On the face of it, a former National Express Caetano Levente-bodied Volvo or Scania. However, Williams Coaches of Brecon 299 DMW is one of only 20 Mercedes OC500RFs with Caetano CT650 bodywork in the UK.
She was new to a County Galway operator in 2012 as 12-G-3507, but was imported to the UK in 2014, and re-registered WO12 KBE. She then operated for five years for Moving People of Accrington before being acquired by Williams in 2019.
The advent of PSVAR has affected the specification of coaches used on Rail Replacement contracts, and therefore she has been Williams' regular choice on a longer term contract between Swansea and Shrewsbury over the currently closed Heart of Wales Line,

The Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr Lines were replaced by buses between Pontypridd and Cardiff. These were provided by First West of England as a 15 vehicle operation, comprising 13 operational diagrams and two vehicles on stand-by at Cardiff Central. The company produced nine Alexander Dennis E40D MMCs, three Wright StreetDecks and three Wright Eclipse Gemini-bodied Volvo B9TLs.

During the last night a temperature low of 5-7C was forecast so the grass frost this morning was quite a surprise for us.
Image taken earlier today at the entrance to our garden. Apricot-shade begonias are still flowering and many dramatic leaf colours of autumn are now arriving. Seasonal colour change in leaves is especially provided by our acers and azaleas and will increase during the next 7-14 days.
We look forward to taking more garden photos during the next few days.
Furthermore we will be delighted to share our garden with visitors when we hold our autumn garden for charity on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 October 2019 from 10am - 5pm. All funds raised will go to the ngs (National Garden Scheme) charity.
We are proud that in May 2019 we received 1080 enthusiastic visitors during our weekend opening, raising more then £4000 for the ngs charity.
Over the years since May 2006 we have been amazed to welcome more than 15,200 visitors to our garden open days.
Apart from the UK, we have been honoured to receive garden visitors from 41 countries :- Australia, Bahamas, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Eire, Eritrea, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Haiti, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Italy, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Malaysia, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA and Vietnam.
We have been working with Macmate on a new replacement website for our Four Seasons Garden. Although work is still in progress in some areas of the new website, we are delighted to announce that new website has now been launched. It has the same URL as our previous website:

