Most plastic wallet packagings of the 80s aged very badly. Heat, sunlight, humidity, glue, bad storage etc, for those that were not discarded in the first place. At last we can preserve those games correctly.

It was 10:30pm, a couple nights after I put up my big response to the ransom note. Someone knocked on our door, and I had no idea who it was! Scary at this time of night with in my neighborhood, where my door has been kicked in before. I demanded my sister's boyfriend go answer the door for me, but it turned out to be a neighbor from down the street.
He came bearing gifts of Unicorn!!! His name was Josh, and he said he was sad that our unicorn was stolen, so he made us a new one. He apologized for the frame, he said it was the best one he could get, to which I said NO PROBLEM! You didn't have to make this! I proceeded to show him how the unicorn would go will with my cutesy-rainbow tchotchkes in my bedroom, complete with carebears and brightly colored salt cupcake salt shakers.
It appears to be color pencil, and it's awfully cute! Of course, this is nothing like the original, and its smaller, so it doesn't really make sense where the old one was. (Plus I don't want another unicorn stolen....). I still mourn my old unicorn, but it's nice to see some of the goodwill of the neighborhood!

A few days ago, my working hard disk died. I had solid backups, so it was really just an inconvenience and unwanted expense. The drive was nearing 4 years old, which seems to be a point at which the mechanical bits start to become unreliable. I've been satisfied with the general quality of Western Digital hardware, including and especially the attention to heat management and passing SMART diagnostic data through to the host computer where I can get pre-failure warnings. Regretfully I didn't get them last time. SMART diagnostics when paired up with the "Disk Utility" distributed with Ubuntu and other Linux distributions can be instructed to perform heavy disk tests and report back on drive vitals. This might be more common now than in the past, when external drive chipsets did not pass SMART information from the disk to the host.
Also, this model has a really nifty e-ink display.
It's nice enough for $2000. A little more room inside, which is nice. And four doors, which is much more convenient.
