Maybe this makes up for the missing 2017 Ford GT. Maybe. Least the 720S showed up!

Route 720 is an emergency Rail Replacement service for London Overground that is operated by Sullivan Buses' TfL and non-TfL fleet, and it runs between Watford Junction (where this is taken) and Harrow, Bus Station. This photo showcases the TfL examples of Alexander Dennis Enviro 200s: Sullivans' AE11 (CJ61 SUL) and AE13 (KR61 SUL) are seen here at Watford Junction on the route. Taken 13/02/2023.

Another operator busy on rail replacement between Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly in February 2026 is municipal Warrington's Own Buses. It has several Volvo BZL battery-electric double-deckers at work. Regular punters along the A6 could be forgiven for mistaking these for Bee Network services given the similarity in livery, something I believe may not be a coincidence. Warrington was the only provider of zero-emission buses for this big rail replacement job as far as I could seen. Here 2020 (BU74 YTR) crawls along in dreadful traffic through Stockport shortly before arrival at the town's railway station. As with all BZLs in the UK it carries MCV bodywork.

Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!

Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?

The 47 is a service between Newark and Lincoln, that runs infrequently via an indirect route. Prior to the 1st of April, this was a PC Coaches route that occasionally had deckers on it, but from the 1st of April changed operators to Centrebus... sort of.

It's a new service in that Centrebus are now running into Lincoln on a route they didn't run before, but in extremely bizarre circumstances the PC Coaches 47 coexisted with it on some journeys, meaning two buses from two different operators were duplicating each other on some trips.

That's something I'm going to write about more in next time's upload as I try and figure out what the deal is, but for now here's a photo showing the Centrebus operation on its first day. I was pleased I got this here as a few months back I tried photting an identical looking Centrebus Enviro 200 in this exact spot on rail replacement, in the pouring rain, and got completely blocked by cars.

I've yet to see one of these Centrebus 47s that isn't delayed. This one was funny since I'd gone out in hope of seeing the outbound journey which leaves the bus station at 3, but it was running late enough that I instead saw it on the inbound run that should've passed fifteen minutes before. It was 15:00 exactly as I took this, so it should've been departing the bus station at this point.

One of the biggest rail replacement bus operations in the South for many years took place at Three Bridges, near Crawley, on Sunday 30th November 2025. The lines to Gatwick Airport, Brighton, Horsham and Lewes were all blocked which meant services were operated by buses and coaches from over 30 different operators who between them used well over 100 vehicles with a whopping 28 departures every hour! The day delivered a fantastic array of colourful livery schemes under a cloudless sky which, with just 3 weeks until the winter solstice, kept the assembled photographers on their toes looking for locations with minimal shadows. A thoroughly enjoyable day!

There was certainly a good variety of vehicles running through Basingstoke on rail replacement duties today (Good Friday 2023). The sun made an appearance which was good to see as well!

LX23BJK is seen making an appearance on Greater Anglia rail replacement from Bishops Stortford at Broxbourne Station. New to Kowloon Motor Bus company (KMB) in Hong Kong as a demonstrator in November 2018. However, due to various issues with safety inspections, it didn't enter service until September 2019. The month after, it was withdrawn the month after. Before leaving Hong Kong, it did road testing in early 2020. During 2021, it then moved to the UK with Ensign Bus. In 2023, it entered service after being refurbished and has been strictly used on the Z2 and rail replacement.

First Aberdeen 20021 passes behind the wall on Dyce Rail Replacement work.

Since Abellio have taken over the ScotRail franchise from First, there has been some significant changes to the network. The Dyce rail work will see the single track replaced offering increased frequency and faster times on the Inverness route while the arrival of ex First Great Western HST stock will offer increased capacity on services south of Aberdeen. 43143 is at Aberdeen for driver familiarisation wearing the new Inter City livery for ScotRail while the carriages remain in First livery.

Also in shot is Network Rail test train 37607. Nice to have a collection of older vehicles at Aberdeen all still perfectly capable of doing a useful job despite their age.

This bus was replacing the trains as there are no services across the Blue Mountains after a derailment Between Lawson and Linen 10kms of the railway track had to be pulled up. This bus was making its way to pick up more people and take them to Katoomba, which was the way we were heading.

VN37991 (BF62UYE) Rail Replacement at Clapham Junction

During September Stagecoach Yorkshire took the tender to operate the next phase of tram replacement, while works take place along the Blue Super-tram route. They have been using a batch of Ex-Lothian B7TL's on loan from Ensign to take on the operations.

Due to an incident the night before not all of these B7TL's could operate the route during the day I visited. I had the expectation of seeing a hybrid E400 on the BL3 so I was quite surprised to see the familiar face of WA10GHO, which was new to Exeter for the 57.