Kicking off 2026 was a trip to Basingstoke on Sunday 4th January to witness the rail replacement buses running to Andover, Farnborough, Reading, Winchester and Woking. With 11 departures every hour, something interesting was bound to turn up sooner or later. Being sufficiently west of London, Basingstoke is predominantly 'coach country' rather than say, east of Woking where it's almost all buses running the rail replacement services.
Today's delights were a pair VDL Futuras from Star Tours of Wembley, a JKT International Irizar, a pair of former Excelsior Plaxton Elites now sporting Damory branding, the Barnes '100 Years' coach which has now been repainted into full fleet livery, and a pair of Mayflower Scania deckers. It was good to see the Mayflower pair back on the road again after the devastating vandal attack that crippled the fleet back in November 2025.
In total, 36 buses and coaches from 20 different operators passed our cameras in our 3 hour visit with Aldermaston Coach Lines and Barnes providing 5 each.
Portsmouth & Southsea today (09/02/2025) to watch the rail replacement movements. Over 20 buses and coaches were utilised to run services between Portsmouth Harbour and Fareham (GWR), Havant (SWR) and Barnham (Southern). A lot of variety out today!
Seen passing under Erdington Station Bridge is the sole E200 in this fleet, a regular on Rail Replacement work like here working a service from Birmingham New Street to Four Oaks. This was new to Leasks of Lerwick as R20JLS and is a less common 6-cylinder engined example.
Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!
Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?
The May Bank Holiday weekend saw railway engineering work taking place, affecting services between New Street and Coventry (Sat, Sun, Mon) and New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley (Sat, Mon). Between New Street and Coventry there were express services with mostly luxury coaches, and slow services operated by National Express and The Green Bus vehicles.
TheGreenBus' T201 CLO (107) is seen parked at Coventry Train Station, having arrived in with a slow service from Birmingham New Street. The service operated fairly frequently, and supplied some nice vehicles, such as this rather nice Trident. T201CLO was new in August 1999 to Metroline London Northern, as their TA101. When TA 101 left London, it was acquired by the Green Bus. It is a Dennis Trident 2/Alexander ALX400.
I was trying to think of a legitimate reason why a Trent Leyland National should be in Kidsgrove with 'Derby' on the blind one Sunday morning. Maybe the driver has just retired to use the adjacent public toilets in the Town Hall embankment walls whilst his handful of passengers contemplate their journey or whether they'll make their onward connections ...
No, stop dreaming, this was yesterday, Sunday, as Ex Trent (formerly Alder Valley) preserved National KCG 627L prepares to depart for POPS day out to Shrewsbury.
The LSRC's predecessor Detroit & Mackinac was historically home to a fleet of Alco diesels. The LSRC carried on that tradition into the 2000s until the fleet (minus the 469) was scrapped in 2011. All that remains of the once proud Alco fleet are the trucks in the foreground. Now, the 4300 series GP40-3 Alco killers sit stored, having proved themselves unreliable, alongside the Saginaw roundhouse, much like the retired Alco fleet did. Continuing the Rail Replacement theme, Lloyds Coaches of Machynlleth returned to providing the non-stop Cardiff to Bridgend service in place of Arriva Trains Wales and GWR services on 2nd January 2017, in the same way that the service was provided on 27th and 28th December 2016.
The company again provided two of the Alexander Dennis Enviro400-bodied Scanias that had been new to GHA Coaches for "Traws Cymru" Service T3 (Wrexham-Llangollen-Corwen-Bala-Dolgellau-Barmouth), and which Lloyds recently acquired from Ensignbus to continue the contract until a new lon-term contract is awarded.
SN15 ETD is captured at speed on the A4061 in Litchard heading for Bridgend, where she would connect with the onward GWR service to Swansea.
It was down the A3 to Portsmouth & Southsea Station for some rail replacement action today (14/02/2026) with services running 3 times per hour from Portsmouth Harbour to both Barnham (Southern) and Petersfield (SWR) and back again.
As with my last visit here, the variety of bus liveries seen today was excellent with around 12 operators noted in the 3 hours we were present. Top picks today were Compass Travel's pair of 75-plate ADL E400 MMCs; 4 coaches from the BM/Mercian/Linburg fleets; and further E400 MMCs from Brighton & Hove, Tomorrows Travel, Wheelers Travel and Xelabus.

Snowy Weekend in England -
Much of England experienced a touch of snow this weekend. Starting from midnight, heavy snowfall caused airport runways to close and prompted several warnings. While many woke up to snow-covered landscapes, others reported heavy rain, and some even enjoyed clear skies. Despite the weather, it was confirmed that the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United would proceed, though many matches in other leagues were postponed.
In my local area of Leicestershire, the morning brought thick fog and around 7-8 cm of snow covering everything. Having packed my camera bag the night before, I quickly had breakfast, cleared the snow off my car, and headed to Bradgate Park! However, upon arrival, I was met with an unexpected light sleet, and the melting snow hinted at insufficient cold to keep it frozen.
Still, I managed to capture a few shots! Two wide-angle photos showcase Bradgate Park and the River Lin partially covered in snow. My favorite little bird, the robin (or redbreast), saved the day with its generous poses. I hope the close-up shots of this curious bird, gazing at me with its black, inquisitive eyes while perched on the snow, catch your interest.
Wishing you all a lovely Sunday evening!
Robins and Winter Conditions
Robins (Erithacus rubecula), commonly found across Europe, are resilient birds but face significant challenges during winter, especially in snowy conditions. Here are some key points:
Struggle to Find Food:
Robins primarily feed on insects, worms, and berries, often foraged from the ground. Snow-covered landscapes limit their access to these essential food sources, making survival more difficult.
Increased Energy Needs:
Cold temperatures demand more energy to maintain body heat. If robins cannot meet this energy requirement, their chances of survival drop significantly.
Human Support:
People can aid robins by placing seeds, oats, berries, and dried fruits in bird feeders during the winter months. Providing fresh water is equally vital, as natural water sources may freeze.
Connection to Snow:
Robins become more visible against snowy backdrops due to their vibrant red breast, making them a favorite subject for photographers.
These challenges highlight the delicate balance of winter ecosystems and the need to support wildlife during harsh conditions.
I've captured some unforgettable moments with my camera, and I hope you feel the same joy viewing these images as I did while shooting them.

