Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!
Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?

There was a good amount of rail replacement action to photograph centred on Guildford in mid November 2019. Both buses and coaches were in use including Reptons of Little Bookham ADL Enviro200 B29F SL18REP.
Rail Replacement between Eastbourne and Hastings attracted Worthing Garage's Enviro 400 MMC 10962, SN 18 KOE, passing Westham Church on route to Hastings.

Wonder how it might have turned out in the movie, if they casted "the Oracle" as a gifted child., instead of the granny.
Note: constructive critiques accepted, i'd love to know my mistakes and ways to make better images in the future.

Yorkshire Tiger are running the 800 Dalesbus this year from Leeds to Hawes and hence a re-route via Draughton and Skipton By Pass onto the Grassington road. I've never known deckers go north of Grassington so this is somewhat interesting. First day Dennis Trident V313GLB was in use, although I have been told the usual bus maybe a Scania decker. Here it makes a right onto Valley Drive, Ben Rhydding near Ilkley.

The rather inclement weather had me pondering whether or not to venture out to Basingstoke today (05/01/2025) but in the end curiosity won again! A good few captures here for you to enjoy.
There is much still to be sorted out across GHA's vast operational area, but Howard's Travel have picked up a couple of Cheshire routes, and had them up and running within a day. This is the 289 between Altrincham, Knutsford and Northwich, a route which recently has been generally run with a tatty Solo, and has probably never seen anything as large as an Enviro 300 ! F15 HOW was heading away from Pickmere, bound for Knutsford and Altrincham.
It was down the A3 to Portsmouth & Southsea Station for some rail replacement action today (14/02/2026) with services running 3 times per hour from Portsmouth Harbour to both Barnham (Southern) and Petersfield (SWR) and back again.
As with my last visit here, the variety of bus liveries seen today was excellent with around 12 operators noted in the 3 hours we were present. Top picks today were Compass Travel's pair of 75-plate ADL E400 MMCs; 4 coaches from the BM/Mercian/Linburg fleets; and further E400 MMCs from Brighton & Hove, Tomorrows Travel, Wheelers Travel and Xelabus.
Another good morning and this time in some very rare sunshine!!

It was back to Basingstoke today (12/01/2025) for another look at the rail replacement operation with an impressive 13 departures an hour. A bit of a Barnes-fest certainly added brightness to an otherwise grey day.
Go North East's former Brighton & Hove Scania N94UD/East Lancs OmniDekka 6139 GX03SVY is pictured in fleet livery at Heworth Interchange, on a Metro replacement Service 901 to Brockley Whins, on February 3rd 2019.
The fourteen week contract for Rail Replacement on the Inverness line is worth a sizeable sum to First, although due to a significant number of drivers leaving Aberdeen depot on the back of the new contract being implemented in the next week, First have been forced to bring drivers up from England again much to the Douglas Hotels gain.
20307 at the depot ready to depart on replacement duties.
There was certainly a good variety of vehicles running through Basingstoke on rail replacement duties today (Good Friday 2023). The sun made an appearance which was good to see as well!
Kicking off 2026 was a trip to Basingstoke on Sunday 4th January to witness the rail replacement buses running to Andover, Farnborough, Reading, Winchester and Woking. With 11 departures every hour, something interesting was bound to turn up sooner or later. Being sufficiently west of London, Basingstoke is predominantly 'coach country' rather than say, east of Woking where it's almost all buses running the rail replacement services.
Today's delights were a pair VDL Futuras from Star Tours of Wembley, a JKT International Irizar, a pair of former Excelsior Plaxton Elites now sporting Damory branding, the Barnes '100 Years' coach which has now been repainted into full fleet livery, and a pair of Mayflower Scania deckers. It was good to see the Mayflower pair back on the road again after the devastating vandal attack that crippled the fleet back in November 2025.
In total, 36 buses and coaches from 20 different operators passed our cameras in our 3 hour visit with Aldermaston Coach Lines and Barnes providing 5 each.
It was nice to see Passenger Plus+ of Ashford supplying vehicles for the Rail Replacement duties. Irizar YN 67 VDV is in their usual well turned out condition in Fleet Street Brighton.
The LSRC's predecessor Detroit & Mackinac was historically home to a fleet of Alco diesels. The LSRC carried on that tradition into the 2000s until the fleet (minus the 469) was scrapped in 2011. All that remains of the once proud Alco fleet are the trucks in the foreground. Now, the 4300 series GP40-3 Alco killers sit stored, having proved themselves unreliable, alongside the Saginaw roundhouse, much like the retired Alco fleet did. Went to Salve Mater this weekend. A lot of buildings are renovated and sold as luxe appartments. But we managed to find a building they did not start with :)

I was trying to think of a legitimate reason why a Trent Leyland National should be in Kidsgrove with 'Derby' on the blind one Sunday morning. Maybe the driver has just retired to use the adjacent public toilets in the Town Hall embankment walls whilst his handful of passengers contemplate their journey or whether they'll make their onward connections ...
No, stop dreaming, this was yesterday, Sunday, as Ex Trent (formerly Alder Valley) preserved National KCG 627L prepares to depart for POPS day out to Shrewsbury.
Continuing the Rail Replacement theme, Lloyds Coaches of Machynlleth returned to providing the non-stop Cardiff to Bridgend service in place of Arriva Trains Wales and GWR services on 2nd January 2017, in the same way that the service was provided on 27th and 28th December 2016.
The company again provided two of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400-bodied Scanias that had been new to GHA Coaches for "Traws Cymru" Service T3 (Wrexham-Llangollen-Corwen-Bala-Dolgellau-Barmouth), and which Lloyds recently acquired from Ensignbus to continue the contract until a new lon-term contract is awarded.
SN15 ETD is captured at speed on the A4061 in Litchard heading for Bridgend, where she would connect with the onward GWR service to Swansea.