I first saw it heading towards Birley Moor Road where I got probably my favourite capture from the whole weekend. The autumnal leaves contrasts really well with the blue and white of the bus.

I have spent this weekend on rail replacement serving Gloucester, Stonehouse, Stroud, Kemble and Swindon with Southern Coach Lines Van Hool Astron T917 P15 VAR (ex Arriva the Shires YJ58 FHY). The first journey on Sunday 26th July 2020 commenced at Cheltenham Spa and the coach shows its length to good effect here. I shall be on the same duties next weekend.

Also engaged on Rail Replacement duties for Arriva Trains Wales is this Plaxton Paramount 3200 III-bodied Volvo B10M owned by Mainline of Gilfach Goch.

She was new to Excelsior of Bournemouth in 1990 as G506 EFX and subsequently operated in the Thamesdown fleet. Mainline has had her for 14 years and nowadays she is usually to be found operating school contracts. The current registration mark is her fourth.

A good bit of variety this morning! Shame I wasn't here in time for some of Acklams' newest - I'm sure the other folk will cover that neatly today. Now that newer generations and models are coming out, the second-hand Caetano Levante is beginning to make an appearance on the independent scene, as the Plaxtons before them did. And in this instance, it's a case of the apple not falling too far from the tree. Here, we have a former Go North East National Express coach! We have one of our own down at Anlaby Road now, too! I suppose these here sell for quite the pretty penny to independent operators...

Parked up and awaiting it's turn on rail replacement from Hull Interchange is Blue Sky Coaches of Leeds' BF63 ZPV, a 2013 Volvo B9R Caetano Levante 2 new to Go North East for their National Express coaching arm as their 7105, later sold to Glen Valley Tours of Wooler (I've been there!) but briefly going on loan to Parks of Hamilton for PSVAR work before winding up at Blue Sky Coaches.

I love that the newer Replacement bodies come in a Baggie that's labeled with the skin tone. This wasn't always the case....I think it was Gloss Con, where the dolls were in unmarked clear baggies. The 3 bodies in the center were unlabeled from 2014.

For Reference, the 1st body (L) is Cream.

The 5th Body (R) is Japan.

I think the 2nd & 3rd bodies are Cream.

I think the 4th is closest to Japan...but it almost looks between Cream-and-Japan. *shrugs*

Kicking off 2026 was a trip to Basingstoke on Sunday 4th January to witness the rail replacement buses running to Andover, Farnborough, Reading, Winchester and Woking. With 11 departures every hour, something interesting was bound to turn up sooner or later. Being sufficiently west of London, Basingstoke is predominantly 'coach country' rather than say, east of Woking where it's almost all buses running the rail replacement services.

Today's delights were a pair VDL Futuras from Star Tours of Wembley, a JKT International Irizar, a pair of former Excelsior Plaxton Elites now sporting Damory branding, the Barnes '100 Years' coach which has now been repainted into full fleet livery, and a pair of Mayflower Scania deckers. It was good to see the Mayflower pair back on the road again after the devastating vandal attack that crippled the fleet back in November 2025.

In total, 36 buses and coaches from 20 different operators passed our cameras in our 3 hour visit with Aldermaston Coach Lines and Barnes providing 5 each.

3 of 3.

It took about an hour to extricate Standard 2 78018 out of road 3 over to road 1 for the prep and to replace it in road 3 with 6990 Witherslack Hall, including dropping back with the 2 to take coal.

So here we see 6990 in road 3 (still blowing steam) with 5305LA's Class 33 diesel D6535 and the front end of Black 5 45305 ahead of it. The Jocko 13101 is far right stabled in the Up Through. By this time we had finished prepping 78018 and had over 100psi on the boiler. Time to relax & get a drink.

If things go to plan D6535 should look a lot more presentable in a few months after bodywork replacement and repainting. Internal work including welding parts of the floor to access the wiring looms has already been carried out.

Seen on rail replacement duties at Guildford in March 2020 is T&A of Byfleet Scania K410EB6 / Lahden Omniexpress C62FT YN16UAO. This coach was new to Hodgsons of Barnard Castle in 2016.

The first power from the start up that WC tried to replace was the 17 ex Soo GP30's. The 1948 Alco FA trucks they rode on were a pain and the group had never been rebuilt and there was some concern about "crispy" wiring in the electrical cabinets. Only three of the group received the full WC paint scheme which was a shame because they looked damn good in it. 713 leads one of its would be replacements on an X35 at Gould City. Most of these units were retired as the GP40's came on board but due to a nearly chronic power shortage a number of them were soon back in service. Five of them managed to stay in service until 2000 and IIRC three actually operated for a few weeks after the CN take over. 713 was one of the last to go. This was shot in December 1990 and at the time I'd already made peace with the fact I wasn't going to have many more GP30 opportunities...wrong again😊.
