ride height to 3.15 inches; and a special, key-activated High-Speed mode that dropped ride height to 2.56 inches in front and 2.75 at the rear, while changing the spoiler position. Even the car’s ancillary systems, including no fewer than 10 radiators, were marvels of automotive engineering conceived to perform under the most demanding circumstances.

All of this was encased within an intricately hand-crafted structure, actually shorter in overall length than a modern Porsche 911, though riding on a longer 106.7-inch wheelbase, while being noticeably lower and wider than the benchmark German sports car of the day. It was instantly and definitively recognizable as the pinnacle product that it aspired to be—the modern Bugatti, a sporting speed machine that looked and performed like absolutely nothing else on the road.