Lothian Country's 844 MXZ 1754, a Voith/ Volvo B9TL Wright Eclipse Gemini, on service 275 Broxburn via Uphall Station and Uphall.
The 275 has since been withdrawn and has been withdrawn since Sunday the 5th of June 2022. The new service 276 acts like a partial replacement for the 275 which has been rerouted to serve the following areas: Pumpherston and Ladywell, Ash Grove in Blackburn and some of the Wester Inch estate in Bathgate.
844 MXZ 1754 was new to Lothain Buses as 848 SN57 DDU along with 840 - 843 and 845 - 875 in 2007.
In 2018, 841 - 850 were withdrawn from service to be refurbished for use in there Lothian Motorcoaches fleet which operated a mixture of private hire services and coach trips to locations such as Ibrox, Parkhead, Falkirk and England.
In November 2019, 844 - 850 were all reintroduced into service and were sent to Lothian Country to increase the capacity of services 275 and 280 which were predominantly ran by single decker vehicles at the time. 844 - 850 operated various Lothian Country services with Lothian Country advertisement around the front and rear destination displays.
In March 2020, 844 - 850 were taken off service again due to the Coronavirus lockdown because they did not have driver protection shields so they needed to get fitted.
In July 2020, they all re-entered service with Lothian Country with their driver protection shields and were predominantly used on service 275 and X17.
In early August 2020, 841 - 843 were transferred to Lothian Country from Lothian Motorcoaches and were painted into Lothian Country's livery, these were repainted prior to the Coronavirus lockdown and were intended to enter service in April 2020 and 844 - 850 were planned to get repainted too but due to the pandemic it made the idea of them being repainted obsolete.
In late August 2020, 844 - 850 were transferred from Lothian Country to East Coast Buses (another subsidiary of Lothian Buses) and were initially used on the school run until eventually entering normal daily services such as the 104, 113, 124, 139, and 140.
In September 2020, East Coast Buses 942 (SN10 DKO) had returned after a repair from a low bridge collision resulting it a deroofing at the Western General Hospital in July of 2017, this resulted in one of ex Motorcoach B9's becoming surplus and one was temporarily transferred to Lothian Buses and operated service 48 between Fort Kinnaird and Gorebridge.
In October 2020, 850 returned to East Coast Buses from the very temporary transfer.
In May 2021, 841 - 843 were all transferred to East Coast Buses to aid increase capacity of the school buses, this was originally intended as a loan but Wright Eclipse 2's 171 - 175 were transferred from Lothian Buses to Lothian Country in turn making 841 - 843 a permanent member of the East Coast Buses fleet (until their inevitable withdrawal).
This is a list of the ex Lothian Motorcoaches B9TL's and including previous registrations:
Fleet No. - Regi - Previous Regi
841 - MXZ 1751 - SN57 DDK
842 - MXZ 1752 - SN57 DDL

UPDATE LOG, Jun22 - Jul22:
841 and 842 still remain in Lothian Country livery with Lothian Country fleet names, this is subject to change.
843, 844, 845, 847 and 860 have all been repainted into the new shared livery between Lothian Country and East Coast Buses (with ECB fleet names).
846 and 848 are currently getting prepared at Seafield for repaint at Ferrymill.
849 is the only remaining Gemini, out of this batch of 10, to still carry the Lothian Motorcoaches Livery, similar to was 844 is displaying here minus the Lothian Country branding.
The information I've provided above is correct from the date of upload, Friday the 8th of July 2022.
This photo was taken on Saturday the 8th of August 2020 at Pumpherston Turning Circle.
I'll link photographs by other photographers of the other buses in this batch in the comment section in their current state from 08/07/2022 and their original state from 2007 (when in the Harlequin livery) and a few of when they were painted into the "swoops" livery for some variety.
