the replacement bridge for the poor old Patullo is chugging along, If you zoom into the center of this photo you can see the on ramp is now being covered. I attempt to take photos each time we cross but sometimes fail due to weather or just feeling blah or tired, not an easy building site to photograph !
67801 showing "Abellio Rail Replacement" in the display although 69123 was showing "Scotrail Rail Replacement" and 62149 just "Not in service".
Don't recognise the driver, assume this one of the many drafted in from elsewhere in First.
It was down the A3 to Portsmouth & Southsea Station for some rail replacement action today (14/02/2026) with services running 3 times per hour from Portsmouth Harbour to both Barnham (Southern) and Petersfield (SWR) and back again.
As with my last visit here, the variety of bus liveries seen today was excellent with around 12 operators noted in the 3 hours we were present. Top picks today were Compass Travel's pair of 75-plate ADL E400 MMCs; 4 coaches from the BM/Mercian/Linburg fleets; and further E400 MMCs from Brighton & Hove, Tomorrows Travel, Wheelers Travel and Xelabus.
Another good morning and this time in some very rare sunshine!!
Portsmouth & Southsea today (09/02/2025) to watch the rail replacement movements. Over 20 buses and coaches were utilised to run services between Portsmouth Harbour and Fareham (GWR), Havant (SWR) and Barnham (Southern). A lot of variety out today!

It was back to Basingstoke today (12/01/2025) for another look at the rail replacement operation with an impressive 13 departures an hour. A bit of a Barnes-fest certainly added brightness to an otherwise grey day.

DLE11 (SN60EBM) is an example of 25 heaps. (DLE26 is not a heap). It is seen on the rail replacement service, on loan to United Motorcoaches, at West Ruislip. The bus never went above 40mph.

The income from the Aberdeen to Dyce Rail Replacement contract should go a long way to plugging the loss made by the March drivers strike. However, if the driver shortage continues then that income too will bypass First as independent operators take their share and hotel costs eat into it. First have apparently stopped using the Douglas Hotel to put up drivers from down south and are now using the cheaper Premier Inn though this is less appealing to visiting drivers.
23306 sits at the Dyce terminus, at least the Rail Replacement is providing a use for the redundant Dyce terminal now the 80 service has been withdrawn.
I'm not saying they are the same, but they do share common attributes. They will do until I can find an identical pair of the old faithful's anyway.
Well, the long anticipated "Woking Weekender" finally arrived and delivered a magnificent array of vehicles operating rail replacement services out to Weybridge, Guildford, Aldershot and Basingstoke throughout both days. No less than 34 different operators provided in excess of 70 buses, coaches and minibuses across both days including three 75-plates. And Burrows Coaches had "both" their East Lancs Darts out - EDIT - STOP PRESS! On Saturday it was LK55ADX and on Sunday it was J8UFX - first with the news!!
Now then, Woking is not the photographer's friend at this time of year due to high-rise office blocks surrounding the station area. Saturday started wet, eased off but remained rather gloomy all day, and Sunday was almost a write-off with clear blue skies and low sun. The one sunny spot we found came with a time limit as a ruddy great big lamppost shadow edged its way into shot therefore limiting use of that corner. All in all though, it proved to be a belter!! Maybe have it in the Spring next time please Network Rail?

Close enough
Is this pleather bomber exactly like my old one? No. It’s missing the puffed sleeves but has a superior collar. I’m satisfied with the replacement.
Once upon a time, in December 2011, I had an epic thrifting day with Reva of Rags 2 Roses. We hit the Cheviot Goodwill and my style changed forever. She convinced me to buy both a pair of ankle boots and denim shorts. I was sure that ankle boots made my legs look stumpy and that I was too old for short shorts with leggings. She gave me the encouragement to try and now both styles are a staple in my #ootd. I didn’t need much encouragement to also purchase a pleather bomber from H&M, but that also became a frequent element in my outfits. I’m wearing all three of those pictures in this outfit post.
I wore both the faux leather boots and jacket until the PVC coating cracked and flaked off. I replaced the boots with a leather pair from Vionic and the jacket with a leather motorcycle style from BCBG Max Azria. While the boots satisfied, I missed the easy bomber shape of my old jacket.
The thrift gods were with me, again, six years later, because I found a “new” pleather bomber for $8 at the Salvation Army. I intend to wear this one until the plastic, once again, cracks and flakes away.
Jacket, C Magic (thrifted). Dress, Old Navy (thrifted). Leggings, Mono B. Boots, Vionic. Earrings, Francesca’s.

