Some memories are too powerful to forget. No matter how much time & effort you put into burying them deep within your subconscious they somehow always find a way back to the forefront of your mind. My memories plague my dreams. I refuse to acknowledge them during my waking hours, but my control wanes when I sleep. In the comfort of my bed, laying next to my husband, I wrestle with the demons of my past. When I wake I feel tense and drained. I never talk about it. I never let on to anyone. I simply begin the process of pushing everything down again and move on.

For the group **Walk the Line**.

I got to visit the beautiful Spring Mountains National Recreation Area just 40 minutes outside Las Vegas, Nevada this past week. It was a short trip, one that involved the worst flight of my life (engine trouble forced us to fly below 10,000 feet the entire flight from SLC to Vegas), two hours of sleep, Ponderosa pines galore, lots of wildlife including two elk, Joshua trees, a squished rattlesnake, sunset, sunrise, getting stuck in Vegas traffic on a Friday afternoon, and making the flight home with less than five minutes to spare. It was a wild whirlwind of a trip, but the Spring Mountains were oh so gorgeous.

I took along a pack of ATZ Edge Cut and really loved the results. On some of the other photos I'll be posting soon, you can see a faint horizontal line through the center. One of the photos has streaks like regular ATZ film, and most of the shots are very very blue, like old school Time Zero. This is cool stuff. I can't wait to shoot another pack.

I often forget to remember what i love most.

...and posting photos in between sneezing and coughing. FLU (Feeling Little Unhealthy)! :)

The photo was taken in Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo.

The Great Mosque or Umayyad Mosque of Aleppo, was built on the site of a former Roman temple and Byzantine cathedral by St. Helen (mother of Constantine the Great) in 715. However, after numerous reconstructions little remains of the original structure, and what you see today dates mostly from the 12th century and later.

Thanks for your visit and have a HEALTHY day! (many days!)

“I discovered that what's really important for a creator isn't what we vaguely define as inspiration or even what it is we want to say, recall, regret, or rebel against.

No, what's important is the way we say it.

Art is all about craftsmanship.

Others can interpret craftsmanship as style if they wish.

Style is what unites memory or recollection, ideology, sentiment, nostalgia, presentiment, to the way we express all that.

It's not what we say but how we say it that matters.”

(Federico Fellini - Italian Film Director,1920-1993)

"The oldest living city in the world".

This a view of Varanasi (Benaras) taken from a boat along river Ganga during monsoon.

The majhi (hindi word for boatman) seems to be wrapped up in nostalgia like in the pictures of the 30's and the colours he wears contribute to this atmosphere.

While I am watching this image I can't help recalling so many things from my memory.

I don't think that anyone who comes here can forget Benaras, once you leave this city you keep on remembering....

“Maine was a United States Navy ship that sank in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898, contributing to the outbreak of the Spanish–American War in April. U.S. newspapers, engaging in yellow journalism to boost circulation, claimed that the Spanish were responsible for the ship's destruction. The phrase, "Remember the Maine! To hell with Spain!" became a rallying cry for action. Although the Maine explosion was not a direct cause, it served as a catalyst that accelerated the events leading up to the war.”

Every 11th November we remember the Fallen of the Two World Wars, as well as those that have given their lives in conflicts since. Please - Remember them.

This very beautiful lady hugged me and kissed my forehead when I took her photo. She also yelled "Thank You!" (yes, in English) when I grinned at her, saying: "The pleasure was all mine!"

My Second Mother's Day without her around ...

Happy Mother's Day Mama!

I Love You!

Each Eve of Mother's Day, I used to sneak out of the house and drive to the nearest grocery store before closing time. I'd buy her a card, balloons and a blooming azalea. I'd sign the card and leave all three on top of the dining table. So, when they got up Mother's Day morning, her presents were already waiting for her. Then we would go out for a brunch or dinner, whichever she preferred. My folks were retired school teachers so they have always been early risers even after retirement. I sure miss those days.

Remember the monsters that used to live under our beds?

When did you stop checking for them?

Was it when you grew up?

Or when you realized they were in your head?

I remember once getting "sea sick" when the whole ocean seemed to be undulating....this, of course, is a fantasy painting. I used the new blue Indanthrone that I got in the mail today from Daniel Smith.

I was taken to a show and got to shoot a few great bands, ADTR being one of them.

They put on a RIDICULOUS show, so I am stoked on some of the images I got. This is one of my favorites from the set.

ENJOY!

Until today, I had not seen Marietta in about a year and a half, but she told me she would have some free time over Thanksgiving and would be available for a photoshoot. We scheduled it for 9:30 this morning, but a communication error and an ensuing comedy of errors forced a delay of about four hours. But I didn't mind, as it was warmer by that time anyway; besides, I had been wanting to do another shoot with her ever since our last one, and I figured that if I could wait as long as I already had, an extra few hours wouldn't matter.

I came home with 171 new images of her, most of which she enthusiastically told me she liked. This one was among the last I took today, and it was just about worth the whole shoot all by itself. Marietta's magnificent but somewhat unruly tresses are an interesting subject in their own right, and I loved the way I captured them here. She was backlit (obviously), and I had her hold a small reflector off to camera right. This result already rivals the Mona Lisa as my favorite portrait of my friend, and this shoot proved to be well worth the wait, although I hope it won't be quite as long before I have my next one with her.
