Says its a Pacific Northwest style beach. I think they did a great job. It reminded me a little of Oceanside, Oregon.

Flickr edit only, no PS. I really did not intend for the black fade out edges, it was a glitch of the FLickr editing tools. I liked it, serendipitous accident.
Looking back is also a favorite form of reflection. So, today I find myself looking back to the fall when I may have missed a few moments to share with you. Here is one of them :) Still...I do love a good puddle to discover some life in :)

The Saint Lawrence River was partially frozen, but it made for a great reflection of downtown Montreal at night. It was great shooting with my friend and great photographer Nino.

The iconic lonely tree at Binalong Bay can be found in the part of Tasmania called the Bay of Fires and it was very high up on our list of places to visit. This year we have finally made it there and it was fantastic. We were enchanted by the beautiful coast lined up with massive granite boulders that have orange lichen growing on them, which gives the boulders their magnificent rich fiery colours.
Taken at sunrise down at the headland of Copacobana, Central Coast, NSW, Australia.
Was busy taking my 3 photos listening to Coast to Coast Am on my mp3 player when 3 surfers came up behind me. Scared the bergebus out of me. Was good timing as the light was the most sunbathed. I actually toned down the first results I was getting...believe it or not:p
I quickly changed my long exposure settings and took some shots of them heading out to the waves. I did get a shot with one of them standing on the rocks that I first started editing but for some reason I preferred how they were standing in this shot. Perhaps they stopped and admired the sail boat... what sail boat you ask...

Smithville Lake Sunset
Smithville, Missouri
Heard this song and it felt appropriate.
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after
Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said
Then you say, go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows
You're wondering if I'm okay
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
You said go slow
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting
Time after time

A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.

It's been more than three years that I've been at the magical Geroldsee in Bavaria. The last time I've been there it was at sunrise and it was probably one of the most amazing sunrises I ever witnessed. So I was a little bit reluctant to go there again since I felt that it would be hard to top that special morning three years ago.
However, there was one thing that always bugged me: I was so stunned by the sunrise that time that I somehow forgot to look for more interesting compositions. I entirely focused on the lake itself, its relfections and the Karwendel mountains in the back but neglected the landscape around it. So I planned that if I went there I again I wanted to shoot from the hills, capturing the landscape with its many hay huts in front of it. Last week while we were on vacation near Garmisch I had the chance to go there again and finally looked to capture this view.
We planned to go there for the evening light and sunset this time, however due to a traffic jam in Garmisch we arrived at the lake after the sun had already vanished behind the hills behind us. I was somewhat disappointed, since I hoped for an idyllic summer landscape nicely lit from behind. However, after about 15 more minutes suddenly the Karwendel mountains in the background lit up entirely. It was a spectacular Alpenglow that only lasted for a few minutes. Maybe it wasn't as amazing as that special morning three years ago but still it was a stunning and unexpected view. Finally, I had captured the photo I had been looking for almost three years.
If you keep walking past the spot where 99.9% of folks take a picture it gets a lot less busy and you get a very different perspective of the mountains and lake.

I made this image this evening in preparation for a water droplet refraction workshop tomorrow afternoon on the 25th. Using some fairly simple ingredients including a dandelion seed, spray bottle and Gerbera Daisy, something magical happens. You need to put the puzzle pieces together in the right way, and that’s what the workshop is designed around. You even get an essential piece of equipment to take home with you at the end of the workshop: a third hand tool. Very hard to do this kind of work without one!
This image was shot with an old (circa 1978) Canon 35mm F/2.8 macrophoto lens attached to an equally-vintage set of bellows adapted to my modern DSLR. The magnifications these old lenses can achieve is fantastic – this image isn’t cropped at all! Simple equipment can yield great results if you know how the puzzle pieces fit together.
I have boxes of various wildflower seeds that I collect in the fall and they really work well for refractions because they made tons of spherical water droplets. Bluegrass and eucalyptus also work well, so do spider webs and many other things!
Welcome to the world of abstract photography. It doesn’t really matter that it’s a Gerbera Daisy seen through a Dandelion seed, it’s an exploration of lines and shapes. If I used focus stacking techniques maybe you’d see more in of the droplets in focus, but for illustration purposes this is a single shot out of camera with editing to enhance contrast and colour.
Once you understand the fundamentals of the technique, you’re limited only by your creative ideas for how to apply it! I’ve got macro equipment, flashes, flashlights, etc. here in studio to help those that think they might be missing a key piece of gear. Even if you don’t have a macro lens I can show you how to make an image like this!
Ask anyone who has attended these workshops from me and they’ll say they had a great time and learned a lot! www.donkom.ca/product/macro-photography-workshops/
Shanghai skyline at night with a touch of Blade Runner mood to it and hence the title. I remember watching movies back in the eighties where various visions of the future were presented and the cities often looked dark, glowing and with strange futuristic architecture. In some ways that future is now. Looking at Shanghai city at might, I could not help but feel taken forward in time.
