Early autumn reflection at Enkhuizen, North-Holland.

The canals of Venice are so busy and congested that the gondoliers must exercise caution when approaching another canal. The crowds in this beautiful city can be overwhelming but here is a romantic and solitary moment.

I have to be completely honest that I have faked the relfection in the water. We waited for ages for the water to still be it didn't. So I have represented the shot as I would have liked it to be. Hopefully I will get the chance to go back one day and get it for real.

Lever de soleil sur la Plage du Kerou au Pouldu (Finistère) - Beach in Brittany (France) at sunrise.

Bow Lake is located on the Bow River, in the Canadian Rockies. Bow Lake was one of the stops during driving on the Icefields Parkway. It was a cloudy morning, I was amazed by the magnificent peaks and reflections on the lake. The view is stunning. Spending some time walking around the lake, the sceneries of Canadian Rockies are out of this world.

I went up to Papercourt Lock to catch the sunrise on one of the very few genuinely frosty mornings we have had in Surrey this winter. The sun lit up the lock keepers cottage and boats quite well.

This wonderful morning was just before last Christmas and the sun only rises in this place in December , worth getting up for! This will be my last reflection image for a while dont want you all to get fed up with this type of photo!

The top half is the original and the rest is obviously photoshopped but I feel that this is more the direction that I am heading for, making my photography more of an art form than just a straightforward image, some of you may not care for this type of vision but please let me know what you think?

There were quite a few shovelers in New Mexico. They are easy to recognize by their large shnoz. (1) Speaking of their shnoz, I found this on Wikipedia: "Northern shovelers feed by dabbling for plant food, often by swinging its bill from side to side and using the bill to strain food from the water. They use their highly specialized bill (from which their name is derived) to forage for aquatic invertebrates. Their wide-flat bill is equipped with well-developed lamellae – small, comb-like structures on the edge of the bill that act like sieves, allowing the birds to skim crustaceans and plankton from the water's surface. This adaptation, more specialized in shovelers, gives them an advantage over other puddle ducks, with which they do not have to compete for food resources during most of the year. Thus, mud-bottomed marshes rich in invertebrate life are their habitat of choice.[14]"

This is a pic of the more colorful male, or drake in duck talk, taking off in the early morning at Bosque del Apache, NM. (Anas clypeata)

(1) From the web: Why is a nose called a schnoz? The word schnozzle may come from an alteration of the Yiddish shnoitsl, a diminutive of shnoits, from the German Schnauze, meaning “snout.” Several other nose-related Yiddish words begin with schn or shn, including shnabl and shnuk, both meaning “beak,” and shnoyts, meaning “snout.”

My local newspaper has a contest where the most social popular photo wins. I dislike it, but it's how it goes around these days. Can you vote more 'independently', and vote for the best shot on their website? Thanks a lot. Btw, the price is actually a hot air balloon flight!
