Why build an automotive museum? Because one way or another, our lives are touched by the automobile. We remember our parents’ cars, the ones we traveled in with family, the ones we borrowed for our first car date, the first ones we bought. The fast cars, the junkers, the modified ones and the ones we rebuilt—all of them are tied to us in memory. We even dream of cars.

William E. Backer, former owner of Backer Potato Chip Company in Fulton, Missouri, looked back in time and found that a vintage automobile was a thing of fascination. His memories were of old country roads and two lane highways. Bill Backer was an engineer and a builder who loved to tinker. Having built a successful potato chip company, he looked back at the cars that were part of his childhood. Shortly after, he owned a Canadian 1924 Dodge Touring. Dark blue with black fenders and a cloth top. Bill drove his family around the back country roads of Callaway County, Missouri and felt himself touching fading memories.

Not long after he collected the Dodge, Bill had a 1909 Ford Model T. Soon after that, a 1930 Model A. Then a 1929 Cord, a 1931 Rolls Royce Phantom II, a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, and so on. By the mid 1990’s, the number of classic autos in the collection neared 100. Bill found a home for many of his classic cars in an old retail building in Fulton. The Auto World Museum Foundation was formed and a classic car museum was opened to the public. Ten years later, in 2006, the automobile museum was moved to its current home at 200 Peacock Drive in Fulton. It is a building dedicated to the history of vintage and modern automobiles as well as the history of Callaway County and Fulton, Missouri.

After his passing in 2008, his daughter, Vicki McDaniel, assumed leadership of the museum and the collection of cars. Since then, the collection of vintage autos has changed a little. However, her primary passion is for the presentation of antique cars and modern ones in a place that everyone can visit.

The presentation of cars and staging of the museum is the vision of Tom K. Jones, Artistic Director of TKJ Designs in Fulton, Missouri. His concept for the museum was a movement through time and a portrayal of the history of Callaway County, Missouri. Auto World Museum is a stage—a movement through history. Its deep black curtains, scenes from back when, panels of advertising and memorabilia will take you through a history of motion in time. At first, you will visit a period not that long ago, although some say 100 years is a long time. As you move in a clockwise direction through the museum, you will find enticing displays. The simplicity of family drives in the convertible. The decadence of Hollywood and its fancy cars. The sights and sounds of the drive-in as you watched from the comfort of your Studebaker or Corvair. You will ponder when gas prices were really, really low. Finally, you will find yourself nearing the future, with displays of alternative fuel vehicles.

Auto World Museum will spark your curiosity. We hope that you will find that our collection of vintage and modern automobiles fascinates you the way that it did Bill Backer. We hope you will continue the journey with us as we add to the collection over time. We would like to thank William Harrison for his dedication to the research on the autos in the museum.

Remembering WW2, those brave souls too young to vote but not too old to fight and pay the ultimate price so that we may live in a free world.

Wednesday this week (26th) would have been our 13th anniversary. Here she is in 2015, in the days before she ruptured her cruciate ligament, when she was still allowed up on her perch at the window. My lovely girl.

Remember Jesus. "The impossible is possible with the power of God."

Remember who you are and what you stand for, don't let anyone try to make you forget.

I was tagged by anneapple . Go check out her photostream, she's awesome :)

1. I'm a vegetarian... and I don't like vegetables. I'll eat some (bean sprouts, carrots, cucumber, corn, lettuce that's not shredded, sometimes tomatoes and spinach) but I hate everything else and have to force whatever I can down and try not to gag.

2. I cried when I looked up Carl Sagan on Wikipedia and found out he was dead.

3. I passionately hate Stephen Harper, as well as several other Canadian politicians. If Harper or someone like him still "runs" the country by the time I finish my undergrad, I plan to emigrate.

4. I love NYC!

5. I'm short. Somewhere around 5' or 5'1"... my goal is to grow above 5'3", but it's starting to seem unlikely. My tripod is taller than me.

6. Despite the fact that my mom is the owner of a Spa/Salon and I live above it, I haven't had nail polish on since my grade 8 graduation... it was pale pink and barely noticeable.

7. goes along with 6... I am not a girly girl. I'm becoming more okay with shopping for clothes, but I hate chick flick romance movies such as Dear John. I also don't like romance novels.

8. No matter how much sunscreen I put on, I still seem to get really tanned in the summer. People mistake me for being Indian/ Italian/ Middle Eastern... usually Italian. I'm actually a mix of British, Scottish and Irish.

9. The string on my finger was insanely difficult to tie on.

10. I feel really nervous walking around with a camera hanging from my neck strap. I'm not afraid that someone's going to steal it, I'm terrified the strap will break and my camera will fall.

Since I don't have many flickr friends, I'm just going to tag my mutual contacts :).