A few years ago, when our cat Briggs was on her last leg, this sweet little guy showed up. It seemed he was meant to become our next cat, and we started calling him Replacement Kitty. Briggs was not impressed. His expression was perpetually grumpy due to his hair lip, he was missing a testicle and a rear toe, his voice always cracked, and his tail had been broken at least once. But everything had healed, and all he wanted to do was sit in my lap and purr. He found an open door down the street before Briggs finally kicked the bucket. We still see him occasionally. But they don't call him Replacement Kitty.
Kicking off 2026 was a trip to Basingstoke on Sunday 4th January to witness the rail replacement buses running to Andover, Farnborough, Reading, Winchester and Woking. With 11 departures every hour, something interesting was bound to turn up sooner or later. Being sufficiently west of London, Basingstoke is predominantly 'coach country' rather than say, east of Woking where it's almost all buses running the rail replacement services.
Today's delights were a pair VDL Futuras from Star Tours of Wembley, a JKT International Irizar, a pair of former Excelsior Plaxton Elites now sporting Damory branding, the Barnes '100 Years' coach which has now been repainted into full fleet livery, and a pair of Mayflower Scania deckers. It was good to see the Mayflower pair back on the road again after the devastating vandal attack that crippled the fleet back in November 2025.
In total, 36 buses and coaches from 20 different operators passed our cameras in our 3 hour visit with Aldermaston Coach Lines and Barnes providing 5 each.

WEEK 23 – Southaven Walmart, 2015 Remodel (II)
In this shot we’re looking down the center of the entire store, crossing through the apparel departments all the way over to grocery on the right-side wall, where you can see just a hint of its signature Impact-style yellow paint and orange signage. Here in apparel, this actionway actually looks quite nice, with the floor tile seemingly freshly shined and looking good, reflecting that light from the ceiling and the skylights. Both it and the woodgrain floors in the apparel departments themselves look to be in pretty good shape, and they should: they both were replaced with entirely new stuff in the 2015 remodel, and this pic was taken only one year later. These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
And that's why I'm not a fan of backlighting photos...
The weekend of the 4th/5th January 2020 has seen the railway line between Cheshunt and Hertford East/Stansted Airport closed for engineering works, with Greater Anglia providing replacement transport.
Relatively far off from home, Arriva Southend ADL Enviro400MMC SN66WHT (6500) heads along Stansted Road in Bishops Stortford working a northbound replacement to Stansted Airport 04/01/20
Seen arriving at Gatwick Airport on a Rail Replacement from Guildford was South East Omnibus of Reigate YX58 DVA. This Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 was new to Transdev London United in September 2008 as No.DE1, later becoming DE20001 with RATP Group. I believe it is currently on lease to new operator South East Omnibus from the Bromley Bus Preservation Group.

With nothing better to do, I headed over to Woking to see what was on rail replacement today (Sat 28/12/2024). New operator Chaseside turned up with one their smart-liveried E400 deckers, Fairmanns Travel had their recently repainted Dart/Pointer out, TK Travel showed off their recent rebrand livery, and a cheerful yellow decker of Chilternbus brightened up a rather dull day. Oh, and a bonus on the short walk to Spoons for a much needed coffee - a Safeguard Tempo!! Not a bad day in the end.
The Chaseside fleet is:
201 W44CSP (LK08FNA);
202 W55CSP (LK08FNC);
203 W66CSP (LJ08CVS).

The rather inclement weather had me pondering whether or not to venture out to Basingstoke today (05/01/2025) but in the end curiosity won again! A good few captures here for you to enjoy.
Last shot of the Day. Southern Transit TA386, TA1, S&D 504 and TA406 await their next runs in the Eastbourne Station Cab Road.

After nearly two years since the original building was destroyed by a tornado, this replacement Whataburger restaurant opened on July 29, 2019 at 3:00 PM. At the time of its opening, this became the largest Whataburger location operating in Oklahoma.
The Whataburger building that previously occupied this site was severely damaged by a tornado on August 6, 2017 and was demolished on August 15, 2017. The restaurant was open and serving customers at the time that the tornado hit.
The tornado-ravaged Whataburger building started out as a Burger Chef. When it was converted to Whataburger, an A-frame was added to give the building a signature Whataburger appearance.

One of the biggest rail replacement bus operations in the South for many years took place at Three Bridges, near Crawley, on Sunday 30th November 2025. The lines to Gatwick Airport, Brighton, Horsham and Lewes were all blocked which meant services were operated by buses and coaches from over 30 different operators who between them used well over 100 vehicles with a whopping 28 departures every hour! The day delivered a fantastic array of colourful livery schemes under a cloudless sky which, with just 3 weeks until the winter solstice, kept the assembled photographers on their toes looking for locations with minimal shadows. A thoroughly enjoyable day!
There was certainly a good variety of vehicles running through Basingstoke on rail replacement duties today (Good Friday 2023). The sun made an appearance which was good to see as well!
