On rail replacement, Renfield street, Glasgow 23/5/15

As part of service reductions on the EYMS York to Bridlington corridor from late May, service 46A will be withdrawn after service on 20/05/17. The 46A has its origins in the diversion of a return Mon-Fri 743 journey via Kirkburn and Tibthorpe in 2011 as a replacement for the northern leg of service 142. When the 743 and 744 were renumbered to 45 and 46 in January 2013 the diverted journey became a 46A and this was extended to operate on Saturdays when the northern half of the 142 was withdrawn in its entirety in May 2014 to coincide with the closure of Driffield depot. These changes will see Tibthorpe and Kirkburn lose their primary bus service, although the summer Sundays ME1 does run through Tibthorpe. More usefully, Kirkburn is a very short walk from the A614, albeit without stop flags for the 45/6 at present.

Volvo B7RLE/Wright Eclipse YX54FWP (342) was caught in Kirkburn this morning with the 09:05 Pocklington to Driffield 46A. Duties on these routes have tended to be covered by deckers, however current diagramming sees an Eclipse work off Woldgate College route 13W for this 46A to Driffield before operating to York as a 46. The saloon is then swapped off the 12:45 York-Driffield 46 in Pocklington to allow it to take up afternoon school work, being replaced by a decker which continues to Driffield before operating workings for Driffield School and Bishop Burton College. Alongside 338, 342 is one of two of the type at Pocklington, both arriving from Hull in 2015 as replacements for older B10BLEs.

Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!

Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?

Engineering work closed all lines on the Brighton Mainline between Gatwick and Redhill on Sunday 27 January 2019 with replacement bus services running between Gatwick Airport and both Redhill and East Grinstead where passengers will be able to get trains to East Croydon and London.

A huge number of vehicles were involved from a number of different operators and garages. Seen here at East Grinstead station waiting their turn to operate the shuttle to Gatwick Airport are Arriva London HV141 LT63 UJY, Arriva Kent & Surrey 6136 LF02 PSO "Sarah", Arriva London HA41 LK66 HBJ and Brighton & Hove 470 BK13 OAP "Dr Reginald Saxton". Continuing the Rail Replacement theme, Lloyds Coaches of Machynlleth returned to providing the non-stop Cardiff to Bridgend service in place of Arriva Trains Wales and GWR services on 2nd January 2017, in the same way that the service was provided on 27th and 28th December 2016.

The company again provided two of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400-bodied Scanias that had been new to GHA Coaches for "Traws Cymru" Service T3 (Wrexham-Llangollen-Corwen-Bala-Dolgellau-Barmouth), and which Lloyds recently acquired from Ensignbus to continue the contract until a new lon-term contract is awarded.

Plumstead’s 2011 (and I suspect 2012) diesel E400’s are due imminent replacement so I thought I’d have a ride down to Bluewater today, hoping a few were on the 96.

I needn’t have worried as about half the route was diesels of various batches, and I was spoiled for choice.

This is 19816 at Bluewater Bus Station after I returned from my coffee, one of the 19806-834 batch which were new for the 53 and still at their original shed. 16.9.25.

Kicking off 2026 was a trip to Basingstoke on Sunday 4th January to witness the rail replacement buses running to Andover, Farnborough, Reading, Winchester and Woking. With 11 departures every hour, something interesting was bound to turn up sooner or later. Being sufficiently west of London, Basingstoke is predominantly 'coach country' rather than say, east of Woking where it's almost all buses running the rail replacement services.

Today's delights were a pair VDL Futuras from Star Tours of Wembley, a JKT International Irizar, a pair of former Excelsior Plaxton Elites now sporting Damory branding, the Barnes '100 Years' coach which has now been repainted into full fleet livery, and a pair of Mayflower Scania deckers. It was good to see the Mayflower pair back on the road again after the devastating vandal attack that crippled the fleet back in November 2025.

In total, 36 buses and coaches from 20 different operators passed our cameras in our 3 hour visit with Aldermaston Coach Lines and Barnes providing 5 each.

not sure if I ever did upload a picture of the first one but it was just like this, sadly I dropped it just the other day and it smashed but thankfully my sister surprised me today with replacement it was the last one so I am happy.

It was down the A3 to Portsmouth & Southsea Station for some rail replacement action today (14/02/2026) with services running 3 times per hour from Portsmouth Harbour to both Barnham (Southern) and Petersfield (SWR) and back again.

As with my last visit here, the variety of bus liveries seen today was excellent with around 12 operators noted in the 3 hours we were present. Top picks today were Compass Travel's pair of 75-plate ADL E400 MMCs; 4 coaches from the BM/Mercian/Linburg fleets; and further E400 MMCs from Brighton & Hove, Tomorrows Travel, Wheelers Travel and Xelabus.

Another good morning and this time in some very rare sunshine!!

City Circle provided several Scania Irizar coaches for today's rail replacement job between Three Bridges and Brighton. K410 I6s YN18 SVL carries CIE Tours livery. Sadly, with the advent of the new PSVAR for rail replacement services, luxury coaches like this will become rarer on such work although the Kings Ferry did have a number of quality coaches on today's job.