Your kids are now full grown

With the love and pride you should have known

Back when your country brought you home

Still now you fight the tears and face your fears each day

But the horrors of fact won't go away

For 2300 MIA's or POW's to this day

We remember and pray for you...

Remember me Tomorrow

When the sun came up that early morning she heard them squeal in delight

it's a starfish.. it's a pinwheel.. it looks like a flower ... all three of you are right!

the sunbeams began to shine through the trees and cast a glow across the sky

she watched the kidlets stomp around in the snow and then pretend to fly

gramma, why are the clouds purple today? ..maybe someone spilled the juice

not me, not me, not me they chimed.. goodness it must have been the goose

their giggles echoed off the trees and faded slowly into the grape stained cloud

i can jump.. i can twirl.. i can fly... she grinned at them.. you make me so proud

you are growing right before my eyes.. it won't be long you'll be grown ups

i will be a carpenter, i want to be a nurse, i will be a teacher.. oh my little pups

they played some more in the morning snow..it was time at the end of their stay

their time seemed to go so quickly.. there were never enough hours in their day

there will come a day when you are off in the world...seeing all there is to see

if we grow up and go away and see the world like you say...where will you be

she dug in the snow and found three little rocks.. these are for you to borrow

what are these gramma? ... my heart stones... so you remember me tomorrow

Almost (but not quite) forgotten Union graves buried deep in the woods, near where they fell in battle at Okolona Mississippi in 1864 during the American Civil War.

236/365 Remember me.

"Go away, while staying in it you feel like in the center of the world, it never does change anything, then you are, a year, two, and when you come back everything changed, the common thread is broken." You don't want to find, your things are no longer.

You have to leave you long time, many years; to find your return to your people, the land where you were born. But it is not now possible. Go away. I don't want to hear more. I just want to hear from you.

And when everything remains equal, the same smell and the way that you feel. Your memories flood your mind".

For this image inspires me in the film "Cinema Paradiso" a fantastic film.

236/365 Recuerdame

Remember Jesus. "Can't get enough of your love."

...but please don't neglect all the others......

It has been 18 months since Roney's cold-blooded murder.

May he have found peace wherever his journey has taken him.......

Remembering your scent, wherever I saw a flower,

I smelled it and tears began to pour.

Wherever I saw a cypress in the meadow,

I kissed its feet in memory of you.

Two years today my Richard gained his angel wings. Miss him every minute of every day, he was the love of my life and my sole mate.

It was a sad day when the Soo 60's hit the storage line back in 2009. Rumors said they were never to return, but thankfully that rumor stayed a rumor. In March of 2010 I successfully snagged my first well lit photos of a reactivated pair with my new D3000. Soo 6025 and 6052 race east down the main through Minnesota City, with a hogger that seems about as happy with the 60's return as I was! Soo 6025 was one of the first to be rebuilt and repainted into CP dress, so I'm sure glad I was able to sang some shots while it was still a Soo.

I have wanted to do this image for months in readiness for D Day for my dad who you see in this picture, but life gets in the way and before you know it the day has passed BUT never forgotten.

So I dedicate this image to my wonderful Dad who would have stood and saluted those that lost their lives.

By the trenches I hold my breath

waiting for my death.

Here the gunshots and the bombs

is this where our soldiers belong.

Now I lay in the grass

waiting for the war to pass.

Wear a poppy on this day

for several minutes stop your play

on the eleventh stand and pray

Apart from the men at war you see in the background all images are from my own stock

The Lego Minifigs remember their fallen comrades from past and present.

It's one of the truest gifts of nature.

There seemed to be no sign of the smoke from the wildfires in B.C. and Alberta on 24 July 2017, so I made the most of it and went for an afternoon drive SE of the city. First, I wanted to call in at the Saskatoon Farm and find a few colourful flowers to photograph and then I wanted to check on birds at Frank Lake - a good job I don't make lists of what I see, as this bird list would have been ridiculously short!

The Saskatoon Farm was absolutely packed! It was U-pick season and this is obviously extremely popular. I had a fairly quick wander around, including taking a photo or two of the unusual-looking Helmeted Guineafowl. I love their black and white, polka dot body feather pattern. Also love their Sunflowers, especially the orange ones.

From there, I drove the short distance to Frank Lake, which was totally deserted - no people, practically no birds, either. Where were they all? I've had such bad luck at Frank Lake this year on the few times I have been there. Three White-faced Ibis and a juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron flew over, and I did see a Marsh Wren and a Yellow-headed Blackbird. I had driven there the previous day, too, and there was not much to see, though I was lucky to have a Western Grebe swim briefly near the blind. It was 34C (93.2F) at the lake that day!

From the blind, I drove all the way round the lake area, hoping to find a field or two of Canola. Afterwards, one of the further roads had me passing the tiny church at Dinton. I always stop and take a few photos.
